Trying to see anyone in this GP or even have someone call me back is a joke. This isn't the first time I've experienced this with this GP. The latest one, I was told I needed to take a blood test and that if I get a call from them, it means that they've found something in my blood test. I received a call about it, so I assume that they've found something as they said they needed to speak to me in person to discuss it - except they didn't give me a slot immediately. I was asked to call back on a special number that skips the waiting list to try to get a slot. I called from 8am sharp and there were already no slots left. Called a different number that goes through their reception to explain the situation but all I was told is "call back tomorrow". I don't understand why they can't tell me when I can see them so they can discuss what they've found in my blood test instead of trying to get a slot that's non-existent even within the timeframe of 8am - 8:10am. Terrible!

Since the commencement of the pandemic in 2020 we have seen incoming telephone calls into the practice rise by 97%. Between October to December 2019 the practice was averaging 5457 incoming telephone calls per month. In the same period of time in 2022 the practice is now averaging 10,764 incoming telephone calls per month. We have employed more reception hours, had 3 additional telephone lines fitted and the automated booking system but with no extra financial help available to us we are restricted in what else we can do to increase capacity. We are also experiencing similar issues with GP and Nurse appointment availability. At the height of the pandemic between October and December 2020 we offered a total of 11,341 appointments. At this point in time we had 5 GP Partners working 16 days a week between them. For the same period so far this year we have offered 12,410 appointments an additional 1069 appointments, but only have the equivalent to 11.5 GP days per week and are down 35 hours per week practice nursing time. We have been recruiting for 12 months with no success due to the national shortage of clinically trained staff. We fully understand that it is sometimes difficult to get an appointment, and this is very frustrating for our patients and the practice. We hope the figures above show you that we are working harder than ever and trying our best with the limited resources we have available to us but throughout the whole NHS demand at present is outstripping supply and unfortunately we are no exception . If you would like to discuss this further please contact the management team. Sharon Atherton Practice Manager
