  1. Review titled Excellent Joined-up NHS

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Stapleton - Posted on 28 October 2024

I had been experiencing a loud whistling noise in my NHS hearing aids, following a visit last Monday to the Audiology Department at Addenbrooke's Hospital, I was told that I needed to have a build-up of excess wax removed from my ears. Using the online consultation system, I was able to arrange to get an appointment on Thursday (three days later) to have the wax removed. On Friday morning, I telephoned the Audiology Department and was able to get a cancelled appointment at 16.30 the same afternoon to have moulds made for a pair of new domes for my NHS hearing aids. (Five days after my initial appointment) My very recent experience demonstrates that the NHS is not broken, as claimed by the Health Minister. I find that It is working very well especially if we as patients play our part. My grateful thanks to all the hardworking and dedicated NHS staff of Crocus Medical Practice and Addenbrooke's Audiology Department.

  2. Review titled Econsult time available

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 September 2024

The website says econsult available all day from 8am. Just tried at 1.30 and not accepting until after 2.00. Why can you not just put one in the system when it is convenient to the patient. Very frustrating.

  3. Review titled Makes you feel unsafe

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 September 2024

Every time I call, I’m put in a queue that never ends From reception I was referred to an e-Consult to make an appointment. It’s essentially a google search for self-assessment which when it concludes you need an appointment should send you a health report with a reference number. In my case it did conclude I need an appointment, but there was no report, no reference, no option to then book an appointment. Taking me back to the phone - which never gets through. Today (which was my first time after registering), I had a general check appointment arranged by NHS (possible only since it was started by them) for cholesterol and diabetes. Once I left the practice, I got a text that they want me to check my blood pressure over the next 7 days. a) the text came in 10 minutes after I had left, surely this could’ve been communicated while I was there. b) how am I expected to measure it? What tools am I expected to have. You can’t read your blood pressure off a coffee. As mentioned- it was my first time using their services (I’ve tried to book prior but have never succeeded) and the whole experience left me feel unsafe. I’m in the middle of transition to another, yes more distant, but reliable practice who helps when I am at my most vulnerable and need them.

  4. Review titled Exemplary service received by a new patient!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 29 August 2024

This morning I had a new patient Health check which revealed I hadn't had a breast screening since January 2019 despite this should be done every 3 years. Also during a gp telephone consult this afternoon an important medication change was implemented today. All this since moving to the area and registering this month. The care and service received from all areas of this practice from helpful receptionists through to nurses and speaking to a gp today too is a breath of fresh air. I have every faith in their staff and am extremely grateful for the care I have received. I have no hesitation in recommending Crocus to anyone seeking a professional and caring gp surgery.

  5. Review titled Wonderful care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Beverly Bernhardt - Posted on 27 June 2024

Firstly, my partner and I feel the new e-consult form is working really well. It has freed up staff to direct patients to the best doctor or services. I am so happy that I can send a query at any time during the day. Such a relief! The old telephone service and the e-form were frustrating. Whereas, now on the rare occasion when I need to call I get through quickly. I have also been pleasantly surprised by how quickly I received a response on the same day and an appointment or appropriate help either the same day or within a couple of days. I feel strongly about the care that I have received and decided I wished to put this in writing. I know we are not to put names on here, but I have seen 4 doctors at the practice recently. All have been thorough. Two of the doctors in particular I felt went the 'extra mile'. I have confidence in them and trust their care. As we age and are more in need of care, I feel we must also take responsibility for our own health, but I am grateful that should I need assistance - I am with a practice that will do their utmost to look after me. With gratitude.

  6. Review titled Poor culture

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 February 2024

I was shocked to see the lack of focus on patient needs. I waited outside with a chest infection for half an hour at 7.30 am as this is the only way to get an appointment. When I got in there were no tissues available despite the fact I was clearly an infection risk. There was also no water available. At least half a dozen staff strolled up and down the corridor clutching coffee mugs and actually doing very little. 2 members of staff were answering phone lines and I wondered why the half dozen breezing doing nothing were not handling the dozens of desperate people at the other end of the line. I sat in the waiting room with one other person; there was plenty of room for the countless other people who needed help. There was absolutely nothing available for ill or anxious children to play with. I had obtained the first appointment with a doctor after being insistent. I had previously been prescribed the wrong medication by an inadequately trained practitioner. The doctor saw me ten minutes after my appointment was due despite my being first. None of the staff strolling about doing nothing noticed me coughing all over the waiting room. The doctor prescribed me antibiotics but told me only to take them if I really needed it as this would affect the practice's figures. This left me totally unclear as to what to do for the best for my health. I remain unwell, confused and amazed that such service is acceptable in the medical world; in education thorough inspection ensures that all this sort of nonsense does not happen. Patients first- that's what we pay our taxes for.

