  1. Review titled Emergency appointment with general practitioners

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Unexpected acute abdominal pain lasted overnight so phoned for general practitioner appointment. Receptionist was empathetic and understood l felt unable due to pain, to sit at computer fill in form and said she'd just fill in over the phone Very shortly they called my husband with an appointment time. Seen in Lavenham surgery at 3.15pm by a very understanding female doctor. Thorough but gentle abdo examination with correct diagnosis of acute appendicitis. Unfortunately there is nowadays no shortened route through A&E with letter for surgical registrar. You have to just join the queue in A&E for triage, then A&E registrar, then finally surgical registrar. As my GP was pretty certain of diagnosis it iseems a great shame that nowadays their expertise cannot save both patients and A&E precious time? As a practice nurse in1900s this used to be normal practice. Because of the change l was sat in waiting room chair for 18hrs with an acute abdominal pain. No fault of the surgery but the system. Eventually at 10am on 12th February pushed to theatre in wheel chair, having been seen by apologetic anaesthetist in cubicle in A&E. He apologised for lack of beds making an unusual situation for both of us. My pain was severe by this time and l was only to pleased to have reached this point . Praise for this time onwards, recovery and F4 ward. My appendix had ruptured either during being sat overnight or during appendicectomy. However with drainage bag for 2 days and antibiotics l was discharged on 14th February. Once again l thank our local surgery Receptionists and GP. Being local meant ease of seeing GP so less painful journey which of course we did eventually need to make to west Suffolk hospital.
