Got in for an appointment on the morning and happened to see the same doctor as at my last appointment. Extremely helpful and really listened to my concerns. Left feeling reassured.

Review titled Reception Staff Ask Confidential Medical Questions
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 01 May 2023
I have been a patient at Monkfield Medical Practice for several years now, and I have always been happy with the service. However, I was recently extremely disappointed when they removed their online booking system and replaced it with a manual appointment booking system. Not only is the manual system more time-consuming and inconvenient for patients, but I have also had several negative experiences with the reception staff. When trying to book an appointment, I have been asked personal medical-related questions before being allowed to see the doctor. I find this invasion of privacy unacceptable and unnecessary. The reception staff seem to be digging into personal medical issues which are confidential to the patient and doctor. Moreover, the reception staff seem much more interested in avoiding booking appointments than helping patients. I have had experiences where they would inquire into my health concerns and try to dissuade me from booking an appointment. This behavior is unprofessional and unacceptable. In addition to being intrusive and unhelpful, the reception staff's behavior is concerning from a privacy standpoint. Confidentiality is an essential aspect of medical care, and patients should be able to trust that their personal information is being handled with the utmost care and professionalism. The whole process of booking an appointment has become much more difficult and frustrating since the online system was removed. The reception staff seem overworked and stressed, and the wait times on the phone are excessively long. I feel that it is important to warn anyone moving into the Cambourne area that they should not expect good service from Monkfield Medical Practice. The new manual system is inconvenient and time-consuming, and the reception staff's behavior is unprofessional and concerning for privacy. Overall, I am very unhappy with the service at Monkfield Medical Practice since the removal of the online booking system. I would not recommend this practice to anyone seeking medical care

Thank you for taking the time out to provide feedback on the Practice, we are very open to listening to patient feedback and identifying areas for change if appropriate. I would like to provide some feedback on the points you raise. Our on line booking system was suspended during the COVID pandemic to manage safely the spread of infection to patients and staff to ensure delivery of our service continued. Online access to booking appointments was switched back on in December 2022, as per articles provided on our website and facebook site. Coupled with this you have the ability to book via various apps including the NHS app. More recently we have also put on our website a tool where you can submit enquires including medical needs direct into the practice https://florey.accurx.com/p/D81637 I am sorry you feel your experience is a negative one, the role of receptionists is one of the most difficult positions in the practice. They are given responsibility and training in sign posting patients to the right place for the presenting condition as not every need requires a GP appointment. We do have a skilled multi-disciplinary team in the practice alongside our community colleagues who also can help patients to manage their needs www.cpics.org.uk/well-together We ask our receptionists to take as much information as possible as this helps all acute needs to be triaged by our Acute Duty Team. They are also trained to protect patients’ right to confidentiality. In 2023, there are 2000 fewer GPs in England than 2015, with 470 GPs leaving the profession in the last year alone. We have fewer than 42 GPs for every 100,000 patients across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, yet 1 in 2 people see their GP team each month. For this very reason we have to triage and sign post appropriately. We agree if you attend the front desk for appointments, and cannot disclose your medical need confidentially, we would invite you to inform us in other ways, by calling or booking on line or to be taken in to a private area to allow disclosure. We monitor telephone wait times throughout the day to allocate resources when able. Our reception staff are answering questions and queries all day long, however we also support and monitor their welfare. I am sorry you feel like this, I can assure you those working within the NHS never intend to make patients feel this was and we do provide a full program of training. Please do feel able to discuss this further with me and I can help you to navigate the system to suit your needs. Hannah Crisford, Practice Manager Email: h.crisford@nhs.net Tel: 01954 282 460