  7. Review titled Excellent service again

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Suzanne Keel - Posted on 15 January 2024

I have heard and seen some bad reviews of our local practice. I have to say I have always had excellent service from both branches of this practice and today was no different. I completed an online consultation form, submitted it and within 10 minutes my phone rang and a very nice lady invited me in that day to be assessed having reviewed my symptoms. I attended the Gt Chesterford practice and saw the Practice Nurse - she was superb - caring, professional and thorough, I felt thoroughly cared for and after a full examination she called in a doctor for a second opinion and thirty minutes later I had collected my prescription. The NHS is under great pressure and bad reviews must be so demoralising. I hope the staff see this review, from the online consultation review staff to receptionists, nurses and doctors and in doing so I hope they know there are so many of us that see the excellent staff working in a system that has been stretched and underfunded for decades, we appreciate you, thank you so much for such a good experience and for all you do.

  8. Review titled Very worrying medical practice .Raising of serious concerns

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 January 2024

This medical practice should be put into urgent special measures on health and safety grounds. Some of the Receptionist staff are polite but others are often very abrupt, bad tempered , do not answer the phone even when You are number 1 in the queue. On one occasion I was number 1 in the queue for 40 minutes last summer until the phone cut off. On another occasion 2 of the Reception Team have been very insolent in their response even when they are being politely spoken to . I have also been point blank lied to on several occasions in the past and told a member of the practice would call me back and they did not . On other occasions no Doctor has been at the practice to work and see patients. This is frankly very worrying. On another occasion I was clearly told a paramedic was as well qualified as a Doctor and as well medically trained as any GP Doctor when they had no Doctors on duty . Getting an appointment has on many occasions been nearly impossible. I was very unwell several weeks ago. It turned out I had Pneumonia which could have been life threatening. I had been fobbed off twice by some of the reception team prior to eventually getting an appointment one even telling me I probably just had a cold . On another occasion a relative had an Appointment booked only to have it cancelled on the day as the Ecg machine was broken. Furthermore There was no Sense of urgency to rebook an appointment by the receptionist team. All I can say is this practice needs serious investigation. We all know the NHS is under pressure but the very serious concerns I am raising here about This medical practice needs full thorough investigation. I am very well educated and have worked and travelled to more than 40 countries. All I can say is I have had much better treatment from developing country medical centres when engaged in the past on Charity projects in South America, Africa , Asia and Eastern Europe . I Please ask that this Crocus Medical practice on health and safety grounds is please urgently investigated because standards and patient treatment from what I have observed and my own health / wellbeing is beyond worrying.

  9. Review titled Fantastic support and treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Hook - Posted on 20 December 2023

I was recently seen by a doctor at the surgery. This doctor was patient, thorough and professional. He listened to what I had to say without rushing me and did everything within his power to assist and treat me. It was one of the best doctor/patient experiences. Secondly, I also experienced incredible support from the practice Pharmacist, who was also kind, caring and very supportive. They also rang me when they said yhey would. Lastly, I also recieved amazing help from one of the nurses at the Crocus, this individual also went above and beyond to help me with a particular issue. In short, my experience with the Crocus Medical Practice has been first class.

  10. Review titled Going round in circles

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 November 2023

I tried to book an appointment with eConsult. I filled out the form, but was told my condition could be urgent and was told to contact the practice direct. I rang the number and hung on, only to be told that there were no appointments. The receptionist told me to try again, but there was no point because I would be told to contact direct. The receptionist then told me not to fill in my serious details on the form (despite eConsult telling me not to lie) and then there would be a possibility of a phone consultation (I know I need a face-to-face appointment). The eConsult system had closed by 9am, so I couldn't even try again. I am doing everything I can to self-manage, but my condition is getting worse and I know I need a face-to-face examination. Unfortunately, it seems absolutely impossible to get one and I'm just going round and round trying to get one. It's a shambles!
