  1. Review titled Disability Positive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Becky Virgo - Posted on 04 November 2024

After talking to a pleasant receptionist I have just got my next GP appointment 27th November. After several really awful experiences with local practices (and I mean awful), I have been so impressed by the compassion and timeliness I’ve experienced here. People answer the phone (everywhere has a morning rush - I get an appointment when I’m determined, and I’m determined when I need it). The staff have always been kind and patient, the GPs thorough. No, it’s not perfect, but it’s as good as the NHS get. I have complex issues and chronic disabilities - so I know what’s it’s like to be written off - and not here!

  2. Review titled Pleasant and efficient

I rang at 8.15 and was told that I was 13th in the queue. I spoke to the receptionist surprisingly quickly and was given an appointment at 10.30 as a follow-up to an ear problem I’d been treated for the previous week. I was seen punctually and was very satisfied with the the treatment by the doctor. This was typical of what I have experienced since joining the practice 5/6 years ago.

  3. Review titled Attitude

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Sid - Posted on 02 April 2024

I visited the practice in March 2024, after explaining why I attended the practice, the GP's response was "Not my problem" a few moments later they then said "You do realise the NHS is in crisis?" Not only was I treated like a child but also as though I am a time waster with no intelligence. Absolutely disgraceful attitude and response. I have a genuine reason / medical issue that needs addressing. Very poor

  4. Review titled Ignoring patients

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 February 2024

I phoned Crookes go practice yesterday. No one answered the phone, even though I was the first person in the queue. On two occasions I was given a choice of a callback option. With this option they will try to ring you once then you have missed your chance. The phone was finally answered after a wait of fifteen minutes, as I stated earlier I was first in the queue. I was told that they were very busy. Shortly after the call I walked past the surgery and to my surprise, or not really, there was no one in the surgery waiting room. I can only presume that the callback feature just enables the staff to ignore customers and not do their job properly. They need to remember that the government is paying them lot of money to look after patients. This practice until recently was superb, now it is dreadful.

Dear Patient Thank you for your comments regarding your recent experience contacting the surgery via telephone which I will investigate. Please be aware that patients are being seen in the surgery and clinic times may differ throughout the day. There was a city-wide training event on the date you passed the surgery so we were closed from lunchtime. If you wish to discuss this further please email the practice SHECCG.TheCrookesPractice@nhs.net for my attention and I will contact you direct. Thank you Amanda Hobson Practice Manager

  5. Review titled Excellent GP practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Jean S - Posted on 14 January 2024

Very knowledgeable ,supportive and compassionate GPs and nurses ; and helpful , friendly ,efficient reception staff. I have had excellent care over many years at The Crookes Practice especially with asthma , work related stress , the menopause and particularly so , now that I have breast cancer . I appreciate the patience and empathy shown towards me during each consultation and the willingness of staff to clearly explain treatments and medication to me . Anytime I experience problems with my health I am confident that I will be sensitively listened to and I can relax in the knowledge that staff have excellent up-to-date knowledge and skills to help me . I highly recommend this excellent group of caring staff and am extremely grateful for the professional healthcare that I continue to receive . Thank you so much !!

  6. Review titled Very disappointing

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 January 2024

Upon leaving my appointment at the Crookes Practice two days ago, I was given the standard 'give it two weeks and come back if it hasn't improved' and sent away. When I called back for a second opinion yesterday, although I was initially given an appointment, I was called back half an hour later to say that the doctor in charge that day had cancelled it, and that I should refer to the advice given (e.g. the two weeks wait). As the suspected condition (as flagged up by a GP from another surgery three days ago when I was seen at the GP consortium site as there were no appointments available at Crookes) is a serious one (risk of blindness and stroke) and entailed me going for urgent blood tests, this has left me in a state of uncertainty and worry. The reason I asked for the second opinion is that the GP I saw at Crookes displayed a worrying lack of knowledge about the condition (for example, categorically stating, and repeating, that a diagnostic symptom present in 50% of cases is not typical) and this shook my confidence in their judgement. To be given a appointment for a second opinion was surely not an unreasonable request, especially for a patient in a great deal of pain, and it might have restored my confidence in the practice. I am not a frequent visitor to the surgery, so cannot be seen as a major drain on their resources -- yet that is how I and my family are consistently made to feel. A vulnerable family member who plucked up the courage to attend the surgery recently was so discouraged that they cannot bring themselves to go back. I changed practice yesterday (after almost 20 years at Crookes). I feel relieved that I have finally decided to leave this practice, something I probably should have some time ago.

  7. Review titled Above and beyond

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My husband and I have had 18 months of life changing illness. The Doctors and staff have been unwavering in their support. They have supported us, while we have waited for elusive hospital appointments and their support has kept us going through terrible times. The receptionists are always kind and helpful, as a first point of contact this is invaluable.Knowing we have access to such professional and compassionate people will make the journeys we have to face easier. In a time when the NHS is under such pressure, this practice does not allow that to effect the care they deliver. Thank you.

  10. Review titled Poor service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 February 2023

I have had problems getting repeat prescriptions for medication. I have had a medication review and still cannot order the medication I need. I have sent requests for missing items to be issued without success and am missing out on medicines that are supposed to keep my health conditions stable. On a monthly basis, I have to go to pharmacy, find out what is missing then go to reception and ask for items to get prescribed. Then I wait several more days to go to chemist and hope they have a prescription for what I need. This is time consuming, stressful and frustrating. This is not joined up care and very inefficient.
