not a great review about a appointment this is the 2nd time dissatisfied with the surgery this year. previously i had been told my back pain was just due to getting old and told to refer to a physio after being given the wrong number to do this and after a self referal to a physio i was diagnosed with a slipped disc not being old! i was only 40 at the time! today i was refused an appointment by a doctor after asking for one online due to extremely painfull knee which i ve had for a week already, which is affecting everyday life as can't get about. was told as i'd been to urgent care they'd see me in 2 weeks yet was offered an appointment in 4 weeks time, dispite that I explained still in alot of pain it's affecting everyday life and urgent care did not x ray or examine the knee just asked me some questions and sent me on my way explaining due to being asthmatic can't supply pain relief erc (there other other medications available that won't affect asthma)so as I felt this was wrong and I am in pain I called 111 as worried damaging the knee more as no advice erc even on care the 111 was suprised id been refused a appointment based on already been to urgent care as still in pain and that doctor had refused to give medication at least based on being asthmatic they said never heard of this as a reason. they informed me the gp should not refuse to see me this week and booked me a phone appointment with my gp and gave the advice i haven't been given from the doctor in urgent care. very disappointed oakfield while I understand the sugary is busy and nhs is under strain refusing to see a patient in pain knowing it's affecting everyday life exspecting them to wait 4 weeks while could be damaging the injury more in that time!

Review titled Triage Telephone appointment.
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Austic Advocate - Posted on 15 October 2024
Unfortunately there are people in the community including my son who are unable to access primary care at this surgery. This may be due to disability, old age, or frailty. Since April 2024 people have not been able to access telephone appointments directly but are funneled online instead. This may be ok for the majority but what about the people who can't do this for themselves? The receptionist staff are the gate keepers here and it is at their discretion whether they will assist and make an online request on behalf of patients'. I tried today 15th October to use the online system myself and it is very frustrating to use. Particularly when the system crashes whilst using it. I nearly got to end of a online request and it would not upload pictures then the whole thing crashes. So you have to start the whole process again. There is no system in place for the people who can't access the online portal. Other than a phone call to the surgery. Then to be told you have to use the the online request. When you can't and are genuinely ill is annoying. I can't understand why there is no provision here only the discretion of the receptionist staff who definitely seem very reluctant to help or who don't believe patients who say they can't manage to use the online system. The only alternative is to actually visit the surgery to make an appointment in person. But this may be in practical for many people.

Review titled The best I have had
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Angel - Posted on 25 July 2024
I have moved around for my adult life and when I tell.you I regret I'm leaving the gp. Nothing was a bother and in a swift time frame. If I move different boroughs can I stay still? I sincerely wouldn't want to leave. I can not comprehend the one star reviews. From the fact they have a specialist mental health practitioner is an exclusive thing to have by the sounds of it ( me researching other closer gps) and again nothing was too much. From weight loss programs to referrals etc. The only down side was there are little confusion with reception staff but nothing they wouldn't correct and go beyond and the fact that I was in an accident but wasn't reported on my medical history when requested etc but hey. It's all about that human touch, and they have that. Thank you for the short time I was here. I could say a lot me but I won't but I'm sure you get the jist.

Review titled What are you doing?????
Rated 1 star out of 5

While I will be the first to appreciate being able to book advanced appointments online I don't understand why when I phone the practice I am told to go on google and search for the online booking form as we no longer take bookings over the phone! Why aren't we able to access online bookings through the NHS app. I found this extremely stressful and can only imagine how your elderly patients are going to deal with this 'new' way of booking. when I finally found the form I had to answer several questions on why I needed to see a GP all whilst trying to do my own job. If an urgent on the day appointment was needed can see why a triage system is beneficial but not advanced bookings. While I fully understand that as patients we are never happy with doctor's appointment availability as someone that is on both sides of general practice this system seems particularly difficult and long winded.

I had the need to contact the surgery this morning. Answered by the most helpful, patience, and compassionate receptionist every. Went above and beyond making sure I knew what/how to do things, call back with an appointment that morning. Outstanding care. Also seen by the ANP as always very informative consultation, this person is extremely knowledgeable and gives brilliant advice. Oakfield Surgery excellent job and a huge thank you

Review titled Ignorant of NHS rules
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Miranda Matthews - Posted on 13 February 2024
I rang this practice constantly from 8am to 9am but could not get through at all. When I did, later, I was told there were no appointments left that day. I had an acute bladder infection and was in severe pain. The practice told me to go to a particular pharmacy a 15 minute bus ride away where I could get a prescription for an antibiotic. I felt very ill and am sole carer for my husband who has terminal cancer and needs 24 hour care at the moment, but desperate for treatment, I followed their advice. When I got to the chemist, they asked my date of birth and then informed me that I was too late: they only prescribe for young and middle aged people - at 65 I am too old - by six months - to get the medication I need. By now in tears and great pain, I rang the surgery to be told they had no idea about this rule. They then offered me an appointment with their nurse (they had never mentioned or offered this before, why?) so back to the surgery again and saw a nurse who told me all about the terrible life they all have working for the NHS. When you feel so dreadful and have been messed about for hours, it's not easy to have to worry about the poor surgery instead....sometimes one feels one must have got ill on purpose to annoy the staff here. Anyway, four hours after first attempt, I got a prescription and then back off to a chemist again....my husband had been left alone far too long but thank goodness he had not had a crisis.

Review titled Fantastic surgery
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Marieke Richardson - Posted on 11 March 2023
Oakfield Surgery have been absolutely fantastic. My husband and I called to get and appointment because we have been living in a damp and mouldy flat and were concerned about our health. We were seen by lovely Doctors the same day we called for an appointment and have both been referred for an Chest X-Ray to put our minds at rest. All the receptionists were very helpful on the phone and in the surgery too. They have a great Practice Manager. Thank you all for your brilliant service and care we have received. Much appreciated.
