  1. Review titled Awful telephone system

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Got cut off and had to rejoin queue twice, by which time all appointments were taken. I needed to see GP but could only do so after pharmacists approval. No continuity of GP is not good practice.

Dear Patient Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding the care you experienced at our practice. I am sorry on this occasion this did not meet your expectations as it is never our intention to cause upset to our patients, their families or carers. I am sorry too your call was disconnected and you were unable to get an appointment on this occasion. You may also wish to use the practice App to book appointments rather than the phone and can look on our website as we update this to advise of GP appointment availability. In terms of the pharmacist approval, I am unable to comment here as do not have the specifics but wish to assure you that pharmacists are qualified clinicians who work alongside our GP's to offer patient care and there would be a clinical reason for this decision. We are always happy to meet with patients to discuss their feedback and would be willing to do so here. Please contact the practice if you would like to arrange this. I will share your comments with our staff team and thank you once again for these. Best wishes Lilian Sayers Business Manager

  2. Review titled Negative experience

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 July 2023

Unfortunately I have decided to move to another NHS practice. It is a shame because the staff members were very nice. However, two weeks ago, after a simple blood test I got a big hematoma and a dull heavy painful ache that affected my sleep. I went to see a nurse who told me that my nerve must have been hit and it should settle down. A week later I showed my arm to a pharmacologist who said it did not look good. I was supposed to have an appointment with a GP regarding my blood test results. Unfortunately I missed my appointment as my phone just rang for a few seconds and then went off. I did not have enough time to answer the phone call. The next available appointment was in 2 weeks time. To conclude, I am on a life-long hormone therapy, and I still do not know how much medicine I need to take based on my blood test results, and my arm is still in pain after a routine blood check.

Dear Patient Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding the care you experienced at our practice. I am sorry on this occasion this did not meet your expectations as it is never our intention to cause upset to our patients, their families or carers. It is great to see the positive comments regarding our staff, however, we do take on board your views regarding potential improvements to your care. It is difficult to comment further on the specific issues you have raised here in absence of any opportunity to review. In terms of GP's calling patients back where calls have been missed, our GP's endeavor to call patients a second time and I again cannot comment on the specifics here. We are always happy to meet with patients to discuss their feedback and would be willing to do so here. Please contact the practice if you would like to arrange this. I will share your comments with our staff team and thank you once again for these. Best wishes Lilian Sayers Business Manager

I had a good experience with my GP. During my appointment, the clarity of all the questions impressed me. The doctor took the time to explain everything in a straightforward and easy-to-understand manner. Additionally, when I received a call, the doctor's professionalism and genuine concern for my well-being were evident. I felt well taken care of and reassured throughout the entire process.

  8. Review titled Inadequate and unresponsive

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Paul smith - Posted on 05 June 2023

I waited 40 mins on the phone for someone to take my call to try to make an appointment, but when the call was finally answered I was informed that appointments could not be made until 2:00 pm and I would have to try again in 10 minutes. Another 30 mins on the phone after 2:00 pm to be told that an appointment could be made, but in two weeks time - and not a face to face appointment, just a phone call. I asked to speak to the practice manager but they also failed to contact me. What a sorry, ineffective and potentially life threatening state of affairs. I need a change in my cardiac prescription but will need to go to our local emergency hospital department to avoid a potentially dangerous delay. This practice has accepted over 15000 patients and the accompanying uplift in practice income but has only employed 6 Doctors. This is reckless and greedy. Please sort this out.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on NHS choices. Thank you for also leaving your name so we can investigate your concerns in more detail. I cannot break any patient confidentiality on this forum and would advise Paul to contact the practice so he can join the Patient Participation Group or use this link: https://harbornemedical.co.uk/contact/patient-participation-group We were sorry to hear you were experiencing the difficulties you describe as this is not the experience we wish for our patients or carers. We wish to assure our patients that we have the upmost concern for their health and are sorry you were unable to get an appointment at a timeframe which was agreeable to you. As per previous comments, appointments open at 8am and 2pm. The easiest way to access these is via online booking. We update our website AM and PM to advise when GP appointments are full and ask patients to look on the website before calling, although appointments with other health professionals may still be available. We have investigated the length of time taken to answer your call. At the time of your call there are two members of staff dedicated to answering calls, a lower number than when the calls are busier and also reflects the time of day when staff need to take breaks. Unfortunately, on this day one staff member was dealing with a prolonged matter leaving only one staff member to answer the calls and as such the length of time to answer your call was higher than we would hope. We monitor our calls on a daily basis and your length of time was significantly outside for the average over the day. It was good to see that the staff member did offer a prebooked appointment although you felt the time frame was inappropriate. You were offered the choice to rebook when the appointments opened at the usual time. In terms of speaking with the practice manager, I am sure you will appreciate this may not always be possible for numerous logistical reasons for the manager to have capacity for this and I am sorry you feel upset. I would expect staff members answering the phones to be able to discuss your concerns without needing higher management as per their training. In regards to your comment on the number of clinical staff, I can confirm the practice has a diverse team of clinicians caring for our patients. Please see our full staff list at the following link that includes, but not limited to, 7 partners, 5 associate doctors, registrars, a physician associate, 2 paramedics, an advanced nurse practitioner, 3 nurses, a general practice assistant, a health care assistants, an in house phlebotomist, a hospital phlebotomist on home visits and an internal clinic, a pharmacist, a social prescriber, a health and well-being coach, a musculo-skeletal practitioner and a physiotherapy team. https://harbornemedical.co.uk/about-us/our-team We again thank you for taking the time to comment on NHS choices. Thank you for taking the time to comment on NHS choices. It was good to see you have been able to book an appointment in advance. Please note we offer appointments up to 4weeks in advance. We also offer (the majority) of our appointments at 8am and 2pm on the day. These appointments are available online, via the phone line (which is busy at peak times) and at reception when booking in person. Please do not hesitate to use these services to book an appointment sooner (and please remember to cancel the later date as this is commonly forgotten which is why the number of prebooked appointments is limited). Thank you The Harborne Medical team
