  1. Review titled Unhelpful and dismissive receptionist on a power trip

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I have called this GP practice twice in the past month for an appointment. First, there's the panic and anxiety of the '8 am scramble'. When you get through, you are asked, "Is it urgent?" Well, no, if it were urgent, then I would be at A&E, wouldn't I? What a pointless question to ask. Next, you are asked to give details of your condition. In this particular case, I was enquiring about my young son, whose condition was not sensitive. However, if it was sensitive, then I would find this kind of questioning highly inappropriate from a non-clinical member of staff. The receptionist was dismissive and unconvinced that he needed an appointment and tried to push me towards other options. None of which were appropriate as he needed to be seen to get a clinical diagnosis. One which would be recorded on his medical record. After what felt like going on trial, she grudgingly gave me an appointment. It is disappointing that patients have to make their case in this way for a GP appointment. I understand you are using care navigation to 'guide' patients. However, this is counterproductive, as patients will realise and exaggerate their symptoms. Why are patients being made to feel this way? That we're untrustworthy, a burden, and inconveniencing the admin staff. Please have some respect and dignity for patients who may be vulnerable, scared, and anxious. The whole experience left me feeling frustrated. This is a shame because the GP we saw was fantastic. However, the receptionist's poor attitude made the overall experience worse than it needed to be. Please save me your textbook response of "We are sorry to hear about your recent experience and understand how frustrating it can feel when you're seeking care and don’t feel supported." I want to know what you're going to do to change this behaviour.

I am a young patient with a long term condition resulting in chronic pain as a result of numerous surgeries Not only do I always get seen when I medically need to but the service is so fast and effective J*de and s*njid* communication skills are brilliant you care about your patients and your compassion shows nothing is ever too much you have made my darkest days that bit easier M S h*hid unfortunately for him deals with my appointments not only does he listen to me but he also communicates effectively and ensures I am okay The GPs have always provided me with safe effective treatment and care so much so that specialists involved have never had a issue with joining care with my GP I am really grateful and when you are dealing with ill health kindness and effective care in a timely manner is vital Thank you

You are diagnosed by receptionist over the phone which is so rude. she is ending you back to pharmacy where I been already and they do not can help me any more . Over the phone she was able DiAGNOSE me I got a virus because is around. They should change name to Hogwart. Wizards and fairies in bed be place . No way to get help from this place. My daughter been told few times by NUrSE, because you have to own "privilege ticket "to see a doctor, she is going refer her to physio...and never did it. When you need help better is to go straight to E&a than try with them.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your recent experience and understand how frustrating it can feel when you're seeking care and don’t feel supported. We’d like to clarify that our reception team is not diagnosing patients but is instead trained to use care navigation to guide patients to the most appropriate services for their needs. This helps ensure that patients receive timely and effective care, whether that’s through a pharmacist, physiotherapist, nurse, or GP. We recognize that your visit to the pharmacy may not have resolved your concerns, and we regret if this caused any distress. Had we known that symptoms persisted after trying one service, we aim to reassess and find the next best option.
