  2. Review titled Feel like they don’t listen.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by David - Posted on 23 September 2024

Finally got a face to face appointment today, feel like I would have had better luck talking to a brick wall. Its almost as though they (doctor in question) takes nothing that you say seriously. All I want to do is to be able to go to work and do my job without being in pain, all the doctor wants me to do is see physio and tell me that nothing could of changed on my shoulder scan since I had it in November even though I said numerous times this is not the same pain. Just feel extremely let down, only hope is to try and book another appointment and hope I don’t get the same doctor.

  3. Review titled Unpleasant & unhelpful staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Irene Bendler - Posted on 09 July 2024

My smear test is due. After being on hold for 30min, I was told that I can have an appointment 8am next day but if not willing to take that, the only other option is to come to a drop in mid August. There are no other appointments available! When I asked for the Sexual Health Clinic, she told me I can google that as she has not contact information! Very unhelpful and very unpleasant treatment over the phone.

Dear Irene Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on NHS Choices, any feedback can be addressed and improved on. As per our conversation this afternoon, I apologise for any unacceptable treatment or service provided by the staff at the surgery and assure you feedback will be provided. Having listened to the call, an appointment was offered for this morning at 8 a.m. for a smear and also the drop in centre on 10 August, which I note you have now decided to attend. I acknowledge the staff member could have provided the Sexual Health Clinic telephone number however this is a new service so I will ensure the reception staff have the new contact number to hand. Again, thank you for your feedback and my apologies you have feel you had a sub standard service. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  4. Review titled Trying to see a doctor

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Mrs d foy - Posted on 10 January 2024

I’ve been with this surgery my whole life(52yrs)and now I feel I no longer have a doctor to go to. The phones are not answered- they say we are busy ring back later. If you finally manage to get in the queue after waiting 45 minutes to an hour you are told there are no appointments and to try your luck tomorrow or in my case very ill with a chest infection and also asthmatic they told me to ring 111 on speaking to 111 they said to phone my doctor back as they cannot help me if my doctors is open. I did an e consultation as I was desperate- I just needed someone to help me- but they messaged me back saying I was too ill and needed to see a doctor and to phone the surgery again. I phoned the surgery again- third time lucky- but alas I was told to phone again tomorrow despite pleading with them. They said I should go to a walking clinic. So I feel like I no longer have a doctors as they just don’t see anyone anymore. Also I have asthma and have not seen an asthma nurse in 4 yrs-apparently they can assess how I’m doing over the phone and no longer need to see you to check your breathing etc.

Dear Mrs Foy Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments on NHS Choices, we welcome all feedback for the surgery. I understand that in my absence you have spoken with the Assistant Practice Manager and she has explained and resolved your concerns. May I add my apologies for the frustration and upset getting through to the surgery has caused, we are doing our utmost to meet exceptional demand however it remains currently very high. I can confirm we have recruited 4 GPs and an Advanced Nurse Practitioner which will hopefully ease the situation. Once again, thank you for your feedback, it is appreciated. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  5. Review titled Wasting time chasing referrals

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Steven Chowney - Posted on 12 September 2023

After being referred by my doctor for a drop-in chest x-ray, I visited the clinic 12 days after my appointment only to discover the referral had not been sent. Assuming the problem could be simply resolved, I rang the GP from the waiting room. However, I was told I had to call back in a couple more days to chase it up again. If my doctor had said "wait two weeks, then ring us to make sure it's gone through" I would have thought that was odd. To have to do that without being told first is absurd. This can't possibly be how the system is supposed to work. What's going on?

