Review titled How to ruin a great service
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Graham Buckley - Posted on 14 June 2024
I signed up for Babylon GP at Hand in 2018 and I have to say it was a fantastic service that ran smoothly and I always had timely efficient care. Unfortunately it was bought out and taken over by Emed last year and it has since become an extremely bad service with lengthy wait times, messy logistics and poor care ranging on dangerous sometimes. It is probably only a matter of time before there is a significant court case and the whole thing is shut down. At that stage, no doubt Emed will be laughing all the way to the bank. Shame on Emed for destroying a great service and shame on Babylon for selling out to these corporate vultures.

Thank you for your feedback. In response to your comments, we are now in the process of changing our appointment system. This will make it easier to get urgent help when you need it, whilst still maintaining the ability to book a routine appointment into the future. Our new system also has the ability to send "administration" queries to the practice, for times when you need something from us but don't need an appointment. We hope this will improve your experience.

Used to love this service, it was quick and efficient and exactly what London needed to help meet the demand for GP appointments. Now it's less than useless. I waited 3 weeks for an appointment with a prescribing pharmacist (it was the quickest I could get amongst the other medical professionals available), only for the appointment to be cancelled the day before. I then went to rebook the appointment and it was an additional 17 day wait for anything! That's 5 weeks to get a prescription! It's absurd

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that we had to reschedule your appointment due to clinician sickness. We will always try to reschedule your appointment within a short time frame when this happens. You can also call us if you wish to discuss a prescription issue. We are currently working on rolling out an online consultation system that will mean you will be able to send us a message for simple queries such as this. We expect to have this in place in the coming weeks and I hope this will improve your experience.

Review titled Cancelled my in-person appointment with 2 hours’ notice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 29 May 2024
I have had a lot of problems with EMed/Babylon cancelling my appointments at short notice over the years, or not being able to get an appointment at all, but today is a new low: I was about the leave the house 2 hours before my appointment for blood tests on the other side of London, when I received an email saying my appointment was cancelled. No explanation and no offer to re-book the appointment. Because it’s an in-person appointment, I can’t just re-book it as that has to be authorised by EMed, so I had to email them and ask for a new booking link. These tests are supposed to be 6 weeks after the last tests I had to see if there have been any changes, so now the timing will be messed up. I couldn’t get an appointment at all for the initial blood tests and had to book it at a hospital instead, but these tests are blood tests and some other tests, so I’m stuck with Babylon/EMed’s capricious whims.

Review titled Used to be great, now awful

When I first signed up to GP at hand in 2020 it was great. Appointments same day, great staff and easy interface. Now I struggle to see a non important staff (prescribing pharmacist or nurse) within a week and a GP has at least 2 weeks wait.

I had a blood test 3 months ago. They have cancelled my appointment to discuss the results with a nurse (never a doctor) 5 times on the day.

Review titled Has become a terrible service since new Provider took over
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Gabriel - Posted on 14 May 2024
I have been with this GP for 7 years and it was always hassle-free - easy to contact, easy to get appointments within 24 hours online and easy to book Blood tests/in-person appointments within a week. Since the new Provider took over I have been waiting for a blood test space for 2 months and have had around 3 appointments cancelled within the last 3 months - everytime I have to re-book it is a 10/20 day wait. Would recommend to everybody using this service to move to another GP ASAP.

Takes 2-4 weeks to get an appt which is only a 10 min telephone call. Cancelled two face to face appointments an hour before the appointment times. Unreliable and inefficient!

Review titled Very bad and treating anything remotely complex
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Laura - Posted on 07 June 2024
I've been suffering with a skin problem for 6 months now. Could only get appointments with 2 weeks notice and only after 4 months of trying different treatments (anti fungals, 2 courses antibiotics, lots of creams) was I even allowed to see a GP in person, who took a skin scraping (the result of which never came back). By this point had a very painful and spreading rash under my arms and on my arms. I was referred to a dermatologist and it took eMed 3 weeks to process the referral (they say it will take 5 days). Now I have to wait up to 2 months for the actual appointment. Ended up paying through the nose for a private dermatologist. Diagnosed my condition in 1 session - it's an immune disorder, not fungal or bacterial, and therefore I have been on lots of unnecessary treatments including 2 unnecessary rounds of antibiotics which have left me feeling weaker and susceptible to other illnesses going round. Feels like they just don't know and fob you off with any old thing and have no continuity, nurses turn up to 10 minute appointments and how can they have any sense of a person's ongoing medical issue if they haven't had time to read your history before and not met you before?

Review titled Random Diagnoses and Poor Integration with NHS as whole
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 12 April 2024
Its hard to see the same GP twice since they have 1000s (yet still no appointments less than 2 weeks away) and feels more like a conveyer belt, so end up getting wildly different opinions on what to do. Time gets wasted as the app tries to force you too see non-doctors for nearly everything, so you wait for that appointment, then it turns out you need medication so you have to see an actual doctor for a prescription so you have to wait another 2 weeks. Then when ever dealing with other forms of NHS such as a hospital or a referral communications between the two seem to always get lost. Causing delays to all treatment, rescheduling of follow up appointments as medication has not been prescribed yet. Having to make phone calls to act as a middle man so both sides get the information/form/email and you can actually get the medication you need prescribed. Also does not appear to get you to speak to a GP any faster even though its supposed to be a more efficient mechanism, rarely can you see a GP without a 2 week wait. If you call up for help, the people on phone really just following a script and can't do anything. Its all just a mess. Contact us form takes you out of the app. No complaints option in app and can't seem to complain directly too them as the password and username on their site doesn't seem to work for NHS patients.

Review titled Can no longer recommend
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Jordan - Posted on 11 April 2024
GP at Hand used to be a revolutionary service. Being able to see a GP "24/7" and "within minutes' - as quoted by their own website was amazing and is what drew me in and got me to move to them as my GP. Unfortunately, as time has gone on their promises no longer hold up, and the wait times are frankly - ridiculous. I understand that the NHS is facing more pressure than it ever has, but when trying to get a GP appointment recently, it was a 9 day wait for an appointment with a GP, which is absurd. What is the point of having 24/7 access "within minutes" advertisement when you're 9/10 days out always for appointments. Secondly, the handling of Repeat Prescriptions is sometimes a joke. I emailed in as always to get my repeat, but was declined and received a text that I needed to book with a Prescribing Pharmacist for a medication review before they could issue my medication - normal not a problem at all. However, when I tried to book an appointment for my review, would you believe it was a 6 day wait before I could get in with them. Which would practically cause me to run out of repeat medication. I think GP at hand has become dangerously oversubscribed and can no longer live up to their promises or their advertised wait times. The service is no longer revolutionary and unfortunately, only seems to be going down from here. I'll have to seriously reconsider whether I remain at the practice.
