Spoke with an experienced doctor who took time to make a diagnosis and recommend treatment for me to follow.

  2. Review titled A very stressful experience

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I had an appointment to see my usual Holly Road Medical Centre GP and I am neurodivergent. Firstly, I was seated in the medical centre's waiting area for over 30 minutes because my GP was running late. When I was seated in the waiting area, the waiting area was very noisy: there was lots of chatter, an alarm went off, two children were playing and a parent was shouting. This was very stressful for me and I felt that I was not having a good afternoon! I appreciate that it is probably inevitable that a GP will sometimes be running late, but, again, the receptionist did not tell me that the GP was running late and, again, the GP did not apologise to me and instead said 'Good afternoon' to me! Secondly, I have mixed feelings about the rest of my GP appointment, including the information the GP recorded in my health records. On the one hand, in regard to the way I was previously managing my presenting medical problem, I feel that the GP asked me a condescending question, but I am an intelligent person and the way I was managing the medical problem was to follow specific NHS guidance. Additionally, in regard to my health records, I feel a little confused because some of the medical abbreviations the GP used are not included in regard to the NHS's 'Abbreviations you may find in your health records' on the NHS website and I feel bothered the GP wrote that I had 'denied' something. However, in regard to the GP's treatment of my presenting medical problem, I am satisfied. For example, his plan was clear and good.

  3. Review titled Excellent consultation with immediate action

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Attended practice for help with a fellow patient. Consultation was thorough and action for hospital follow up was immediate. Now waiting for appointment but the urgent action was reassuring for us both.

  4. Review titled Awful practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

Reception staff are very unhelpful and unaccommodating. One of the more ‘experienced’ receptionists has been rude to myself many times since I have been registered to this practice. Particularly when I have been to the Gp with a newborn baby and anxiety and emotions were running high. I ended up becoming quite tearful at how the reception staff spoke to me. One time I took in the buggy and struggled to check in due to a Que of people so I sat down with the children. They then failed to ‘check me in’ and the lady due to be seen after me was called in by the doctor first. The receptionist could see that I was struggling with pram and 2 children but didn’t come over to see if she could help or see if she could check me in herself. I also witnessed rudeness to other patients while I have been in the waiting room. It feels like the receptionists take great enjoyment in telling people that there are no appointments available for over 3 weeks. It is Very difficult to get an appointment to see either of the GPS and the follow up and continuity is very poor. One GP is brilliant and has great communication skills, the other has very poor communication skills and frankly will do the absolute minimal examination/history taking (even when assessing children). He types and barely looks across at the patient. Neither doctor follows up actively with their patients for example to explain blood test results, or to see how 2 week wait referral went. Recently I submitted a patches and rather than a GP dealing with my request it was closed down by the receptionist. I had advised on the patches that I work 9-5 and that my preferred way to respond would be email or text while at work. Neither of which I recieved before the case was closed. I recently required a referral to neurology following an optician appointment and there was absolutely no communication with me. All I got was an automated referral to ophthalmology . No explanation of why neurology was no longer the plan. No preference of where I would like to be seen. No ‘checking in’ to see how my symptoms were.
