Review titled Disregard for patients
Rated 2 stars out of 5

The surgery all of a sudden introduced a requirement to register your car when parking in the car park. Many patients were oblivious to this, and for someone with a family having attended several appointments within a short space of time, it was very costly. Many others also had this problem. The surgery eventually started to write on appoitnment notices that registration is necessary for car parking. But, it was too late. The fines/charges had already been recorded and were sent out. Basically, for an appointment at this surgery, something as simple as a blood test, it costs £60-£100. We have been robbed. Imagine having half your monthly salary going to pay for the surgery's parking charges. Disgusting. While these doctors, at this surgery, earn ~90k a year, they implement such inconsiderate measures to further burden the underprivileged. At the same time, doctors cry poverty and go on strikes. The surgery has been very unhelpful. They gave a blunt answer: "it's between you and the parking company; nothing to do with us." I am planning on moving to another surgery. I know of other who are following suit. Avoid this surgery at all costs. (Quite literally!).

There are several reasons listed below, why the partners of the practice had to act regarding our parking situation. • Dangerous for patients - the situation had become dangerous for patients with people parking down the centre of the car park, not in spaces. We have had incidents where patients on foot have not been seen by cars trying to manoeuvre which could potentially cause serious harm. We have also had situations were frustrated drivers have had stand up arguments in the car park with each other, where we have had to intervene. • Patients were late arriving for appointments due to not being able to get parked. Being late does mean that our clinicians have less time to handle patient problems at appointment. Patients are rushed and stressed on arrival which does affect how they appear to clinicians who are assessing their health and also can affect any clinical tests that are being done in the appointment. • Complaints - the practice was repeatedly receiving complaints from patients on a daily basis asking for action to be taken. • Our patient list size continues to grow rapidly with approx 12000 patients now • People parking in our car park and then walking across to the hospital with cars being left for long periods and some all day. Over the last few years, the practice have been in contact with Kirklees Council and West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, by correspondence and attending meetings. They are aware of our parking situation and were not able to support with a solution for additional parking space. With no additional funding available to support us and recognising the seriousness of the problem, earlier this year the practice invested in a re-design of our current parking area and we were able to create 5 additional parking spaces. All available areas are now fully utilised. Unfortunately, this alone is not enough to resolve the issues we were having. In view of the above and having exhausted other options, we noted that the use of ANPR cameras is one which has been introduced in many practices across the UK that have issues similar to ours. Clear signage is positioned at the entry to the car park, around the car park, next to the front door and inside the building. Our staff where possible, are also reminding patients and available to help those that need assistance with the screen. Since implementation at the beginning of August, we have seen significant improvement in relation to the issues we were having with the majority of patients inputting their vehicle registrations. We have had many comments regarding it now being easier to park and have positive support from our Patient Reference Group. Finally, we can confirm that there is absolutely no financial gain to the practice or its partners. We hope this clarifies the situation Healds Road Surgery

Review titled Impossible to get a appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5

The surgery operate a system where you have to call at 8am to make a appointment. Called at 8am exactly and they tell me the call queue is full and hangs up! No email address. No other method of contact. Tried to keep calling in case it's an error but still no luck. Same with repeT prescriptions. You have to physically go to the surgery and write it down on a paper. Extremely inconsiderate of individuals and older people that may be not be able to do this. Shocking service that needs reviewing as matter of urgency
