  1. Review titled Pushy staff

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 19 December 2024

I went for a cervical screening recently and was seen by a pushy member of staff who repeatedly failed to listen to me and strayed from their scope of practice. Prior to this appointment, I had arranged to speak to my GP regarding my irregular periods as I wanted to know if this would negatively impact my cervical screening to which I was reassured it wouldn’t. However, when I went to my screening, the member of staff kept insisting that there was something wrong with me and doubted the outcome of my prior consultation with the GP. I ended up repeatedly having to reassure the member of staff that this was my normal presentation, and that I was managing my irregular periods fine. They continued to ignore me and kept insisting I book in to see my GP. I will not be doing this, as I had already addressed my concern with the GP and was very satisfied with the outcome. The member of staff that conducted my cervical screening did not gather further details that would suggest their advice was patient-centred; in fact I would argue that they were entertaining their own biases in the appointment. As these cervical screenings occur relatively often, I can only hope the next occurrence is with someone that actively listens to and respects patients’ wishes.

  2. Review titled E consult is not fit for purpose

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 December 2024

Completed a long winded and in part irrelevant e consult - was then advised “we can’t safely assess your symptoms through this online request-you need to talk to someone today instead “. Then called the surgery to book a doctor and was advised to tweak e consult to meet algorithm or call at 8am as there is no other option to book an appointment Complete and utter joke

I am sorry for the difficulties you experienced with the E Consult. If a colleague suggested you "tweak" the E Consult, I apologise for that as well. A more appropriate term would be to ask patients to be "mindful" when completing an E Consult. Many patients call the Practice after being advised by the E Consult to contact the Practice or 111 immediately. However, when informed that there are no appointments and they should call 111 or visit the Urgent Care Centre, they often tell staff that their situation is not "actually an 8 or a 10." Therefore, it's important for patients to be mindful when submitting an e-consult. If your symptoms appear to be very serious, E Consult will prevent you from completing the process and recommend that you seek urgent medical advice. As we are not an emergency service, if we have no available appointments due to high demand, you will be directed to call 111 or visit the Urgent Care Centre for more immediate assistance. E Consult is an online service that asks you questions about your symptoms or condition. After you provide some details to verify your identity, your E Consult is read by a GP . The E Consult the GP decide the best way to help you, and you might not need to visit the surgery. Benefits of E Consult: • Available anytime, from any device during Practice hours. • No need to queue on the phone or wait weeks for an appointment. • Complete it from home, work, or on the go. • Can be used for medical or administrative issues. • Often, you won't need a face-to-face appointment. If you prefer to manage your condition without contacting your practice, E Consult can guide you to trusted medical advice and local services like pharmacies. Trustworthy Service: • Created by NHS GPs for NHS GPs. • Leading online consultation provider in the UK. Convenience: • Seek advice from your GP during Practice Opening Hours. • Your GP knows your medical history and can continue your treatment. • No need to take unnecessary days off work or leave home if you're unwell unless a Face to Face appointment is necessary. • Avoid phone queues. • Your GP will decide if you need a face-to-face appointment or if they can help you in other ways i.e. with a phone call or by sending a prescription to your local pharmacy.

  3. Review titled Reception Angels

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 August 2024

The receptionists at this practice are so helpful. They really listen and do their best to get answers and help for all my requests. When I am ill, struggling to cope, they help me find my way. Last week I was so ill, went to the surgery asking for help. The receptionist persevered in getting a nurse and GP to help me. It took a long time, but throughout she was reassuring, calming and so helpful. Thank you

  4. Review titled Disgusting NHS

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 29 July 2024

Had an appointment booked and was messaged the location and time of appointment. We arrived, there was no appointment arranged for peglar square practice and instead it was booked in for coldharbour, which wasn’t explained to us. And we didn’t have time to mess around either as we had to book time off work due to this and lost out on earnings. NHS staff and admins you are a disgrace. You can’t even do the bare minimum for your patients and book the correct practice. Disgusting and shameful.

