  1. Review titled Really going downhill

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Lish - Posted on 30 October 2023

Some not all of the reception and admin team are really running this practice into the ground. I sent an email on 6/9/23 ago asking for a simple admin request which I was advised would need a GP appointment to action. When I emailed back querying why I would need to waste a GP appointment that could be given to someone who is actually sick for a simple admin request I received a rude one line response back from a receptionist stating that 'we do not provide medical advice, arrange appointments or request letters from the GP via email (my request was for none of the above I simply wanted a incorrect recode of a diagnosis removed from my record). Whats the point of having an admin team if they can't action an admin request and you have to book with a GP? I called this morning at 8am spent an hour holding and couldn't get through to book an appointment and eventually gave up. I called back this afternoon and wanted to book a routine appointment for my admin request as well as check for possible thrush and was told you need to fill out a patches request for admin and that there are no appointments to see the GP today. I advised it wasn't urgent so didn't need an appointment today was just trying to book a routine appointment and advised my internet was down and unable to access patches and was calling as per your website advice on how to book if you cannot access patches which states - To request a routine appointment in the next 14 days: complete a PATCHs on-line request. By providing some brief information we can book you an appropriate appointment in the next 2 weeks. if you find it difficult to use the internet please phone us on, 02087417471 Monday to Friday from 8am to 6.30pm. I was advised you don't book routine appointments so why does it say you do on your website? I was then told by the same receptionist to go to the pharmacy and ask for thrush medication I advised that I think I may have thrush not confirmed and that is why I would like to book to see a GP and have a swab I'm not going to just go to a pharmacy ask for and pay for medication for something that I may or may not have. She then passed me over to the secretary where I had to repeat myself again who then offered for me to come to the surgery to get a urine pot as I advised her urine samples don't check for thrush ( I know this as I work for a GP) so what would be the point of a urine sample? She then offered me a remote appointment @ the hub at Richford gate which I did declined as I'd like to see my own GP. I don't appreciate being fobbed of with incorrect medical advice from a receptionist/secretary who clearly isn't medically trained and only because I know what I'm talking about was I then offered an hub appointment it's not acceptable in general practice. Also not every medical issue needs an on the day appointment routine appointment booking should be an option to all patients. As a patient for over 30 years highly am I'm highly disappointed with todays experience.

Dear Lish, We are sorry to hear you have had a poor experience getting care. You've made a number of points and I'll try to address some but please contact the surgery for parts I can't answer so that we can look at your notes and see who was involved. The "rude one line response" you received is actually an auto reply on email because historically we did try and support some medical requests. As we opened up digital access in the last 2 years, initially with eConsult and then PATCHs, we have stopped doing this because it is inefficient to manage so many different incoming requests. The PATCHs system allow us to communicate more efficiently and safely with patients for the issues where a GP needs to be involved. Every day a doctor goes through all the request to find the best option for an individual and where appropriate arrange investigations before appointments. We do offer the phone and walk in appointments but these tend to be reserved for the on the day appointments for GPs or follow up for ongoing issues. The appointments we offer at the hub at Richford Gate on a Saturday are actually normally staffed by one of the doctors from Park Medical. The advice to speak to a pharmacist is not unreasonable and they are trained to manage conditions like thrush and to identify when safe to treat and when to refer back to the practice. See https://www.boots.com/nhs-services/minorailments (please note many local pharmacies provide this scheme not just Boots). We're sorry about the wrong advice you got about a urine test for thrush. If you can contact us with your details we can work out who was involved and discusss what happened. Either way we will share your complaint and discuss the issues more generally with the team. If you'd like to discuss further please email us at parkmedicalcentrew6@nhs.net Yours sincerely, Dr Robert McLaren, on behalf of all the team at Park Medical Centre

I have been using Park Medical since me and my family moved into the area and I have been delighted with their service. Like all practices they are busy and you may need to wait at times but they are always patient and diligent and they provide an excellent service.

  6. Review titled Excellent practice

I phoned in with an issue . A GP phoned back same day and we had a long call, about 35 minutes to go through a very thorough verbal health check. He arranged various tests, faecal, lung X-ray and blood tests, via Charing Cross Hospital for the X-ray. Within three weeks all results were available and a different GP called to run through the results, around 15 minutes . She was excellent too . The general ease of access to a GP at this practice and the support given is first class.

Yesterday I had a most positive phone call from the practice pharmacist to review my blood pressure medication. He could not have been more helpful and clear. He explained the reasons for my medication and that looking at all the recent results I should remain on my current regime. He also made a plan going forward. It was excellent care. I am lucky to be a patient at this excellent practice

  8. Review titled Exceptionally good practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Philip Mix - Posted on 31 January 2023

Park Medical Centre review I’ve had multiple good experiences with Park Medical Centre since we moved into the area a few months ago. My most recent good experience started with a phone call from a member of the prescription medication team. (I’ve never before experienced that from a health service surgery.) He called after 5:00pm and spent close to 45 minutes talking through my health history and medications. At one point, he suggested that I speak to a doctor, and arranged for that to happen the next day. The next day, I received two calls from a doctor. I missed the first call and he made a second attempt later. He, too, was extremely patient and thorough. He suggested that I arrange a blood test and submit a urine sample, and both were done two days later. I have a follow-up appointment fixed with the doctor in a couple of weeks to discuss the test results. A month or so ago, I had an appointment with a different doctor. It was arranged on the same day I called the centre. She, too, was patient and reassuring. Later the same day, she sent me a referral letter to arrange to see a specialist through the health service, or privately if I was too anxious to wait.

My daughter and her two daughters are patients at the centre, and they’ve always has positive experiences. Response times and visits are always efficient and reassuring. We’re very fortunate to have the Park Medical Centre as our surgery.

  9. Review titled This whole practice is being ruined by the admin staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 January 2023

receptionist are rude and very fast to fob you off. tried making an appointment and there asking me for every detail on the problem i had to be then told to ring back in the morning for appointments when id been on hold for over an hour waiting in the morning que! medications are never ready on time and the reception staff blame the chemist staff for the delays sometimes when they haven't even sent them the prescription yet! one day you can order your prescription over the phone the next your told to come in to the red box email or i can add an extra waste of time and ask the chemist to do it for them to end in the same result, prescriptions late! ive seen many people complaining when im in and the way reception staff talk to them is ridiculous , just a month ago one shouted at a old man who then left confused in tears as they had sent him a sms to come in and they told him to call in the mornings not listening to the fact he cant get threw hed been trying over a week. as we have all had to with this surgery.

Dear Patient, We are very sorry to hear of your poor experiences. With our new phone system you should not be waiting over an hour and indeed on review of our logs this now seems to happen once a week or less. The average call response time is a few minutes - we are aiming to get this to a minute. If you do get stuck in a long queue on the phone we'd encourage you to use our call back option: this will allow you to put the phone down but maintain your place in the queue and then call you back when you get to number1. We're also sorry to hear about your prescription issues - we don't have a red box email or recognise the pattern you describe. The issues you describe our very concerning - please do raise this with us directly and one of the senior team will look into it and get back to you. Yours sincerely, Dr Robert McLaren (on behalf of all the team at Park Medical Centre)
