Review titled Communication failures
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Philip Graham - Posted on 26 November 2024
I understand that the practice is lacking permanent doctors, being staffed by locums. We have found the staff at reception unfailingly friendly and sympathetic, aas have been the two different doctors who have seen my wife who has complex needs and who really needs a single GP to take responsibility. However, this does not explain the repeated breakdowns in essential communication between the GPs and us as patients, between hospital consultants and the GPs, and it would appear between all of these and reception. For example : a letter from a York neurology consultant to the practice recommending immediate changes in medication were not actioned until we found out about the letter and queried it at reception two weeks after the letter was sent. The resulting promise to "urgently" action the new prescription produced nothing concrete until I twice chased it up in person - the prescription finally reaching the pharmacy after five days, at 6pm on a Friday. On another occasion an appointment was made with the wrong orthopedic consultant at York hospital, meaning we had to try to rearrange it ourselves with the actual consultant who had requested that the practice refer the case to him. Several promises to pass messages to the practice social care staff, in order for them to evaluate home conditions, have resulted in nothing at all. Pressing "1" on the automated phone system (to be called back when a call reaches the front of the queue) has never resulted in a call back. Twice, the results of blood tests have not been communicated to us and there has been no follow-up by a doctor until we have initiated it. All told, our experience to date does not inspire confidence and leaves me worried about the standard of care my wife is receiving. I only hope that our experience to date has been a result of exceptional bad luck, and that it improves in future.

Review titled Poor Repeat Prescription Service
by Anonymous - Posted on 15 October 2024
I cannot believe how difficult it is to electronically process repeat prescriptions. After ordering online I received some of my requested meds. After waiting almost 2 weeks the majority still hadn't appeared. I checked online which showed that there status was "undetermined". I then approached the surgery to be old that "they had got stuck in the system" (how in an electronic system they can get stuck is a mystery). I left the surgery believing that everything was sorted. I've just checked again and they now need to be reviewed by a clinician. I get that meds need to be reviewed but why can't the surgery or it's system notify me. I will be out of meds in a few days and am getting stressed as I will start to get withdrawal symptoms within a few hours of not taking them. Phoning is no good. Waiting 45mins is not unusual before giving up and the person answering is not always helpful. Their website is down so it's another trip to the surgery tomorrow and then probably back again for my review. I never used to have this problem. I am aware of other people having similar problems. Is the surgery short-staffed or has it too many patients on it's books. Either way, it's service is currently poor.

Review titled Exceptional service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

My doctor referred me for a scan to be done by Yorkshire Health Solutions. From the initial text message and a phone call within an hour to book the appointment (given a choice of dates), to ringing up to check about parking at the centre (I live 20 min car drive away), to checking in at reception, to having the scans... everyone was so very helpful and professional. Whilst waiting for my appointment time (i was early), i glanced round an immaculate waiting area, no queuing at reception, everyone greeted on entry. A steady flow of patients coming in and out. Patients greeted by their practitioner. A patient having popped to the loo, told the receptionist there was no loo paper, within 5 mins someone appeared with some to replenish Very well run and managed centre with helpful and professional staff.

Review titled Unable to be seen
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Danielle - Posted on 29 August 2023
I called this morning to schedule the removal of my contraceptive implant and was advised they’re not booking those, and clinical appointments won’t be available until late October-early November. The receptionist, whilst polite, said that if it was something that needed sorting sooner, I should ring Northway clinic and request an appointment there. I called the number for Northway listed on Google, and the answer message advises that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they aren’t offering face-to-face appointments unless it’s an emergency. There was no opportunity to speak to anyone. I tried another Northway number — this time from the NHS website, and the line goes dead immediately. I’m not entirely sure what to do beyond this.

Dear Danielle, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that your experience with our practice hasn't reached your expectations. Please be advised that the number for Northway Clinic 01904 721111 is running for all patients, if you hold the line your query will be answered. If you are still struggling with contacting Northway clinic, please do contact the surgery again and we will see how we can help, as soon as we have capacity to run a contraceptive clinic we are actively calling patients on our list. If we can be of any further assistance, please do contact the surgery and we would be happy to help. Deborah Assistant Practice Manager
