  4. Review titled Good Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Neil Keane - Posted on 26 October 2024

I was extremely thankful for the level of care advice and time given to me by the pharmacist. I was anxious to reduce my blood pressure medication but her advice was to monitor it over five day period and she would follow up with the readings and give me her advice. A subsequent phone call confirmed it was not a good idea. She allocated me sufficient time to discuss a couple of other issues that were worrying me and her genuine manner put my mind completely at rest. Would that the were more like her? She is a tremendous asset to the surgery.

  7. Review titled Pleasant experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pleasant experience - Posted on 01 November 2024

I attended the surgery with high blood pressure, I was treated by having my medication adjusted. This improved my blood pressure vastly. My appointment was follow up with an appointment to see an advisor who asked me to take daily readings and return a week later. My pressure had improved but not sufficiently I was asked to carry out the monitoring for another couple of week and return . My blood pressure was now within the normal parameters. This visit was followed up wit two weekly spaced to monitor my progress. Happy to say my blood pressure has returned to a very good state

  10. Review titled Puzzled over language in my consultation notes

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Annie Maguire - Posted on 24 September 2024

When looking through the notes of my recent consultations, I’ve noticed that some practitioners are referring to me as “they” and “them”, whereas others use “she” and “her”. Although I am a senior citizen I am reasonably abreast of current trends and I am aware that pronoun preferences can be a sensitive issue for some people nowadays. However I am perfectly happy with the time honoured “she” and “her”, and I wonder if there is some way to record the preference so that in future anybody making these notes is aware? I do feel that I should have been asked for my preference at some point. I would appreciate your comments, thank you.

Dear Mrs Maguire, thank you for your feedback comments regarding your preferred gender pronouns and for bringing this matter to our attention. I have checked your notes and can see that the use of 'they' and 'their' is a generic feature of the computer software used for on-line triaging, in particular, when automatically clarifying about a patient's health concerns and medication in the third person. I have passed on your comments for the attention of the Anima computer software manager responsible for the software package for his information to see if there is a way to meet the needs of all of our patients in this regard. Just to re-assure you, the reply to a triage request from a clinician will be in the first person format (E.g. Addressed to you/a patient in person) as currently reflected in your notes. As discussed with you this morning, I'd like to take this opportunity to re-assure you that we will always endeavour to meet patient requirements/requests regarding the personalisation aspect of their medical records and to apologise that the standardised use of pronouns in Anima has caused you concern. I hope our conversation and this reply has clarified this for you but please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance. Kind regards, Geoff Cook Patient Liaison Officer
