  1. Review titled Run by hourly paid temporary doctors

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 October 2023

I have only twice ever seen the same doctor more than once - it's a different 'temp' every time. The doctors main aims seems to be to get the surgery empty and the day over rather than sort medical problems & the most usual prescription is "go home you'll get better". Recently they had a flu jab day & despite timed appointments there was a 30 person queue in the car park. When the queue reached the building there was no 2m-covid-separation inside - just jam as many people in the building as you can. Can someone tell me why it takes 2 people to run a Boots commercial pharmacy but seemingly a rota of about 6 people to run their dispensary with restricted hours - when did a public pharmacy last close for lunch when most people have the time to pick up their prescriptions. Very keen to advertise the average doctors salary - but when you have a whole host of part time temps to average in you can do what you want with statistics - if they feel the need to justify this ( & why should they ) at least do it with some intelligence The remedy for this practice is simple - allow a competitor to set up in the same area . Currently of course this practice group would have top gibe it's permission for this to happen - but if they can't produce the service..........

We are sorry that the first flu clinic we ran this year resulted in a queue forming. We unfortunately had some issues with our systems, and staff that were new to vaccinating. Our subsequent flu clinics ran much smoother and to time. There are no current laws on social distance requirements, but appreciate that this situation can cause patients concern. We have been running quieter evening clinics for those not wishing to participate in our larger flu clinics. With regards to appointments with our clinical staff, we have 6 GP Partners and 10 Salaried GP's, alongside a team of allied health professionals, such as a clinical pharmacist, pharmacy tech, physiotherapist, advanced nurse practitioners and paramedics. You can find a list of these on our webpage here: https://www.petrocgrouppractice.co.uk/our-staff We evaluate every patient's request to see a GP, and if you need to be seen on the day, for an acute problem, you will be given an appointment with the next available clinician on the day. If you have a chronic condition requiring a routine appointment in the next 2-4 weeks, then we will aim to put you with the clinician you have seen previously where possible. Occasionally we may employ locums, where we have staff holiday or sickness to cover. Our dispensary team are responsible for managing the ordering, organising medical reviews (for 8000 patients), dealing with prescription queries, submitting relevant prescription paperwork to the NHS, as well as putting together patients individual prescriptions. We have clear guidance and protocols that we must follow with regards to prescriptions and specifically controlled drugs, which means we have to allow the dispensing team uninterrupted time to do these. We are sorry that the opening times are not always convenient for every patient, but we do regularly review our opening hours.

  2. Review titled The surgery does to appear to want to help patients

Rated 1 star out of 5

Saw on TV that lung health checks have been available for 2 years and are offered to people age 55 to 74 who are smokers & ex smokers. Telephoned the surgery to enquire about receiving a scan, told that they knew nothing about it, and given a number to telephone to speak to peninsular health department. Rang them, and a young lady told me that the surgery did not have me logged as an ex smoker & told me to phone my GP to obtain a referral. Rang the surgery again, told they did not know anything about this. Phoned peninsular health again, a very helpful lady told me that our GP practice had not joined the programme yet and that I should get back to them to ask them about this. Phoned the surgery yet again, explained everything again. Someone phoned me back to say that "You are too previous & have to wait until next year to receive a letter!" Made me feel like a naughty schoolgirl for daring to ask. So once again, it appears to be a post code lottery - I understand that the programme has already been running for 2 years! The whole idea of the programme is to pick signs of cancer up early - therefore to my mind the sooner you are referred for a scan the better the outcome, if anything untoward is found. Guess we have to wait patiently for someone to deal with the administration for this. Wonder how many people may be picked up too late.

  3. Review titled Poor communication

I got issued a sick note from my GP who I haven’t seen in years stating that I am unfit for work when I clearly am, claiming that I need a knee operation when there is nothing wrong with me knee! My advice to padstow surgery is to check patient records before sending them out to the wrong person!

