  1. Review titled Waste of time

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Andrew McLaren - Posted on 09 February 2024

Practice is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. 1 month to get an appointment to see a doctor, want one now, when I am ill. Myself and my wife were new patients in October last year, supposed to get a new patient consult with a doctor, still waiting! Spoke to a doctor on the phone, none of our details had been put into the computer system after 2 months. Reception staff seem to be less than friendly and incompetent. Maybe we should all book appointments in advance in case we are ill!!!!

  2. Review titled Difficult to get appointments

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Getting an appointment - Posted on 27 December 2023

I waited for 15 minutes in driving rain with 14 others to get an appointment having failed in the previous 3 weeks. The surgery texted me asking me to make an appointment. Why could they not have sent me an appointment in that text?

  3. Review titled Not fit for purpose

Rated 1 star out of 5

This practice does not meet the needs of patients. It is almost impossible to see someone, talk to someone or get an appointment or advice on current medication. When someone is poorly, in pain and can't see a doctor, it's no longer a system fit for purpose.

  4. Review titled Unbelievable

Rated 1 star out of 5

Trying to make appt for blood test. Not possible last week as waiting for list from nurses. This morning told nothing before christmas but try every day in case there's a cancellation. This is standard reply for everything. Perhaps a little joined up thinking wouldn't go amiss. Remember how doctors surgeries used to work (and much more efficiently). It also meant less calls and visits and also less frustration for patients.

Dear Patient Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on the issues that you have faced when making a blood test appointment. I want to confirm that we have changed our Nurse rota's at the beginning of this year following similar patient feedback to yourself. There is now capacity within the clinical rota to ensure appointments are released every day to ensure we have availability within 2 weeks for more urgent appointment requests. We also review things weekly to review if we need to add any additional clinics due to staffing or demand. We also provide extended access clinics on an evening and Saturdays to offer a wider range of times for blood tests. I hope this reassures you that you will not encounter this problem in the future. Kind regards Rebecca Curtis Practice Lead Coquet Medical Group

  5. Review titled So disappointed

Rated 1 star out of 5

This practice no longer give the duty of care it should , in my personal opinion all they care about is dealing with covid injections! You can’t get in on time for anything else ! Yes covid is still around and still effecting people , but what about long term illness that are equally dangerous if not looked after , they are not taken as seriously , the care side of the practice is practically 0

Dear Patient Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback to the Practice. We would like to reassure you that Coquet Medical Group is committed to providing the highest possible standards of care to all of our patients. We do recognise that things can go wrong and will always take patient comments on board to improve our service. Vaccination Programmes in the Winter Months (including COVID and Influenza) do have to be completed alongside our usual workloads at this time of year but we try to still keep a balance of routine appointments. We have had some problems with staff absence over the previous weeks and we have put on additional routine clinics on to help with the demand for appointments where possible. We are currently reviewing our Nursing Team rotas and our Long Term Condition Recall system to help create a better patient experience. I will pass your comments along to our GP Partners and Nursing Team leading on these projects. Kind regards Mrs Rebecca Curtis Acting Practice Manager

  6. Review titled Disappointing!!

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I believe that the surgery is not operating a safe practice anymore. My Annual diabetic review was downgraded to a Health Care Assistant when it used to be a senior diabetic Nurse. They just follow a set list of questions but they are not experienced in seeing possible danger signs. The only Doctors I have seen at the practice are trainee GPs and I have not seen one of the experienced GPs since I first registered with the Practice nearly 5 years ago. Whilst I have no complaints about the staff themselves it is the lack of experience that worries me. I was referred to the Falls Clinic at Wansbeck and they immediately identified one of the medications that could be causing some of my problems which I feel could have been picked up by a senior Dr at the practice. They are aware that I have recently been diagnosed with Non Alcoholic Cirrhosis of the liver and the consultant advised me to lose weight which I am trying hard to do but I believe the Practice should have been monitoring this and realising that losing weight was affecting my medication. To top it all the blood test I had recently at my long term review was not sent off ( no idea why) and it is only by checking my records on the internet that I chased this as no results were showing. At no time did anyone contact me to advise me and it was only after the 3rd intervention by myself that it was finally admitted that the bloods had not been sent off and I had to have some more and even then there was a 3 week wait for an appointment.

