Review titled GP Refuses to See Sick Child
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 December 2024
On 18/12/24 at 8 am, I called the surgery regarding my 14-year-old son who has had a persistent high fever of 38.5°C since last Thursday (7 days continuous). When speaking with the receptionist, I explained the situation in detail - the length of the fever, that it hasn't responded to over-the-counter medication, and that I was concerned about the duration of symptoms. The receptionist's response was to simply direct me to a pharmacy without even consulting a GP about the symptoms. When I explained that we had already tried pharmacy remedies for a week without success, I was still denied any possibility of a GP consultation or assessment. This was not just a case of being unable to get an appointment - the surgery actively refused to even consider seeing a child with a concerning, week-long fever.

Been trying for in excess of 55 minutes to try and get through to get test results, all I get is annoying music no indication as to whether you are in a queue or how long the wait is, absolutely terrible

Unfortunately, there was an issue with the IT system running our phone lines yesterday that has now been resolved. We apologise for the excessive waiting time. If you would like to take this further, please contact the practice manager, who will be happy to help. Alternatively, we have a complaint form on our website.

I came for an appointment during the day. Was not once was I greeted by any of the staff on the desk and whilst I waited for my appointment I had to listen to a lot of chatter. I understand that they have to right to talk but for someone who his waiting to be seen by a doctor, I don’t what to listen to a really loud conversation. It sounded like I was in pub not a doctors surgery

Review titled Very poor reception staff
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by J. Cooper - Posted on 28 November 2023
Had appointment for 14.40 After approx 10 minutes waiting one of reception staff called across to another waiting patient apologising and informing her the lady she was due to see was running late. I sat waiting for my appointment until 15.00 I approached reception and asked did they know how long I would be waiting ? I was informed by the same receptionist that the person I was due to see was running late due to an emergency and there was someone else due to see her before me!! This receptionist did not bother informing me there was a very long delay in my appointment which I had to leave as I was expecting someone at my home. All three staff were sat gossiping instead of ensuring all waiting patients were made aware of delay.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for the practice. We are sorry to hear about your experience at the practice, this is not the service we want to offer out patients. Unfortunately there are times when clinicians are delayed but we would aim to keep patients informed about this and we are sorry that this didn't happen on this occasion. We will discuss this with the whole team and take learning from this. Thank you once again for your feedback.

Review titled Amazing practice + people
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by C E-S - Posted on 23 August 2023
During a very stressful time (I needed medical evidence to prove my fitness to return to university after a year of mental health leave, and my initial fitness to return note was rejected as insufficient) the staff here, from the receptionists to the nurse practitioner to the doctors, were kind, sympathetic, and understanding even while my university wasn’t. I received two same day appointments in a short period of time, they kept in clear communication with me throughout through the patchs system, and they were able to provide me with the evidence needed even though it was a logistical nightmare. I can honestly say they went above and beyond to help me, especially on such short notice, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone there for both this particular incident and the support I have received throughout my mental health treatment in general. Highly, highly recommend.

Review titled Amazing people and care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Helen - Posted on 30 June 2023
I recently joined Haigh Hall Medical Centre as a new patient; I called today to make enquiries regarding my repeat prescriptions that I was no longer able to access - this issue was rectified promptly by the extremely polite and efficient reception team member. I also took the opportunity to seek a medical appointment for a general health check which I hadn't had completed for a number of years. To my pleasant surprise, I was offered a same day appointment and given enough time to be able to go through the matters I wished to discuss with the doctor. The doctor I saw was really lovely and welcoming; she listened to my issues and then gave me a really thorough check up, explaining as she went for anything I needed to understand. I feel like I've found a really great practice and am very grateful for the wonderful service received - thank you :)

Review titled Difficult to connect with reception
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 May 2023
I recently had the unfortunate experience of trying to contact the reception at Haigh Hall Medical Center, and I must say that it was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing ordeal. Despite my efforts, I was unable to connect with the receptionist after waiting for an astonishing 45 minutes on the phone. I had the same experience last month where I have to wait around 40 min before I can speak to someone. The primary purpose of a GP surgery's reception is to provide assistance, support, and effective communication between patients and the medical staff. Regrettably, Haigh Hall Medical Center falls short in this regard. The excessive wait time to speak with a receptionist is simply unacceptable and indicates a severe lack of consideration for patients' time and well-being. A medical center's reception should be the first point of contact for patients seeking assistance, whether it's to schedule an appointment, request medical advice, or discuss important matters related to their health. However, the unavailability and inefficiency of the reception staff at Haigh Hall Medical Center hindered my ability to address my concerns and left me feeling neglected. As a patient, I understand that medical centers can be busy and receptionists may face high call volumes. However, it is crucial for healthcare providers to employ adequate staffing and implement efficient systems to manage patient inquiries effectively. A lack of response for an extended period not only causes inconvenience but also raises concerns about the quality of care and the overall organization of the medical center. In conclusion, based on my experience, I cannot recommend Haigh Hall Medical Center due to the frustrating difficulty in contacting their reception. I strongly urge the management of the center to reevaluate their systems and prioritise the patient experience by improving accessibility and responsiveness. Patients deserve to feel supported and heard, and this medical center has failed to provide that fundamental level of care.
