Review titled Fabulous (still)
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Janet - Posted on 21 July 2023
At my own request, I had a blood test to monitor my cholesterol (part of taking responsibility for my own health, which the surgery encourages). That was on Thursday 20 July at 08.50. The appointment was on time, the nurse was friendly, skilful and quick, and (as advised), I made a follow-up appointment for mid-August for the results, which were going to form part of an NHS check (weight, height, blood pressure, etc.) On Friday 21 July, just over 25 hours later, the surgery rang me. One aspect of the test was showing a borderline result. I was invited to make another appointment for 4 – 6 weeks’ time, just to check. ‘It’s absolutely nothing to worry about,’ she said. I was overwhelmed by the quality of this service: the speed of returning the blood test results (turnaround must have been less than 24 hours), the scrutiny of those results by someone who understood them, the unsolicited phone call so quickly afterwards, the invitation to make another appointment, and the very friendly and reassuring voice. I think I am so, so fortunate to be a patient at this practice. And this was not a one-off, lucky moment: this is my absolutely consistent experience of all the staff and systems at Leatside. Fantastic!

Review titled Lost hope of any help really.

Out of desperation,my partner contacted the surgery, to get me an appointment to try and discuss my chronic depression and a number of other issues leading from that, which have grown worse in the last couple of years. Apparently i didn't even qualify for a phone call from a doctor? I asked if I should at least email any of the GPS at the surgery the next day for advice, whilst speaking to who phoned me. To be told there's no point. They know what is going on already as a GP already filled them in? ( I'm not going to disclose their job role, as I know they were trying their best with what they were given. But this person as nice as they were, well, they were way out of their depth. With unfortunately meaningless comments that could have come from some cheesy motivational video. ) not sure what to do now. Feel more desperate than I did before.

Dear Patient, I am very sorry to read about your experience. If a patient informs us that they need to speak urgently with a GP then we will always give this option or signpost to another service if this is more appropriate. I would like to speak with you to understand in more detail about what happened and how we can help support you. If you can contact me with the best phone number through the following page then I will get in touch as soon as possible. https://leatside.co.uk/patient-info/complaints-compliments/ Kind regards Martin Randall General Manager

Review titled Awful Experience
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I called the surgery at 15:30 on Monday 15th May 2023 to book an emergency appointment. I waited on the phone for 23 minutes to speak to a receptionist and as I got to caller number 2 they hung up on me. As this is something to be seen to urgently, i will now have to go to A&E and waste their time on something that is not life threatening yet.

Dear Brontë, I am so sorry that the queue on the phone was so long on Monday afternoon. The phone lines are always busy after a weekend but this is an exceptionally lengthy period of time and far longer than we would usually anticipate anyone having to wait. I would like to reassure you that our receptionists would not hang up on any of our patients in the queue, however we have had reports from our IT team of intermittent drop outs on the phone lines which is being looked into. We are reviewing our phone supplier at present as part of the new NHS IT Investment and we will be moving to a new system towards the end of the year which will resolve these issues. Our patients can always come down to the surgery in person to book an appointment but I appreciate that this is not always possible when you are unwell. Once again I am sorry to hear of the wait you had last week and if you would like to discuss this further please contact me using the web form on our website. Kind regards Martin Randall General Manager
