  2. Review titled Not good service

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 July 2024

Ring to ask for an appointment and get told it’s a 4-6 weeks waiting list!! I don’t think this is good enough and I understand that the surgery / doctors are busy but they have a duty of care to their patients and I feel like this isn’t happening when I want to try and get to the end of certain issues I’m having ! Not a happy patient !!

  3. Review titled Great service on a day that the surgery was short staffed

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rob Harwood - Posted on 29 May 2024

I feel compelled to write about the service I recieved from the surgery yesterday (Wednesday 28/05/14). I had a physio appointment (not at the surgery) and the physiotherapist advised me to ask for a GP appointment. It was late morning by the time I phoned the surgery. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly, but unfortunately had no more appointments tht morning. After explaining my problem, she agreed I probably needed to see a GP. She advised ringing at 2pm, when more appointments would be available, she apologised and advised that the surgery was critically short of staff due to sickness. I called back again at 2pm and spoke to another very helpful and friendly receptionist, and was given an appointment at St Peters Surgery at the end of the day. Two minutes after I put the phone down I recieved a call from the Surgery. The receptionist I spoke to in the morning called me back to check I'd got an appointment. The hard working receptionists are the front line for the Surgery, often abused by abusive and bullying patients. The Surgery was obviously suffering a critical day in terms of staff availabilty, due to sickness. The receptionists remained, polite, friendly, helpful and professional. In my experience today they were exemplary in the service they provided. This is the norm at the Old Fire Station Surgery, and I applaud and thank them for it. Again, regarding my experience here, the Practice management showed proactive management in action. Because of the critical staff shortage the practice bought spare appointments from other surgeries that day, ensuring continuity of care. Thank you to all the front line staff, the management, and of course the clinical staff and GP's for the excellent care and professionalism they show to us the patients, day in day out. You are appreciated by the vast majority of patients. Well done all of you.

  4. Review titled Poor Service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Daniel Hawkes - Posted on 25 April 2024

Following on from ongoing treatment from a back issue, I have been taking a regular medication of a controlled drug. I am slowing reducing the medication but for some unknown reason its been changed from a months dose to a two week dose. We all know it takes a while to get a prescription authorized but having to call every two weeks as I'm about to run out of my medication is a joke. On multiple occasions I have requested my medication to be changed back to a 4 week dose and not a two week to prevent all this time waisted. This current prescription I have called in now 4 times over the last few days while writing this to get it authorized as I run out of my medication tomorrow. I submitted my prescription request on Sunday and today being Thursday its still not authorized (I keep being told I need to submit 7 days before I run out which is hard when I cant submit a request earlier than I have due to it not letting me. I fully understand you have a staff shortage and that causes a backlog but at the same time the staff shortage has been going on since I joined the doctors. Im more frustrated as each time I have contacted and tried to change my dose duration it gets forgotten or ignored and am left im the same situation every two weeks trying to fight to get medication I need. Just for context if I do not take my medication I go through sever withdrawal symptoms and would not be able to go to work.

  5. Review titled Excellent Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Robert Arthur Bax - Posted on 12 March 2024

Had an excellent appointment with my GP to discuss my risk of having Vascular Dementia. GP reassured that it was not Vascular Dementia, but the symptoms I was experiencing were related to "Carpel Tunnel" issues in my wrists. We discussed treatment for this condition but I decided this was not required at this stage. I advised the GP that my experience with the Nuffield Joint Pain Clinic had been very helpful in controlling my pain via regular exercise routines.

  6. Review titled Vitamin D

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 December 2023

I understand from the Nhs website that the recommendation is to take vitamin d during the winter months. However as I have a medical condition,as per the Nhs website advise I should contact my Gp to get advise on how much or if I can take vitamin d but both the receptionist and the duty manager say that the Gp will not see me or speak to me about this and that I should go to the pharmacy and check the Nhs website. I have mentioned on several occasions that I take medication and injections for conditions and that is why I need to see or speak to my Gp but it had been denied to me. So if I do go ahead and take it,I don't know whether it will be safe for me to do so. After telling me different waitlist times(8weeks) and in the afternoon(10weeks) to make a routine appointment with my gp. It was a struggle to make this request heard. In fact the practice manager got quite annoyed with me because I simply didn't listen and just go away? So dissapointed with this lack of listening and medical advise. What is going on with our surgery when we can no longer have reasonable access to our doctors. I was being pushed toward e consult which I have not heard of before and when I said that I was told it is on our website? I would rather see or speak to my Gp and do not think that this is an unreasonable request.

  8. Review titled Excellent practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mrs Tracey Ward - Posted on 15 December 2023

Just wanted to say thank you to all the staff at the Old Fire Station Surgery. Everyone there really goes over and above to provide the best service and as a practice you fly the flag for the NHS. Some of the nicest GP receptionists I've ever met, the nurses are so down to earth and thorough and the GP's are kind and compassionate. Everything you need from a surgery, thank you.

  9. Review titled Confusing information and unable to get an appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 August 2023

While reception staff are polite, getting an appointment has been beyond a challenge. Told son would be put on a waiting list for up to 6 weeks to see GP, when symptoms worsened was told only dealing with emergencies and signposted me to the healthier together app, which was vague but when I completed the info told me to phone GP for an appointment. So a constant circle of being on hold, told no appointments but still needing an appointment. I will be changing GPs.

  10. Review titled eConsult

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 29 August 2023

eConsult does not work in this practice. It opens at 8 am and closes if reaches full capacity. Nothing wrong with this, except that it opens at 8 am sharp and closes after less than one minute (in 30 seconds). This does happen every day. I understand that eConsult is part of a contractual service that a practice provides to their patients and it doesn’t look that this practice delivers it.
