Review titled Non functional.
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Alex Wade - Posted on 20 June 2023
Prior to the Covid 19 pandemic this was a decent GP practice. Since then it has become non functional because it’s simply impossible to make an appointment. I damaged my achilles tendon where it joins to my heel six weeks ago. It’s agony and I can’t bear to walk more than a short distance. The receptionist at Maylands, who has, I suspect, zero medical training, ‘screened me out’ and told me that my GP wouldn’t see me for that condition. They told me to go to an NHS Urgent Treatment Centre. I did this, and after waiting three hours I saw a Doctor there. He examined me and confirmed my injury, but said that this was totally a condition that my GP should deal with and never something for an Urgent Treatment Centre. An ongoing chronic condition rather than an emergency care issue. He said that I need to be referred to a Podiatrist, but that my GP must do that. Back to square 1! It’s impossible to make an appointment at Maylands. They’re so unhelpful that they as well not be there.

Review titled Worrying Developments

I phoned at 8am to book an apt and was answered at 8.04am. I was offered an apt at 9.30, but unfortunately was not a time I was able to make. I asked why all apts had gone in 4 mins and was told only 2 doctors on duty and all had been pre-booked. I asked if I could pre-book and was informed none were available. I then asked whether I would be able to get an apt tomorrow if I phoned and was told unlikely as only 1 doctor on duty! However, if I came down to the surgery at 8am I could book one then. Why are people coming down to the surgery able to book while those who phone (as per website guidelines for making an apt) can’t. This is a very large group practice and it is extremely concerning that only 1 or 2 doctors are only duty.

Dear Patient I apologise that the appointment you were offered was not suitable. Unfortunately, appointments get booked up quickly either via the appointment line, patients coming in to the practice or by booking electronically on the website. I think there may have been a miscommunication, we have an on call emergency doctor daily and 2 advanced nurse practitioners to deal with on the day emergencies, the other clinicians in the practice would have been booked in advance and therefore, not available to book into them on the day. If you wish to discuss this further, please contact the practice on 01708 460180 and ask to speak to Ruth. Kind regards Ruth (Practice Manager)

Phoned today at 8am for an apt. Got through at 8.04am. Only one apt left which unfortunately I was unable to make. Asked why all apts had gone 4 mins after lines opened and told only 2 doctors working and they had all been pre-booked. Asked If could then pre-book for another day and was told nothing was available! I asked if I would be able to get an apt if I phoned tomorrow and was told probably not as only 1 Doctor on duty! However, they suggested it was better to come down as I would be able to book that way? Why are people turning up at the surgery able to book yet those who phone (this is way surgery asks you to book apts on its website) are told none available. This is a very large group practice and I don’t understand why there is only 1 or 2 doctors on duty.

Thank you so much to the GP who I saw earlier in the year who will not know but they actually saved my life. I am eternally grateful. Even the simple fact that my situation was believed by them in the first place made all the difference. Thank you to all the other staff there who are also very kind and helpful. Wishing you all a very happy new year

Review titled Brilliant service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Peter Beeson - Posted on 21 March 2023
Phoned the surgery yesterday (20th March 2023), concerned that I may have an infection from a surgery procedure from 3 weeks ago. Albeit I was held in a queue for 20 minutes, I explained my predicament to a very helpful understanding receptionist who then suggested I get this examined ASAP, she then arranged for me to see a nurse that evening (21.15) at the Rosewood Medical Centre. I went early (21.00) expecting a long wait, the receptionist was a pleasant, efficient lady who checked me in and asked me to take a seat. Within 5 mins of arrival a doctor/ nurse invited me in to the room, inspected the wound and prescribed a course of antibiotics, he then informed me the pharmacy at Maylands was open until 10.30 that evening. I went to Maylands, collected my prescription, again from a very polite friendly pharmacist, who also informed me my prescriptions are free due to me being over 60…..how can anyone receiving this sort of service have nothing but respect for our NHS and for the people who work within it….thank you (one very happy, appreciative, patient)

Review titled Not as good as it used to be
Rated 2 stars out of 5

I've been trying to do a online consultation but it is saying the practice is not doing these at the moment. I've phoned many times to no avail, so I went down there and spoke to the receptionist who told me the phones were working phone. I tried phoning again infront of the receptionist and nothing, the phone didnt ring their end. When I asked why the receptionist replied " oh that's strange".

Review titled Amazing GP
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have been registered with Maylands for over 20 years and can say I have actually noticed a huge change since Covid in the special care, treatment and support from my current gp at the practice. She goes out of her way to ensure I get regular appointments and reviews, is sympathetic and always listens to everything that is concerning me in my life as a whole which obviously massively impacts stress levels and overall health. I cannot speak more highly of this GP and also the friendly and understanding reception staff. Sometimes people can find it hard to get appointments, however this is unfortunately the case in more recent times due to resources available not being able to keep up with demand for the service. Also I know that many people book and do not turn up to, or arrive late for appointments therefore making it harder for people who really need to be seen.

I completed EConsult on Monday morning , received text acknowledgement in the afternoon. Received call from practice on Tuesday with an appointment for next day (weds). GP was lovely and explained everything to me, my treatment plan was clear which really made me feel a lot better and optimistic about my recovery. Prescription mailed to pharmacy. I'm very happy.

Review titled Never get an appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Stephen - Posted on 23 March 2023
The last 4 times I have needed to make an appointment to see a doctor I have had no success and had to resort to 111 or A&E or just not be treated, I ring at 8.00am as they tell you to do, when you finally get through at about 9.00am if your lucky you then get told to ring back tomorrow at 8.00am, you then get told to queue outside the surgery at 8.00am if you need an appointment which I cannot do as I start work at 8.00am (ironically for the NHS). Why can you only book a appointment for that day and not in advance later in the week can the reception staff not handle a diary for more than one day at a time. Then everyone wonders why A&E's are so busy, no wonder when you cannot get an appointment at your doctors surgery. I am already looking for another surgery that has compassion for their patients and can handle an appointment system that can cope with appointments for more than one day.

E consult completed at 8am and call at 10am from surgery. Next available appointment booked with chosen GP. Extremely helpful receptionist who did her best to accommodate my needs. Very positive experience on this occasion. Surgery staff are working under very difficult circumstances of which they have no control.