The Practice apologises for this mistake as we did at the time. We appreciate how difficult it can be for patients to get time off work and also that many patients have to take unpaid time off. I understand that the administrator who made this error called you to personally apologise and offer you another appointment which you declined as you were requesting a telephone consultation. After submitting an e consult, I understand that a telephone appointment was made for you on 5/08. However after three attempts the Clinician was unable to speak with you. I have today spoken with you and have rearranged an appointment for you to be seen when convenient.

  6. Review titled Always a struggle to get appointments

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Sherly - Posted on 19 February 2024

Over last couple of times there has been struggle to get an appointment at the practice, I have tried calling at 8 ( after being on hold for sometime) there are no appointments, econsult reponds after 24 or more hours and most of the time directed towards 111 or A & E I have spoken to number of team members across multiple locations & have been given reasoning( nhs misuse, cancellations, limited appointment etc).. I hear the issues but its not useful for me to keep listening to these ( I have my own struggles) & not able to get basic medical care. How do we improve this service so its accessible to everyone ? People with health issues get frequent appointments, primary reason for their failed health is due to delay in appointments - so we all need to be more sick before surgery prioritizes us ( which is more costly in long run), why can’t we aim to provide better services or learn from other practices which sre doing well

I apologise for the delay in responding. Please contact the Practice directly if you are still encountering difficulties in securing appointments. Both our telephone system and also our appointment protocol has changed considerable since February 2024 in a positive way which I hope the Patients have seen and been able to experience the benefits of.

  7. Review titled Very positive experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Emma - Posted on 30 August 2023

In the past three months, I had frankly excellent care on two separate occasions, in particular from the receptionists and nurses. In the first instance, the receptionist made sure I was placed on an emergency call list to speak to a doctor to get a referral to the early pregnancy unit. The initial online booking system had given me an appointment in four weeks' time. She was empathetic and kind, and without her we wouldn't have been able to see our baby's heart beat before I miscarried six weeks later. I genuinely can't thank this woman enough, although I never did get her name. In the second instance, the receptionist made sure we were seen by a nurse within ten minutes of walking in. My six-year-old had managed to stab his arm on a bit of wire sticking out of a fence. The nurse in turn ensured we left with a tetanus booster. All three people who saw my son spoke to him directly, made him feel comfortable in the face of an injection and ensured he knew exactly what was happening. And they made me feel like I had a modicum of control and a lot more knowledge than I felt when we walked in. We've been with the practice for about 4 years now and virtually every interaction I've had with the nurses have been fantastic, the doctors have been consistently great, but in the last few months, the receptionists have been stellar. (For total transparency, I should add that I walked in in both cases, and that I would happily never use the online booking system, which I often find unbelievably cumbersome.)

After completing a simple online econsult the doctor called at the specified time. He was friendly and helpful and prescribed medicine for pickup at the pharmacy next door. I was very happy with the service provided.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this review. The Practice is trying out this new way of helping Patients to get more immediate treatment they may need when the 8am on the day appointments have been filled. So far, this has proved positive.

  9. Review titled Avoid this practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

Awful practice. Especially if you have any disabilities that you might need help to access appointments they will not accommodate your needs or those of your family. If you can avoid this organisation then please do.

Thank you for your comment. As you know we have discussed your concerns with you on a number of occasions. However, I am sorry if this has not resulted in the outcome that you wanted. The reception staff are always happy to assist you in completing an e-consult for yourself and your family, and you have used this previously to secure an appointment for a member of your family. The Practice has continued to try to accommodate times and dates to suit you and your family member when necessary. As I have stated in my direct correspondence with you, all staff are well versed and skilled in their approach with patients regardless of a patient’s age, gender, marital/civil partnership status, being pregnant or on maternity leave, disability, race (including colour), ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, or sexual orientation. All patients and colleagues are equal. If patients require more time or additional help this is always provided either at the patient’s request but usually by a member of staff being able to identify these situations. Regards, Adele
