  1. Review titled Receptionist refused appointment

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 February 2025

I have an issue that requires a sensitive physical examination. As a lady I rang and asked for a same day appt. I was offered a female GP but told the male trainee has to be present. In my 30s I’ve had enough appointments and examinations to know I can ask for a female or refuse a male being present. The receptionist was adamant that I had no rights to this and suggested I ring 111? I said I’m happy to have the conversation in front of him if necessary but didn’t want him looking at me half naked. She said she had no alternative option other than to ring tomorrow. Even though there is a female GP available? I’m being made to wait or add to the 111 pressure? I am now still unwell, feel uncomfortable and stupid after this interaction, and lost as I’m sure this is not a 111 issue.

Dear patient, Thank you for your feedback. After listening to the telephone call between yourself and the Patient Care Adviser I apologise that you were given the incorrect information and you are correct that it is your choice whether to have the GP Registrar trainee in the consultation, or not. I will ensure that the new admin team member is aware of the incorrect advice she has provided to ensure it is not repeated going forward. If you would like to contact me to discuss further please do so. Mrs C. Hutchinson Business Manager

  2. Review titled Bad experience

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Wallace Mather - Posted on 20 December 2023

I had a phone appointment to get medication for a flare up of gout. The doctor seemed to disbelieve that I had gout. Even though my medical history would confirm it. He reluctantly gave me a prescription for Naproxen. After I paid for the prescription I realised he had prescribed me 10 tablets! So I paid £1 per tablet! This is ridiculous, I’ve never been prescribed less than 28.

Dear Patient Thank you for sharing your experience. Due to the side effects of the drug prescribed, the GP had provided a small quantity and has requested a follow up review in 5 days. Mrs C Hutchinson Practice Manager

  3. Review titled Superb service!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Went in for a blood test today, I have been in pain with another issue and the nurse who was takling my blood managed to get me an appt with one of the doctors there and then as she could see I was in a lot of pain. Cant thank her enough as I feel my situation has been now been escalated at Sunderland General Hospital as I have been struggling to deal with the pain I'm in. Many many thanks!
