  1. Review titled Useless e-consult

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Vic Hansen - Posted on 15 November 2022

The e-consult system used by marine lake is worse than useless. It is hidden in the 'appointments' section, so impossible to find without guidance and, when it is used, it seems to serve no useful function. The entry point is by disease name, rather than symptom or body part, which means the patient needs to know what is wrong with them before starting. e.g., there is no entry for 'chest pain' so one has to go in via 'coughing', 'cold or flu', or 'breathing problems'. In the case of my e-consult session this morning, I ended up filling in a questionnaire detailing the issues I was experiencing and what I wanted/expected and, at the end received a message that e-consult could not help. I had to close e-consult. I was informed that I should seek medical advice by phoning the surgery. The information I had entered was discarded. The surgery would not be informed and would not contact me. I then telephoned the surgery and had to repeat this information to a human who, presumably, had to record the same information again and arrange for a doctor to contact me. This process was quick and efficient, so I am happy with the human response at this level. I would expect a modern computer system in this area to perform at least an initial classification by symptom, to capture all information supplied, to identify urgent problems and provide this to whoever does the triage. Could do (much) better.

  2. Review titled Requests from carer of disabled patient ignored

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Petra Frances Mann - Posted on 08 September 2022

On two occasions I verbally informed Marine Lake Medical Practice that my sister who is deaf was unable to answer telephone calls to her mobile. I, her carer, therefore instructed that my mobile number be added to the medical notes, her mobile number removed and that I should always be contacted. Despite these requests the medical notes were not updated and GPs continued to ring my sister's mobile phone before sending text messages to say because she had failed to answer the call she would have to resubmit requests via E-Consult. These errors led to my sister waiting for almost three weeks before she saw a GP face to face for severe back and leg pain resulting in sleepless nights and restricted mobility. Disabled patients have enough to contend with and deserve a better service.

  3. Review titled Poor Service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Mr Pitt - Posted on 12 August 2022

The practice hasn't invested sufficiently in its administration or ability to handle older patients. Requiring them to use online only services alienates the older generations who need the service the most. This means that I travel 225 miles each way to help due to the poor support infrastructure. Not good enough really. The care shown by the doctors is great but due to this lack of care prior to getting this stage let's the entire practice and NHS down

  4. Review titled No NHS App support

Rated 2 stars out of 5

This surgery has massive wait times on the phone and for appointments even when they have lots of GP's and Nurse practitioners. They do not support the NHS App electronic facilities fully which increases all of the above. When contacted they can be dismissive of the needs of the patient. I understand Covid put great strain on the NHS but this surgery seems to be using this as an excuse for very poor service. E.g. Prescription enquiries for 2 hours a day only on a network that takes an hour to get through, the inability to get the NHS App log on number and not being able to order repeat prescriptions on the App.
