  1. Review titled Excellent clinicians, but hard to access them

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 08 November 2023

This GP practice used to be the very "top of the tree" in Chichester, and in some ways it still is, but unfortunately it's become gradually harder to access its services over time. The GPs, nurses and other clinical staff are generally excellent, helpful and extremely good - but only once you get to speak to them. That's where you encounter the tricky bit. Trying to convince some of the reception team staff that your medical condition fits within their fairly narrow set of parameters that they have in mind - neither too trivial for the chemists' nor serious enough for A&E - is stressful and frustrating. They seem to be inconsistent within team, as the more accommodating receptionists will help you arrange a GP or nurse appointment whereas others will fight hard to send you somewhere else, prioritising the retention of available appointments over patient needs. I do fully understand that the reception team are trained to triage issues to some extent, but I feel that they regularly exceed their boundaries of competence in making what are, in effect, clinical judgements outside of their remit. This is especially concerning when they countermand advice given by the GPs or by the practice nurse in their eagerness to try to divert patients to other services, irrespective of whether this is appropriate. I believe there should be better "joined up" working between the administrative and clinical aspects of the practice which would help it to align towards a single, more patient-focused approach, as both sides seem to have an entirely different view of their goals and purpose.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you feel our reception team are not working effectively. In October we sent a Friends and Family survey to patients who have had an appointment in the last month; 240 patients replied with 90% saying they would be likely or very likely to recommend us to friends and family. We had a large number of positive comments specifically about our reception team, describing how helpful, respectful and friendly they are. This year, our clinical team have written signposting guidance for our reception team, detailed by specific symptom/condition. This ensures consistency of approach and that reception staff ask the right questions and offer potential solutions that our clinical team want them to say. We would very much like to discuss your experience further, so please do get in touch with the Practice Manager.

  3. Review titled Friendly, welcoming practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Haven’t been with this practice long, although my husband has been with the practice many years. However, my newborn and I have has a few appointments the last few months and every single one has been great, even seen with very short notice at times. Her GP in particular is just lovely, so kind. No judgement and “always happy to see her” as he says. Genuinely so pleased to be here.

This was a surprise to me as I have not experienced an NHS surgery to be any good before. This surgery, the doctors and the receptionist are so professional and so nice it makes such a difference.

  5. Review titled Friendly, helpful amd with time when there is an issue.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Iain - Posted on 04 December 2023

I use both the West Street surgery and Bosham branch surgery and have found that reception staff are efficient and generally friendly, though Bosham appears to have more time to help people. I feel that reception staff at Langley House are exceptionally busy and are having to deal with many things, but they are still polite and attentive . The medical staff are excellent - I have had nothing but courtesy and care from everyone I have met with good advice given.i have recommended the surgery to several friends since it is probably the most caring one that I have been a patient of from Bath, London and now in Chichester.,

  6. Review titled Amazing service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

An infrequent user of their services, I had a minor medical issue with my eyes - went through 111 which advised contacting one's GP - this I did with sinking heart as the media is constantly filled with negative stories. Calling late morning I was amazed to be offered a face to face appointment later that day - I attended - was thoroughly assessed and treatment prescribed. I am so impressed and grateful - Thank you!

  7. Review titled Rude receptionists

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Farzeen Ansari - Posted on 27 March 2023

My mother has been registered in this Pangley house surgery for last 10 years. She was away fur a while and is extremely vulnerable. Every time I want to make an appointment for my mother the receptionists have been extremely rude to my mother without any valid reason and refused to book fir a face to face appointment. Few times I thought of changing the surgery but because of the persistent care from all the GPs I haven’t. I’m occasion the receptionists discriminated my mother and said she can’t be seen as she can’t rode stairs and there is no doctors available downstairs fir her. I look forward to hear back from the surgery.

  8. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 March 2023

My son had excellent care today from Langley House Surgery. I was expecting to be held in a long queue when I called first thing but the voice recording explained my number had been logged and I would receive a call back. This happened around 20 mins later, when I was called by a very police and efficient receptionist who listened well and booked a timely, in-person appointment with the emergency doctor, which was what my son needed. The Gp was superb- he listened well, put my son at ease and dealt with his problem with skill and kindness, which is everything you would want from a doctor. The pharmacy staff were also helpful and explained the prescription clearly. I was extremely impressed and reassured by the high level of care of my son at Langley House today and want to thank them for continuing to offer an excellent service despite all the challenges they face.

  9. Review titled Great drs, shame about the receptionists

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 February 2023

Phoned this morning to explain my medical problem….was told that my cough must be viral…explained I’ve been coughing for nearly four months, to witch receptionist replied that her grand daughter has had a cough for months also! And that it’s viral. Are the receptionists now medically trained? Also had another medical problem as well. However a lovely paramedic called me this afternoon am now on antibiotics and have been referred for a chest X-ray. A little more politeness from the receptionists wouldn’t go a miss… it’s a shame as apart from receptions making you feel like a big inconvenience, the drs, nurses, dispensaries and the rest of the team are amazing.

  10. Review titled Still an Incredibly Brilliant Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Alison Latter - Posted on 21 October 2022

I have previously left a review, however, I wanted to leave a further review to reiterate how fantastic this surgery truly is. I've needed a lot of support over the last few years and needed the surgery a huge amount. However, they have always been there for me, never made me feel I was a pest (even if they may think it!) & have always given me the time needed without rushing. I have always felt listened to & felt my GP has always included me in my care plans & next steps. My GP has diagnosed a few conditions for which I've suffered with symptoms for years, one particularly that I've had issues with for decades (breathing problems) & gone back to many GPs at other surgeries & they've not bothered to take the time as I do not have "typical" asthma symptoms & just dismissed me. This GP has listened and taken the time to diagnose . I feel incredibly relieved to have finally got the diagnosis of asthma & have now started on a process of finding the best inhaler for me. The surgery is so well led & that is reflected in the attitudes of members of staff and the way they do their jobs and try their very best for all patients. In this climate it is particularly important to speak up when things are done well as the press are intent on bringing GP surgeries down. I have had no problem getting appointments and always with my preferred GP (unless they are on holiday). These appointments range from emergency (same day), semi-urgent (2-3 days) and routine (approximately 4 weeks) - the admin team triage the requests perfectly as to whether it is an urgent appointment or routine. One example is this week I hurt my back, I didn't want to call the surgery (having already been seen once this week) and so I did an econsult in the morning and said it was urgent because of the intense pain I was in, early afternoon I got a text to say that a doctor (it was my preferred GP) would call me that afternoon. The GP called me at 6.45pm (so anyone that suggests GPs don't work hard needs to rethink that because how many other people are still working hard at 6.45 in the evening (to get through their list) having probably been at work since 8.00am!). I got the advice I needed and my back is much better now. Usually I have face to face appointments at my request (yes, this surgery will accommodate a face to face every time if that is what a patient wants), but due to being less mobile with the back pain & the short notice request for advice, I requested a phone call on this occasion as I knew a face to face was not practical for the surgery or myself. So, although it means that my health has not been the best and that is why I have needed dozens of appointments, it has actually been a pleasure (amid difficult personal circumstances) being a patient at Langley House & I would recommend it 100%. Thank you to everyone at Langley House for making it easy to see my GP & request the help I need, while I've been going through an exceptionally difficult time. I really do appreciate it.
