Review titled The doctor had not arrived nor informed the surgery
by A very concerned patient - Posted on 11 January 2024
I struggled to get an appointment at Leighton Road Surgery in Leighton Buzzard, the system requires calling at 8am however I have never been less than 30 in the queue. After nearly 5 weeks, I finally managed to grab an appointment through the app. I turned up 25 minutes early and signed in at reception. 45 minutes after the allocated appointment time and over an hour of waiting and still not being seen I went to reception, only to be told the doctor had not arrived nor informed the surgery. I explained I was deeply concerned about a growing lump in my right breast, had waited over 4 weeks to get the appointment and waited an hour. The reception simply responded that they didn't know what else to suggest. I feel it is a disgrace of an organisation, that is putting peoples lives at risk though incompetence and a complete lack of care toward its patients

Review titled Bad system
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 January 2024
I’ve been suffering with a condition which causes me to feel nauseous constantly for 7 months now. A few months ago I luckily got an appointment where I was able to get 2 tests done (both which came back all clear), there has been no follow up to this. The doctor that saw me was friendly and somewhat helpful but I’m still left with no answers. I’ve attempted to use the online booking system first thing in the morning to no avail, then at 8:00am on the dot I ring the phone line. The queue is always so long that it doesn’t even give a number it just repeats “we are currently experiencing a high volume of calls at the moment”, by the time you get through there’s no appointments available. Im totally let down and fed up with this service, I feel ill at every waking moment but can’t even get a diagnosis let alone treatment. If you value your health and your time this doctors probably isn’t for you.

Review titled Waste of valuable appointments
by Sue582 - Posted on 15 January 2024
I tried for two days to book a doctor appointment but I couldn’t get a doctors appointment so they gave me a nurse's appointment. The nurse diagnosed me with sinusitis but couldn’t give me a sick note. I have now tried to get a sick note, but again I cannot get a doctor's appointment for this. Why do you let nurses give diagnosis without giving them the authority to issue sick note? No wonder nobody can get doctors appointments. This really doesn’t seem time effective Surely this is just a waste of another doctors appointment

Review titled Trying to get an appointment.
by Whitetop - Posted on 01 December 2023
Every time I try to get an appointment I am told by the receptionist, we have none, or you can phone in the morning and become no 32 in a queue - your call is important to us - (how many times do I tell these people I am very hard of hearing, I have to wear hearing aids, I can’t do telephone conversations. ]Or if there is a slot it’s normally at least a month away, I have now a very sinister looking mole on my leg come up in a week, I would like it checked out before I am told it’s too late. Feels like this happens every time I walk in that doctors.

Review titled Fantastic Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Karen Dignum - Posted on 19 October 2023
I used the new e consult today , I made a complete mess of the form but a lovely lady phoned me to clarify what I needed , she then booked me a telephone call with the doctor this afternoon to discuss my concerns around my elderly father. The gp called as promised a plan was put in place and the appropriate medication collected before 4 today… Can’t thank the staff enough .. keep up the great work

Review titled Let down by treatment
by bedel31 - Posted on 18 September 2023
Had an appointment with GP regarding my foot. I got to the surgery on time for my appointment but while waiting for my turn, a name was called but no one answered, until I realised it might have been my name mispronouced. I know sometime it is difficult to pronounce my name but this time it was not even closed to the right pronunciation. Anyway, I went to see the doctor and try to clarify if it was me they were calling. I was sent back to the waiting room and not in a friendly way. Finally after a phone call to confirm it was me, I got to see the doctor who quickly diagnosed my problem and treated my problem by printing pages of instructions from some website. I thought a doctor's job was to deal with human being. I feel they did not show any compassion,or kindness. I am in my 50s and rarely visit a doctor, I was expecting to be thoroughly examined. As I left the office I felt so let down by the system and the people working for the service. I lost trust and confidence in professionel health care system. No reasons can justify to be treated that way. This time there will be no clapping for the NHS staff.

Review titled Telephone response
by Annoyed65 - Posted on 26 June 2023
You have forgotten to switch off the message that says you have staff training between 1 and 2 p.m. today. So no one can get through. Why hasn’t anyone at the surgery’s noticed how quiet its been?

Review titled Closed for Staff Training
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 June 2023
Drove to Leighton Road surgery to leave repeat prescription but found the surgery closed with a note on the door that 'we are closed for staff training'. Drove to the other surgery at Grovebury Road only to find the same situation. Surgery's own website shows both sites as being open with no mention of being closed. To rub salt into the wounds there is a message (20/06/2023) on the website saying that turnaround times for repeat prescriptions is now 7 (working) days rather than the 3 (working) days it has been up to now. I had already noticed that it was taking longer to turn these around hence my (wasted) attempt to take the repeat prescription in earlier than I normally would. Why is there no information on the website to advise patients of this closure due to staff training at both sites - surely this should be straight-forward to do and would reduce patient frustrations by simple communication of what I assume was a planned event.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we apologise for the inconvenience this caused you on the day in question. The Surgery website will be reviewed and updated accordingly to advise our patients of the closure on Tuesday's. This closure happens weekly to allow our staff to complete training as required but we will ensure this is more visible on our website. In regards to the prescription turnaround time, this is due to staffing levels and our Lead Pharmacist for the East London Foundation Trust Primary Care Directorate is working on to address. We hope to onboard a new pharmacist in the coming months and we are addressing gaps in our prescription clerk team. We are also working with our PCN (Leighton-Linslade Health Connections) to support us in this area where appropriate.

Review titled Vastly improving
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 29 July 2023
Having had to use the practice multiple times in the last couple of months it’s encouraging to see the service really improving. Appointments for phone call assessments seem easier to get and follow up physical appointments are available if necessary. Referrals to outside medical services are prompt and in my case have resulted in much quicker hospital responses.A new text system giving some information of blood test results has reducing the need for phone calls to the surgery . It’s a hard time for medical services but it is obvious that the practice is working to improve the service they provide. I’ve been very relieved by the professionalism of my last few appointments.

Review titled Slow and late communication between hospitals and GP Surgery
by Juan23 - Posted on 25 September 2023
My feedback is regarding the poor communication of medical information between hospitals and GP surgery. I have had three operations for cancer since November 2022, each time I receive a letter through the post, they don't appear on my patient's record. I have sent copies by email and taken them into the surgery personally and asked for them to be added. My wife attended Dermatology in July 2023. As a result, a new medication regime was recommended by the consultant. After numerous attempts to get the new medication at the GP clinic, the letter from the consultant is still not on her records and her prescriptions have not been updated. I wrote an online prescription request after requesting the dermatology clinic to send me the letter by email. Given the high tech world we live in today, there must be a better way for hospitals to update patient records at the GP surgery other than letters send by email or post?
