  1. Review titled Poor Service - Lacking Compassion

Rated 3 stars out of 5

    by K Boon - Posted on 05 March 2025

Due to unforeseen traffic conditions I was late for my appointment with the nurse for a very important blood test. I was 20 minutes late. The receptionist spoke to the nurse at 9:05/9:10 and the nurse catagorically refused to see me and said she was far too busy, this takes all of 5 minutes. I was in traffic for over an hour and this was unavoidable as the town was highly congested, making it impossible to get there. Historically I have never missed or been late and take the first appointment of the morning, and have never been seen on time often 15-20 mins beyond appointment time. I have not been able to reschedule this appointment as I have to make the lost time of 1 hour and 45 minutes up at work, surely some concession must be made for people who are genuinely not well and urgently need this appmt, this has now set me back because I will have to wait for a suitable time with my employer. Some consideration is needed and compassion for patients and their wellbeing. Something I don’t seem to be experiencing at the moment at Orchard St. with the exception of your lovely receptionists who were kind and understanding.

Dear K Boon We are most concerned that you felt that you needed to complain and that the practice offered poor service and lacked compassion when you arrived late for an appointment due to traffic issues in and around the town. I understand from the record that you did indeed have a early morning appointment although not the first of the day and that you were late due to traffic congestion as were the other patients before you, which meant everyone was running late. I am also assured that despite your comments consideration and compassion were given to you when the receptionist offered you the next available appointment which was approximately 40 minutes after you arrived, which you declined. You were also offered an alternative appointment the following day which you also declined. I am sorry that you felt no concession was given to you for being late and other than give you someone elses appointment slot, which we would not do, I am not sure what else we could have done. We try very hard to accommodate patients which I believe we did in this instance sadly not to your satisfaction. The HCA was more than happy to see you at a later time, having already a number of patients who were waiting for their appointment.

  2. Review titled Lack of communication, lack of respect for patients

Rated 1 star out of 5

On Tuesday 17/10 I went in the surgery because my blood pressure was 180/100 I had an appointment with a doctor at 3 p.m , in the surgery my blood pressure was almost 200/120, I was prescribed a new medication and I was told to come back in the next morning for an appointment with another doctor, in the second day when I attended my blood pressure was the same, they increased my medication and made another appointment appointment for 20 of October. On 20 of October the doctor took blood tests, my blood pressure was 170/100 and I was told by the doctor to monitor my blood pressure and to bring it in the surgery after 5 days. I told my doctor that I am working and I need a fit note because I was told that might take 2 weeks for my blood pressure to settle, the doctor told me that if I feel that I need a fit note he will issue one in the next Monday because he cannot give me for the first seven days. Monday ( on 23rd of October I didn't receive nothing, in the next I called the surgery an I was told that the doctor is not in and they will send a message to him for the next day when he in the Surgery. On 25th October I didn't receive nothing so I went in the Surgery, after the identification first I was asked if I was seen by the doctor because the doctor said he didn't see me, I told them about all the appointments and I was told from GP reception that the doctor doesn't think I need a fit note. I am speechless and my blood pressure is up to the roof again, I am trying to keep my calm bu I am really disappointed .

I am sorry to hear that you feel that your experience has caused you stress and upset. It appears during this period you were misinformed on the processes and seem to have had an expectation that a FIT note would be automatically sent to you. Having looked into the situation and discussed with the doctor I have been informed that a FIT note is not automatically given for high blood pressure. Medication is reviewed and increased/decreased as appropriate and you are asked to give it a bit of time to settle which is why you were asked to wait for 2 weeks. Very often patients turn up at the surgery for a Bp reading and find that their BP is high as they may have rushed or worry about the appointment, we are seeing more patients using their own BP machine at home and sending in their readings to the practice as a way to monitor their BP. You may decide that this is a good option for you and we will be happy to receive your readings and enter them into your health record. I hope things have improved greatly for you going forward if you have any other issues please do not hesitate to contact us Practice Manager
