  1. Review titled Really bad practice

Really bad experience with the surgery. I rang the surgery at half 8 and by the time I got through, all the appointments had gone. They told me that there was nothing they can do and that I had to call 111 if I wanted to be seen. I have an ear infection. I’m not calling 111 for an ear infection. A prescription or phone call would have been enough but this surgery can’t even provide that.

  2. Review titled Excellent practice

I have nothing but praise for Longlevens surgery since I joined it approximately 30 years ago. The doctors and other medical staff, nurses, and reception staff all provide an excellent, caring service . I have always found the reception staff to be friendly and helpful, and there is a good system of triaging, with the doctors or non-medical prescribers being quick to return a call and decide on the most suitable course of action. I was very poorly recently and called 111. As it was a Sunday, I was told a doctor from the surgery would call me the next morning. I received that call at 8.30am the following day and was asked to attend the surgery the same morning. I had blood taken straight away where it was confirmed that I had a bacterial infection with a very high infection level and risk of sepsis. Following consultation with another doctor and a call to the hospital, I was immediately sent to the Emergency Department at GRH. Medical treatment at the hospital was swift as another blood test showed my infection marker had doubled. They confirmed pneumonia and sepsis due to the severe bacterial infection. I owe Longlevens surgery a debt of gratitude for their swift action that morning. Any delay may very well have meant a much worse outcome for me. My sincere thanks to all involved.

  3. Review titled Treatment ( or lack of it )

by Nom de pen ,,,, Mr frustrated - Posted on 27 March 2023

Right now stress levels are through the roof ! My doctor couldn't give a call back till 2 weeks time so I called 111 instead. I requested that they withhold recording my info for privacy and after going through the rigmarole of 111 finally received a phone call 2 hours later by a clinician . Next morning the pharmacy rang me to ask what they could do for me so asked about my enquiry to which they could offer no advice but more importantly I asked how they got my number to which they replied 111 NHS sent it to them , so much for not sharing my data great GDPR. Anyhow nearly a week later the problem got worse so I rang the hospital and asked if an appointment could be made to attend a clinic and have the problem looked at and fixed to which I was told I must get my doctor to make a referral ! Bear with me it gets better . So I then called back to the doctors and waited patiently at number 10 in the queue to finally speak with the receptionist who wouldn't get a doctor to call me back until I explained the issue. I explained the whole rigmarole only to be told they don't do referrals . Undeterred I called the hospital back and was advised go to A and E to which I said aren't they under pressure? The only option was A and E so I asked the best time to come with least waiting and fuss. They then told me at that point 98 people where in A and E with an average wait time of 9 hours , so much for my forethought - at that rate they would still be there at 4:00 in the morning. On their advice I decided to call the walk in surgery who were obviously experiencing high call volumes and were very short staffed due to coronavirus , bizarrely it was 2023 . Success, I finally found a doctor who would call me back in two days . Let's hope the doctor doesn't cancel like my NHS dentist has done on the last three occasions and put me further down the queue. You couldn't make it up but sadly it is true. It saddening to think that this country is part of the developed world and a Uber rich economy.

Ran out of medication, I'm usually pretty organised on reordering, but not on this occasion. Dropped an urgent request to surgery, was sorted within an hour. The receptionist I spoke to on Friday evening to check progress with, was warm, helpful and extremely personable, I was extremely impressed and grateful, I didn't get your name, but you are doing a great job, my name is Helen Hale, thank you for your brilliant service and lovely manner, I too work for a, GP Practice, you are a credit to the surgery
