  1. Review titled Great practice but 1 fly in the ointment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 June 2024

I've been with this practice nearly 40yrs. Moving so I could still stay with the practice. The receptionists throughout that time have always been incredible always keen to help even when I have been less than helpful due to mental health problems. But now??? A week ago my son called at lunchtime about seeing a Dr that day. He had a rash on his chest that felt like is chest was in fire. The receptionist managed to diagnose over the phone & told him to go to the nearest chemist and get some cream!? I had no idea reception staff had x-ray vision or even medical training. The pharmacist in Boots took one look and diagnosed stress induced shingles. Yes she gave him an antiviral 10 day course of tablets. Pharmacists really are our first port of call whilst waiting for Drs appt. I phoned the surgery yesterday and I would say I got the same receptionist judging by her attitude. She was very short with me and borderline patronising telling me he could only have a phone appt which would be very soon & if he didn't answer the phone straight away that would be it. Sure enough the Dr phoned but had no idea what help he needed. Advice I thought, getting his records updated as he will need sick note if the still do them and as it's spreading any other treatment. As he was woken by the phone he hadn't a clue what was going on. Wasted everyone's time. I do hope the Admin & Drs review the phone calls for training otherwise it seems pointless in recording them. Next time I'll record my conversations with them! Ok rant over.

  2. Review titled Refer to priory house

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Neil Martin - Posted on 24 March 2024

On Thursday morning I phoned up for an appointment to see a medical personnel. About my continual coughing I was 8th in the queue. I soon came no1. But I kept waiting for roughly 15mins. By the time you obviously ran out of appointments and refered to priory house. The gp was not a resperitry doctor as told by the receptionist. I therefore do not want to be referred to priory house not unless I am about 20th in the queue.

  4. Review titled Excellent administration

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Hart - Posted on 31 May 2023

The admin/reception staff at Church Avenue are absolutely top-class. They are clearly extremely expert in managing the flow of requests efficiently and economically opposite the medical resources available within the Practice. Their judgement as to whether a GP call or immediate visit is required is very accurate; their response to my latest request (for 31st May but also over recent years) has been very impressive and I am grateful for their efforts. When I compare this experience with some of the stories one hears around the country, it is evident that Church Avenue is a very well-run practice with an experienced and highly professional team.