Dear Patient Thank you for letting me know that you are dissatisfied with the care and treatment you have received from our Practice. We would like to reassure you that Coquet Medical Group is committed to providing the highest possible standards of care to all of our patients. We do, however, appreciate that unfortunately at times things can go wrong and recognise that concerns and complaints provide a unique opportunity for us to view our services from the patient’s perspective. Coquet Medical Group is passionate about ensuring that all concerns are investigated thoroughly and used positively to improve the services that we provide. Our current Long Term Condition Process is that your initial appointment is with one of our Health Centre Assistants to do all your observations and blood tests. The results are then reviewed by a Qualified Practice Nurse who recommends any further appointments or actions. Following that a Medication Review is completed by one of our Practice Pharmacists. We are currently reviewing this system so i will pass on your comments to the Nursing Team to raise at the review. With regards to not seeing a qualified GP at the Practice we are a training Practice and pride ourselves in this. Many of our Trainee GPs who have completed training with us have stayed to work at our practice long term or have actually returned to the Practice as GP Partners - such as Dr Katherine Carman. We currently have 8 permanent qualified GPs at the practice and 4 trainees along side many more clinical and non-clinical staff to support our GP. This also includes physiotherapists, mental health workers and pharmacists. If you would like me to investigate your concerns please get in touch with me directly at the Practice. Kind regards Mrs Rebecca Curtis Acting Practice Manager

  7. Review titled Frustrating system

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Very frustrating when you try to keep on top of your health problems , appointments are like gold dust & talking to a doctor not much better , if it was possible to find another practice near by then I would change . It feels as though no one cares anymore , whatever happened to the system it’s not working

We do, however, appreciate that unfortunately at times things can go wrong and recognise that concerns and complaints provide a unique opportunity for us to view our services from the patient’s perspective. We have had problems with access and appointment capacity throughout the Summer months due to planned and unplanned absences within our Practice Staff both clinical and non-clinical. We are reviewing staffing levels into the Summer months to try and prevent this going forwards. I hope that you can see some of the positive changes that we are making. 8. Review titled Same problems as others

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 March 2023

Same problems as others have. You phone the health center to be such a number in a very long queue. The music is very annoying and then you have to hear a spoken message about phoning the health center. To be in a queue for anything to do with a health condition is ridiculous. You wait that long for either someone to put the phone down or you get a person go on about how short staffed they are again. That health center is way too small for all the people in amble. Waiting times are diabolical. Why some local people in the town praise them up is beyond me. They have a job to do so they should get on and do it and stop with excuses.

Dear Patient Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. My sincerest apologies for the delay in responding to your comments. Please note that since March we have already made some significant changes to improve our service following feedback like yours. We have audited and reviewed our telephone system with our telephony provider. We have amended our appointments system and are constantly reviewing things to make further improvements to our access. We have provided a lot of staff training such as Care Navigation training to our Reception Team. We still face many problems and we know we still have room for improvements to be made. Planned and unplanned leave affected our staffing levels which we are closely monitoring. We have secured some GP Locum shifts to help with appointment capacity in the coming months. I hope that you have seen some improvements to the Practice since earlier in the year and will continue to see improvements. Kind regards Mrs Rebecca Curtis Acting Practice Manager

  9. Review titled Repeat prescription issues

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 March 2024

every time i have a review in order to set up a further 6 month repeat prescription there are continual issues which have resulted in some cases repeated phone calls and visits to the surgery to get the problem fixed. this is very frustrating not to say time consuming.

Dear Patient Thank you for submitting your feedback regarding Coquet Medical Group and detailing the issues you have had regarding your ordering of prescriptions and medication reviews. We are now under new management at the Practice with Northumbria Primary Care and have since changed our internal pharmacy service provider. We continually review the services that we provide to ensure high quality care and use patient feedback to ensure that we direct our efforts to the things that will make the biggest impact and improvement to our patients. Our new practice Pharmacist and Lead Prescribing GP have put a new system in place since June 2024 to ensure that patients get their medications sorted upon their first contact with the practice and within 3 working days. I hope that you will find the new system much more efficient. Kind regards Rebecca Curtis Practice Lead Coquet Medical Group

  10. Review titled GP Telephone Service Issues

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 February 2023

I rang at 8am this morning (09/02/23) starting as caller number 26, waited patiently for my turn, listening to the music & advice. I became caller number 1 at 8.18am at which point the phone rang, and rang, and rang for over 5 minutes until I ended up putting the phone down. I immediately rang back, was caller number 13, waited patiently again until I hecame caller number 1 at 08.40am, and exactly the same thing happened. I dialled off, very frustrated. There must be an issue with the system. I appreciate how busy the surgery is, but when this happens and it's not the first time, then there is something wrong. Please review the workings of the telephone system. It needs to work for everyone, particularly if you work and are only able to make calls intermittently throughout the day if you haven't been successful getting through from 8am.

I hope i can re-assure you in the fact that we have made significant changes to our access and appointments system since earlier this year. We have also worked very closely with our telephony provider to highlight issues that patients were having and provided reception training on the system to make significant improvements.
