  1. Review titled Friendly staff and calm experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had my first smear test which was of course nerve wracking. The nurses was incredibly kind and calming, making the experience a very positive one. The environment of the surgery is always a safe one and I have not had any negative experiences.

  2. Review titled Our NHS is the envy of the World

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Robert Spiers - Posted on 29 May 2024

Called NHS 111 as I was concerned about a problem I have had for a while. They were thorough in their investigation but felt I should have the problem looked at by my GP. NHS 111 then set up a telephone appointment for the following morning(I did not have to phone😊). The GP at Kirby Road Surgery phoned me at 07:50 the following morning and quickly gave me a face to face appointment at 10:20. The GP was able to put my mind at rest but to be sure has arranged for an Ultra Sound scan. The scan is not urgent so why should that be quick? I cannot fault this surgery, I have been with therm for 20 years and yes they had some problems over Covid and just after but didn’t we all? We need to stop complaining. Positive suggestions are always far more productive.

It is virtually impossible to get an appointment , after waiting an hour on hold I got through to the practise and told them a very concerning discovery about my health to be told that they are fully booked and would have to try again the following week , it’s genuinely like they don’t care

  4. Review titled Disorganised

Rated 2 stars out of 5

After never being able to get an appointment on the day, I managed to pre book an appointment on the 24th February for the 29th March. On arrival along with two other ladies that had managed to book in advance, we were told that their was a technical issue and the Doctor we had booked was not in that day! Looks like his day off and been changed without anyone being notified. There is no consideration that people change and re arrange their plans. It would make the practice and the patients life a lot easier if pre booked appointments, came back and left on the day to emergencies only. The current set up does not help the staff or the patience. I have been a patient for over 30 years and prior to covid and the changes it would always be a surgery I could recommend for efficiency, communication and helpfulness.

  5. Review titled Kirby Road Surgery Dunstable Beds

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 January 2023

Kirby Road Surgery, Dunstable, Beds is awful, theres a constant change of staff, mainly doctors, you have to ring on the day for an appointment at 8am and when you do you're immediately in a queue of 10 people or more, you're kept on hold whilst the queue goes down and by the time you get through all appointments have gone! They tell you to ring back at 1pm - where exactly the same thing happens! This us every single day. Its near impossible to get an appointment.

  6. Review titled Very bad practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 February 2023

Unfortunately this practice never has appointment! Always ask to call same day for appointment and thought been on time to call never received the appointment. This is frustrating and disappointing. Although I have lots of health issue but fed up to call them. The staff specifically nurses and receptionist are so rude! They don’t support or help and just ignore

  7. Review titled Awful practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 January 2023

I have been with this practice for many many years. This surgery does not warrant a 1 star, never ever able to get an appointment, except for a couple of helpful receptionists & nurses, really badly managed. I have now changed to a surgery where they actually see patients, luckily no more remote doctors.

  8. Review titled Terrible appointments system

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 October 2022

I have been a patient of this practice for many years and have always found the staff to be professional, polite and caring. Things have changed in the last couple of years. I appreciate, of course, that they are under pressure and the covid pandemic made changes to the way patients are seen, however, they are still running things as if it were April 2020! It is totally impossible to book an appointment in advance for a routine matter. The only way is to call at 8am or 1pm for an on the day phone appointment. This could be for the least urgent issue but then you are taking an appointment from someone who does have an urgent issue. So many times I have phoned day after day at 8 and 1, to find you are number 30 in the queue and when you reach the receptionist, all the appointments have gone. It’s a crazy system. The receptionists are under enormous strain and it shows, they are abrupt at best, rude and aggressive at worst, interrupting you and talking over you on the phone and asking for detailed information about your reason for calling. This really should be only discussed with a dr. There are also times when it might might be useful for a dr to actually see their patients, a phone call does not always suffice. During a rare face to face appointment, one of the practice nurses rolled their eyes and sighed when I asked if I could ask a question, I then said it didn’t matter as I could tell they weren’t interested. I was ushered out with a slammed door behind me. Literally the only saving grace is that if you can ever get to see one, the doctors are professional and invested in helping you. But it is impossible to overstate how difficult it is to get to speak with a dr let alone actually see one!

  9. Review titled Try getting an appointment! Their system is shocking.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 September 2022

This surgery has a very bad appointment system. To see a doctor, you can only phone 8 o’clock in the morning for a morning appointment or at 1 pm for an afternoon appointment on that day. If you’re off work that’s fine and don’t mind being on hold for ages, but if you are not so ill that you can go to work but still need to see a doctor for something that is not urgent, you cannot make an appointment for any time in advance. If you work in a school, for example, you can phone in the morning, be one of the very very lucky ones to actually get an appointment after having been on hold for about 20 minutes plus, but then it is not possible to just tell work you won’t be in later as classes have to be covered etc. It must be the same for any other workers that cannot just drop everything to go to the doctors for a short while - for example driving examiners, firemen etc. There are no opportunities to make doctor appointments in advance - you can to see a nurse though. When you’re there, the surgery is fine but it’s almost impossible to get there in the first place. Something needs to change. It took me five attempts to get an appointment… I don’t work on Tuesdays so am only able to try and get an appointment on that day. Therefore, it took me well over a fortnight to get to see a doctor. This system is crazy… it is no wonder that the hospitals A & E depts are so busy - people are unable to get an appointment at their GP so they go to A & E.

  10. Review titled Difficult to see a doctor but excellent doctors

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 August 2022

Yes its very hard to get an appointment but once I spoke to a doctor I was super impressed with the empathy and clinical expertise. I was not rushed through the appointment. I think they are doing a great job under incredible pressure.
