I attended this GP surgery for an appointment with the nurse, while waiting in the reception area I was absolutely appaled by what I could hear in the waiting room, and how patient confidentialty was breached in many ways. While sitting waiting, I am not too sure if a HCA or a phlebotomy colleague was calling patients in, she never closed the door of the room, I could see straight in but also hear the conversations she was having with them about medical conditions, what happened to privacy? Also a male GP was doing a telephone consultation with a patient on the phone, he had his door open and the female patient on loud speaker, I heard the whole call, & really felt for the lady as she would never know that not just me but others in reception could hear everything(!) It was outrageous, I told the receptionist but she said nothing they could do, really(!), use a headphone and close the door, and the HCA close the door too. Surely this is a breach of DPA, that lady answered 3 security questions at the start of that call, I knew her name, Date of birth and 1st line of her address, I would have been fuming if that was me on the end of the phone Surely as you just don't offer GP face to face appointment anymore, and only do telephone, confidentialty is still key? This really needs looking in too. This surgery can't be breaching data protection in this way.

Dear Patient I would firstly like to apologise for the discomfort you felt while sitting in the waiting room and being able to hear the consultations of other patients. The consulting room doors should be closed while doing any form of consultation whether it be a telephone call or face to face for confidentiality purposes, so in view of your observation and feedback I have completed a risk assessment and I have also spoken to the reception team and the clinicians on site to make sure that their doors are closed during any consultation. If you would like to discuss the matter any further please contact the surgery and ask to speak to the Senior Regional Officer Kind regards

I rang yesterday and was told I needed to ring at 8am today which eventually got through being number 11 in the queue after being on hold for an age got told no appts unless I went Erdington there is a bus strike on and why can't I walk to my surgery 2 minutes from my house. I have a water infection and was told to drop a sample in to the nurse that's fine but I need to see a doctor as this is a recurring problem seem to have this constantly. This is an appalling service where are the doctors if I ring at 8am tomorrow I am just going to be told the same thing. Why at 8.20am have all apps been taken why keep the building open when obviously there are no doctors there except for extremely brash receptionists!!!

Dear Patient I am sorry you had difficulty getting through to the surgery to then be told there were no appointments available which I understand is very frustrating. Unfortunately currently the demand for appointments is extremely high at the moment and due to circumstances beyond our control we were short of a clinician on that day. We do try and accommodate all of our patients that require an appointment but if we are unable to offer an appointment at the surgery we do offer appointments at our Erdington Medical Centre Hub, albeit you were unfortunately not able to get to on that day. I would like to apologise if you thought that the receptionist you spoke to was brash and in view of your review I will be feeding that back to the reception team. If you would like to discuss the matter further please do not hesitate to email the surgery and ask for a call back from the Senior Regional Officer. Kind Regards