Dear Mr Chowney Further to our conversation yesterday, please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. I can see from the system that an error was made and from listening to the call that you were provided with incorrect information by a less experienced member of the reception team. As discussed, we have now rectified this for you and feedback has been provided. Thank you for your understanding. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  6. Review titled Shocking state of NHS/very ill but can't get appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 August 2023

I feel ill with heart problems which I had before and managed to get an appointment in 5 weeks! I was given the option to go to a walk in center at the other side of Leeds or call every morning at 8am. If I am lucky and I get through before all appointments are gone, I can get one on the day. I have no energy and can't talk properly, but the woman accused me of shouting at her! I ended up cryinging. Very unfriendly and not helpful staff.

Dear Patient Please accept my apologies that you have had problems obtaining an appointment. I would be happy to discuss this with you in person or over the telephone. Our GP appointments go on the system generally 4 weeks in advance and we have routine appointments to book 2 weeks in advance up to a few days in advance, so I am unsure why you would be offered an appointment 5 weeks in advance unless it was for a blood test or some long term condition appointments with a nurse or Health Care Assistant. Our reception staff will ask questions to establish the best clinician or practitioner suited to your condition, such as a pharmacist, physio or social prescriber. If a GP appointment is required the staff will offer the advice of calling NHS 111 or visiting a walk in centre as a further form of support if we are full. Our demand is exceptionally high and we do our best on a daily basis to meet that demand however we are unable to offer unlimited appointments as this would be unsafe. I am sorry you didn't feel the staff were helpful and that they were unfriendly that is certainly not our intention. If I can be of further assistance, please do get in touch. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  7. Review titled Poor Appointment System!

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 July 2023

I waited for over half an hour on the phone to eventually talk to the person at the other end who told me there are no other appointments and I should seek a walk in centre! Other times I have waited with the call count down, for the line to go dead when its my turn. Not impressed at all!

Dear Patient I have responded to this review previously, unsure why this is not showing on the system. Please accept my apologies for the problems encountered getting through to the surgery. Demand is exceptionally high and the reception staff answer the calls as efficiently as possible without rushing patient's who may need extra time or support. The telephone system can hold a set number of patients in the queue however for volumes above 60 in the queue it will cut off patients and ask to phone back later. I am sorry that the line went dead before your turn, I am unsure why this would happen however I can assure you that reception staff do not cut off patients. If you wish to discuss, please feel free to contact the surgery and I would be happy to do so. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  8. Review titled Poor service

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Frederick - Posted on 13 April 2023

Attended for annual blood tests. received message from surgery withing 8 hours stating "Results received, contact surgery". When I rung the surgery was told I needed to make an appontment with GP to discuss results. Why? Could someone with medical training not ring patient if results were abnormal, this would stop patient worrying about the result. Was initially offered appointment with GP in two weeks. Declined. Contacted practise manager only to be told they could make GP appointment in 5 days. Declined this offer also. Not a very efficient system.

Dear Frederick I have previously responded to this review on more than one occasion so unsure why it is not showing as a response has been received. Please accept my apologies that you are unhappy with the service provided by the practice. The GP will ask for an urgent appointment to be made if the results are of an urgent nature, this was not the case on this occasion and therefore two appointments were offered and both refused. I am sorry the appointments were not deemed suitable, demand is exceptionally high and we are doing our best on a daily basis to meet demand. I believe you spoke to the assistant practice manager, therefore if you wish to discuss in person with me, I would be happy to do so. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  9. Review titled Swift Professional Decision & Excellent Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pearl Davison - Posted on 15 February 2023

I visited the surgery at 5pm yesterday and was seen by one of the doctors who was very professional knowledgeable & followed up a concern with ENT (ears, nose, throat) promptly to get me an appointment that day. I was admitted to ENT at 6.30pm and by midnight I had been discharged from their clinic with treatment for infection & a quinsy (which the doctor thought it was!) The doctor gave me a letter to take which was helpful for the assessing team. Without that prompt response, I would have got worse and the condition could be life threatening if left untreated so just wanted to say thank you. The swift prompt care with the urgency it required meant I didn't need to wait long hours in A&E, in pain. It has made me appreciate the NHS and how lucky we are to have an amazing GP surgery here in Armley.
