Review titled Nice Staff
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 05 November 2024
I've been coming to Nettleham surgery for a very long time. Staff are nice and are doing the best they can. They seem to have some new doctors now which is good. I had a nurse appointment recently and saw a new scottish nurse - and she was brilliant! Only thing they need to sort now is more car parking spaces.

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review for the practice; it is much appreciated. I will pass on your comments to the whole practice team. We are limited what we can do in relation to car parking spaces as we have utilised all of the land on the practice site to provide as many spaces as possible but we do regularly have conversations about the car park.

Review titled Disappointed new patient

Ask my Gp system is a poor system , I feel like I'm having to fight for an appointment every time I want one . As a social care shift worker who has a limited window each day to get in for an appointment it's an horrendous system. I am used to calling in first thing at 8am and getting the gp of my choice , with multiple health conditions consistency is key . Wish I could change surgery but all seem to stick to strict boundaries. My most recent response was you need to go to utc !! Again not realistic to waste my working day

I am sorry to hear that you find the AskMyGP system poor. All requests for an appointment are triaged by a GP so that patients are seen based on their clinical need rather than being dependent on the time the patient requested the appointment. The practice does have appointments available to 8pm every Thursday evening and is open on a Saturday between 9.00 - 5.00pm approximately every 5-6 weeks and patients can express their preference for appointment times within their request. If the GP feels that you require a same day appointment and the clinics at the practice are already full, they may suggest that you attend the UTC, in order for you to be seen. As you have submitted this request anonymously, it is difficult to address anything more specific but you could write to me at the practice if you would like me to look in your specific case. You can visit the following website - https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-gp and it will advise you which GP practices cover your postcode. Best wishes, Practice Manager

Review titled Failing service

I waited three weeks for an urgent appointment and then on the morning of the appointment the phone rang, my appointment cancelled. The next available appointment is another three weeks time. I will have to delay my holiday in order to take the appointment. If not, another week of waiting.

I am sorry to hear that your appointment was cancelled. The practice has experienced a high level sickness absences over the last few weeks amongst the clinicians and unfortunately it has meant that some appointments have had to be cancelled at short notice. All request to see a clinician are triaged by a GP and if they had felt that you needed to be seen more urgently, they would have arranged for you to have had an appointment the same day. As you have submitted the review anonymously, I am unable to contact you to try and offer help so if you feel that you need a sooner appointment, please submit a request via the AMGP system and the GP will assess. I am sorry to hear that you feel the practice is not meeting your expectations at the moment. It is difficult for me to respond fully as you have submitted the post anonymously so we are unable to make contact with you directly to try and help you. If you are still having problems with the medication that has been prescribed, then you do need to contact us so that a clinician can consider an alternative. You can get in touch with us via AskMyGP (which opens at 6:00am) each day, via the telephone or by visiting one of the practice sites. Once we have had contact with you, we will be able to offer help and support.

Review titled Standard of Care
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Francis Green - Posted on 03 June 2023
Why is this practice accepting new patients' when they cannot manage their existing workload? I have waited over 6 weeks for a GP appointment and was only able to request an appointment via an email system (AskMyGP) The nominating of a GP to a patient is regrettable as my nominated GP wouldn't know me if I met him in the street. Doctors continue to encourage us to report early issues as the probable outcome is generally much better, and indeed hospital are duty bound to see patients' with suspected cancer in 2 weeks. In this practice I can't see a GP for over 6 weeks, how does that work? When they have too many requests they just shut down the AskMyGP. i.e. email system. This standard of care is putting patients' at risk and it is sad to see how the NHS primary care has diminished over the years. The days of having a family Doctor who knows your medical conditions are long gone.

Dear Mr Green, I am sorry to hear that you had to wait 6 weeks for your recent routine GP appointment. All requests to see a clinician are triaged by a GP for their urgency and then we arrange the appointment based on that urgency. If the GP feels that the patient requires seeing that day, those patients are offered an appointment for that same day. Due to having a higher than usual number of these urgent for the same day issues recently, we have had a backlog for patients with non-urgent issues being seen which unfortunately had led briefly to the 6 week wait as you experienced, but we have been working very hard on this as a practice over the last couple of months and the timescale is now coming down. We are continuing to work on this and hope to have the wait time to around 2 weeks for non-urgent appointments over the coming weeks. We have had to close the AskMyGP online portal early on some days for patient safety issues as demand far exceeded capacity, but when we do this our receptionists still speak to patients on the phone and arrange urgent appointments or redirect patients to other emergency services if needed. The closing of a practice list for new patients does have wider implications on services for patients and is not permitted by NHS England unless there are severe capacity issues over a prolonged period of time. As I’m sure you are aware from the media, the NHS as a whole is going through a difficult time at the moment and general practices are not excluded from this. All of the doctors and the staff at the practice are working very hard to provide the best care to the patients with current resources available, and it's through making patients with less urgent issues wait a bit longer we've been able to ensure that urgent issues can be dealt with quickly, but we're still sorry for the long waits for routine appointments this has caused. Review titled What on earth is going on at the moment
Rated 3 stars out of 5

As prr the title. Very limited hours askmygp is open, nigh on impossible to get through on the phone, can be No1 in the queue for 5 mins then get hung up on. Cherry surgery is barely utilised. Normally the service is top notch and lve always thought it was brilliant, the last month however has been dire unfortunately. People want/need to know the reason so they can understand why it is happening which makes people a lot more tolerant. Put a notice on the website, if docs have left or whatever the reason just say as social media is going bonkers about it now. I do apologise as l know how hard the guys work and its not their fault.

We are sorry for your recent difficulties contacting the practice. We are aware that telephones have been taking longer for us to answer recently and this has been due to the sheer volume of calls that the practice is experiencing. On a Monday for example the practice receives on average approximately 600 phone calls. The practice has also had some GP sickness recently which does impact the availability of appointments and which has resulted in the AskMyGP service having to close when the practice has received more requests that we have capacity for. This is for patient safety reasons. We are hopeful that now that we have got through the numerous bank holidays in April & May and provided we have no excessive GP sickness absences, that the AskMyGP service will be able to remain open for longer in the coming weeks ahead. Cherry Willingham Surgery is still open every weekday morning from 8:00 – 12:30pm and there is a GP working there along with one or two members of the nursing team on each day. There have unfortunately been several days over the last month when we have had to close the Cherry Willingham Surgery on the day due to having an intermittent fault in the IT connection which serves the computers and telephones. The NHS IT team have now been out several times to repair the fault and we are hopeful that this will not happen again going forward. I hope that this provides some clarity for you regarding the points you raised, and hope that you will find things back to normal when you next need us.

Review titled Excellent practice

Recently needed help for my son and was given first class, prompt service. Got an appointment later the same day and saw a lovely new GP who showed genuine concern and went out of her way to do everything she could for us. I have been with this surgery for 20 years and have always found it excellent.
