Review titled Good friendly Service
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Maureen Patterson - Posted on 20 June 2023
Although a quick visit, the receptionists and the Dr were courteous, helpful as well as very approachable. They listened to my issues and it felt reassuring that they were genuinely concerned about them and ensuring In/out on the right path so that my condition may improve

Review titled Inadequate and unresponsive
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Paul smith - Posted on 05 June 2023
I waited 40 mins on the phone for someone to take my call to try to make an appointment, but when the call was finally answered I was informed that appointments could not be made until 2:00 pm and I would have to try again in 10 minutes. Another 30 mins on the phone after 2:00 pm to be told that an appointment could be made, but in two weeks time - and not a face to face appointment, just a phone call. I asked to speak to the practice manager but they also failed to contact me. What a sorry, ineffective and potentially life threatening state of affairs. I need a change in my cardiac prescription but will need to go to our local emergency hospital department to avoid a potentially dangerous delay. This practice has accepted over 15000 patients and the accompanying uplift in practice income but has only employed 6 Doctors. This is reckless and greedy. Please sort this out.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on NHS choices. Thank you for also leaving your name so we can investigate your concerns in more detail. I cannot break any patient confidentiality on this forum and would advise Paul to contact the practice so he can join the Patient Participation Group or use this link: https://harbornemedical.co.uk/contact/patient-participation-group We were sorry to hear you were experiencing the difficulties you describe as this is not the experience we wish for our patients or carers. We wish to assure our patients that we have the upmost concern for their health and are sorry you were unable to get an appointment at a timeframe which was agreeable to you. As per previous comments, appointments open at 8am and 2pm. The easiest way to access these is via online booking. We update our website AM and PM to advise when GP appointments are full and ask patients to look on the website before calling, although appointments with other health professionals may still be available. We have investigated the length of time taken to answer your call. At the time of your call there are two members of staff dedicated to answering calls, a lower number than when the calls are busier and also reflects the time of day when staff need to take breaks. Unfortunately, on this day one staff member was dealing with a prolonged matter leaving only one staff member to answer the calls and as such the length of time to answer your call was higher than we would hope. We monitor our calls on a daily basis and your length of time was significantly outside for the average over the day. It was good to see that the staff member did offer a prebooked appointment although you felt the time frame was inappropriate. You were offered the choice to rebook when the appointments opened at the usual time. In terms of speaking with the practice manager, I am sure you will appreciate this may not always be possible for numerous logistical reasons for the manager to have capacity for this and I am sorry you feel upset. I would expect staff members answering the phones to be able to discuss your concerns without needing higher management as per their training. In regards to your comment on the number of clinical staff, I can confirm the practice has a diverse team of clinicians caring for our patients. Please see our full staff list at the following link that includes, but not limited to, 7 partners, 5 associate doctors, registrars, a physician associate, 2 paramedics, an advanced nurse practitioner, 3 nurses, a general practice assistant, a health care assistants, an in house phlebotomist, a hospital phlebotomist on home visits and an internal clinic, a pharmacist, a social prescriber, a health and well-being coach, a musculo-skeletal practitioner and a physiotherapy team. https://harbornemedical.co.uk/about-us/our-team We again thank you for taking the time to comment on NHS choices. I had an appointment with Dr … a few days ago . I was so worried as I had on-going some skin irritation symptoms around my nose since January . He kindly listened to me. Then he explained about the test and treatment . He is a highly skilled and caring Doctor . Thank you so much 😊

Thank you for taking the time to comment on NHS choices. It was good to see you have been able to book an appointment in advance. Please note we offer appointments up to 4weeks in advance. We also offer (the majority) of our appointments at 8am and 2pm on the day. These appointments are available online, via the phone line (which is busy at peak times) and at reception when booking in person. Please do not hesitate to use these services to book an appointment sooner (and please remember to cancel the later date as this is commonly forgotten which is why the number of prebooked appointments is limited). Thank you The Harborne Medical team

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Very difficult to get through,I cannot understand why we cannot book an appointment for a time in the week which is mutually convenient. The 8 am and 2 pm call is ridiculously busy.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on NHS choices. I am sorry you feel this way regarding the appointment system. We feel this allows good access to appointments with a significant proportion of patients requiring same day access. Please remember to use the online booking rather than the phone service and that appointments can be booked up to 4weeks in advance. Thank you The Harborne Medical team

Review titled Great service
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Daniel Wallace - Posted on 23 March 2023
The receptionist I spoke to was outstanding and really helpful and understanding. Showed compassion and got me straight in for an appointment with a GP immediately. The GP who I saw was also brilliant, took time to talk to me and explain things and has gone the extra mile to chase things up for me. Really good service from both.

Review titled Terrible practice!
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 February 2023
The waiting times are ridiculously horrendous here! I called at 8 am, waited an hour in the line only to be told to call back at 2pm. The same happened at 2pm too and when I mentioned I was concerned about my health, she only said all I could do was keep calling everyday at 8am and 2pm till someone answers! This is absolutely ridiculous and a total waste of people's time!! I am appalled at the complete lack of concern for a patient's health by the practice!

Dear Patient I am sorry you are experiencing the difficulties you describe as this is not the experience we wish for our patients or carers. We wish to assure our patients that we have the upmost concern for their health and are again sorry if this seems otherwise. We are in the process of upgrading our phone systems and are confident patients will see a significant improvement in getting through to the practice. The new system will allow for the practice to call patients back to save them waiting on the line and we will provide updates to the installation time-frame on our website. We also update our website AM and PM to advise when GP appointments are taken and ask patients to look on the website before calling, although appointments with other health professionals may still be available. Patients can also make appointments on the practice App and are able to contact NHS111 if they feel they need an appointment sooner than they are able to obtain this from the practice. Once again, thank you for your time. Best wishes Lilian Sayers Business Manager
