The practice website advertises an online booking system, but this will not accept bookings requests. I therefore attended the practice reception in person. I was informed that even a straightforward request would need an appointment with a doctor, which could only be arranged by phoning the practice at 8 am. This seems wholly impractical, since, according to the receptionist, the identical advice is given to everybody.

Dear Patient, It is not necessary to see a GP to request access to the online booking system, we can only assume that there has been some misunderstanding and mis-communication regarding online access. I phoned the surgery as I had found a lump and was offered an appointment with a nurse practitioner that same day. She examined me and made an urgent referral to get this looked at. However, she could obviously tell that there was other things going on and as I got up to leave she asked me ‘are you okay?’ And when I said ‘yes’ she said ‘no really, are you okay?’ I then told her some of the additional, significant stress that I was experiencing at the time. She talked to me about different ways I could be supported and I agreed for a referral to be made to social prescribing. I am very thankful to this nurse who made the effort to find out I really was. She helped me a great deal and I am a lot better for her intervention.