  4. Review titled Lack of personal approach

by NHS aervice user - Posted on 14 August 2023

I do not believe AI is the answer for GP practices. When we are ill and worried about our health we need to talk to a human. This surgery appears to be under staffed and out of touch with its patients. After my blood results were finally given I then had to use the klinic app again to request not book an appointment. I then receive a text informing me that I will be sent an appointment shortly but there is a long wait. Prior to the covid pandemic this surgery was great but it seems that they have used covid to lock themselves down never to return to a personal and open door approach again! I find it shocking and inexcusable!

Usually waiting 2+ weeks for an appointment only to be told they don’t have enough time to talk about a 2nd ailment and you’ll have to book another appointment. The Klinic system is a joke and just an excuse to have even less interaction with patients. They are leaving patients suffering and are of no use to the community.

  6. Review titled Disgraceful way to run a practice.

Rated 1 star out of 5

Awful. Logged on to ask for an appointment (you can’t ring anymore it’s banned), got fed up waiting at 4pm with absolutely zero contact so phoned, said I hadn’t had a call back. Reply “yeh they will look at it, don’t know when or even if it will be today, just call 111 if it gets worse”. Why is the system so broken u can’t get a doctor appointment despite being with the practice for 40 years!!! So now I’m going to have to call 111 and beg for an appointment probably miles and miles away from where I live. Disgusting.

  8. Review titled Oh dear, avoid if you can.

Rated 1 star out of 5

It is very difficult to get an appointment, but you may get a call back when you fill in the new on line form. The form is not at all user friendly, and needs revising, many of the questions are of no relevance. My partner does not use technology, it took him 3 months to receive a call back about his health - he is now scared of contacting the surgery - as when he actually saw a GP his health had got worse, and he had more problems to discuss. The doctor told him that he only had 5 mins to consult with him, and cut him short! The surgery does not appear to offer 5 yearly health checks for patients over 40 years of age - never been offered them in decades. You need to keep on top of what injections/tests are needed yourself - as there does not appear to be a system to call you in. The surgery in St Columb always looks grubby and uncared for. Tried to change to other surgeries - without success, it really is a postcode lottery, sad as it used to be really good.

  9. Review titled Absolute shambles

Rated 1 star out of 5

Where to begin. Getting past the god like receptionist is hard. When she's actually at her station and I don't have to ring a bell and wait ten minutes . To then hand her a letter from my cardiologist who has prescribed potentially life saving drugs to prevent angina and get told it'll be next week.. . She scans the letter and sees that it's urgent to tell me that the Dr is aware and it's on my notes. . well why hasn't it been prescribed. Why do I have to wait yet another weekend for whoever to actually do their job . If you came into my restaurant and I made you wait 4 days you would go else where ... But I don't have that choice. . how hard can it really be. Or do I need to have another heart attack and sue you for neglect..but back to the receptionist. . how rude would you like to be. I mean there's people in the que whilst your discussing my letter . And the best bit when I walk out disgruntled you continue to moan about me like I've done something wrong.. I guess you didn't realise the next person was my partner. . But that's ok you discuss my health after I've left in public. . No confidentiality in this surgery

We are sorry that we were not able to resolve this for you within a reasonable timeframe. In order to look into this we would ask you contact the surgery directly. If you require further assistance please use our Klinik form to request an appointment or help with your prescription.

  10. Review titled Practice gone downhill rapidly

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 February 2023

Same as many other patients. Barrier of the reception and having to discuss personal health problems with an unqualified person often in the presence of other members of the public. What happened to the confidentiality between doctor and patient? Actually getting a face to face appointment without being one breath short of a blue light ambulance is another matter. Now we have the alternative appointment, the phone call where the doctor is not on Whatsapp so is unable to actually view the nastiness of the problem but has to decipher ones description of the problem. I have friends in the Newquay area and they don't suffer the same problems. It's not the Doctoring, it's the organisation, which sadly also sums up the NHS at present

We understand the frustration that patients have when it comes to contacting us. We have recently introduced Klinik, in order to help triage patients requests. This allows patients to fill in a form, rather than speaking with a receptionist if they prefer. Please see our website for more information.
