On Thursday 29 September, after hours at 18:43, I emailed my clinic GP to inform my clinic GP that I had just received the results of two skin biopsies that had been performed in the United States on 21 September. The biopsies showed one malignant melanoma in situ and one small basal cell carcinoma. At 19:28 the same evening (after hours), the same clinic GP responded by email to indicate that the GP had arranged an appointment at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Dermatology department, medical photography for the following Thursday 6 October. Thereafter, I was given an appointment to remove both lesions a month later on November 10. On Monday 21 November I called the Imperial Health Centre to arrange for an appointment for my surgery stitches to be removed. The staff immediately set an appointment late the following day, November 22, with a practice nurse to remove the stitches. Late morning of November 22, I had a health review call with my same clinic GP which had been previously arranged to review my Care Plan. One of the outcomes of the call with my GP was the need to have some blood lab tests done. I mentioned to my GP that I would actually be seeing the practice nurse later that day to remove my stitches. The GP promptly arranged to have the blood samples taken by the practice nurse at the same time. In short, within 45 minutes of having received my initial email after hours, my clinic GP had arranged a hospital appointment for me the following week, which led to my melanoma being successfully removed on November 10, just over a month later. The clinic staff arranged for my stitches to be removed within 24 hours of my call and my GP arranged for blood tests the same day as my call with said GP. For me, this is a remarkable example of the consistent high quality of care I have received from the Imperial College Health Centre for over 10 years. The staff at all levels are responsive, helpful, friendly, competent and responsible. It is a benchmark for all other surgeries to aspire.
