  1. Review titled Appalling lack of prevention

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 February 2023

I am 68 years old and recently bereaved. It is well known that older people’s health suffers after bereavement. I have not had my blood pressure checked for years. When I was dropping off a test at the surgery I asked if I could use the self serve blood pressure machine in the waiting room. The receptionist told me that I cannot use it without a note from a GP or nurse. The appointment to get this note from a nurse would take three weeks!!!! That is so weird as the machine was right there ready to go. Staff also questioned in a rude tone of voice why I thought I needed a check! As high blood pressure is known as the ‘silent killer’ I would have thought Porter Brook Medical Centre would make every effort to support people with disease prevention. It is no wonder you can’t get an appointment if the surgery is fire fighting all the time due to a lack of access to basic prevention measures.

  2. Review titled Unable to get through

    by Shelb22 - Posted on 12 December 2022

Since Monday I’ve been trying to get an emergency appointment. I quite clearly have some form of infection and it is getting worse. I’ve tried ringing every morning to get an automated message saying there are too many people waiting and to ring again later. When I ring later I can’t have an appointment until days later when I’m the meantime I’m getting more Ill. This is with 111 sending the doctors a note to say I need to be seen within 48 hours from their triage and 111 refusing to assist because my doctors must. I’m now on day 6 of being ill with no signs of it getting better and I’m sure it’s just antibiotics I need.

  3. Review titled Difficult to get in touch

Rated 3 stars out of 5

The NHS website states you can get a flu jab by booking online with your GP practice. I'm eligible for a jab but when I logged into the appointment system for Porter Brook it says, as usual, no appointments available. This has happened every time since the pandemic. When is Porter Brook going to get its online booking system back up and running? It takes forever to phone for an appointment. Online is so much quicker.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. We release some online appointments available for routine face-to-face consultations daily. However, we find it's more effective to book via our Receptionists as they have full access to the booking system, whereas the online bookings are quite limited to who you can see. With regards to your flu vaccine, we are still offering these at the surgery so please get in touch and we can book you in. Thanks again

  4. Review titled Shocking. Really difficult to get an appointment.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 October 2022

It took me over 2 hours to get through this morning after being told yesterday yo ring back at 8.30. After bring in a que 3 times for at least 30 mins each time the phone just cut off. At least 4 times I couldn't even get in the que which you don't find out about until you've listened to a 3 minute message. Finally got through to be told suprise surprise that there was no appointment left. I've got a possible ear infection and don't want to leave it over the weekend and was just told to go to walk in. Really upset and dissapointed that you can't get help when you need it.

  5. Review titled This practice has really gone down hill

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 October 2022

I have been with this practice since I was 19. I am now 62. It used to be absolutely brilliant, well run, friendly, and excellent clinical advice.Over the last 3years since a lot of the older doctors have retired it has really become so patient unfriendly. Impossible to get a face to face appointment or even a ring back. Took me one hour this morning to get through to be told nothing available not even a ring back. And that I had to try again tomorrow or go to the walk in centre or dial 111 after 6. Goodbye Porterbrook medical centre I will transfer as soon as I am able to. Such a shame after over 40 years.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. And we are very sorry for your disappointment with the Practice. We are aware that our phone lines are very busy and it can be difficult for patients to get through. However we monitor the call queue throughout the day and where possible increase staff levels to manage this. One hour call wait time would have indicated the Practice being extremely busy, as the average wait time is up to 30+ minutes on a busy day and less than 15 minutes on quieter days. Our doors are open and patients are welcome to visit the practice in person. As with other areas of the NHS, General Practice continues to go through difficult times since the Pandemic and we have had to learn to adapt to this. The appointment system is one of the areas that we have made changes and offer patients a choice of either face-to-face or telephone consultations. We also offer 'same day' or 'soon' appointments (usually seen within the week) and routine appointments which can be within the following 2-4 weeks. We offer hundreds of appointments across both sites per day. When all our appointments have been booked for the day, we will signpost patients to the most appropriate service, which may be 111 or the Walk In Centre.

  6. Review titled Practice not fit for purpose

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Ayse - Posted on 20 October 2022

I attended today as a new patient for my B12 injection. I have a private prescription for the jabs as I am allergic to the generic brand and have this monthly unlike the generic which is administered 3 monthly. I found the nurse who I had the misfortune of seeing today to be highly rude and arrogant. In fact I would say she had a major attitude problem. She was off from the get go, she asked me who prescribed the ampules and I said GP. She asked again and I said GP, I am a new patient here, its a private prescription. She said "there is no need to get defensive" at no point was I defensive with this individual, I was in fact taken aback by her tone and manner which is totally unacceptable given the line of work she is in. There would be no point in being defensive when my records confirm I'm on this medication and it has been prescribed to me! She then told me she hadn't heard of this medication! And said B12 injections are given every three months not monthly and proceeded to do a search on the NHS website. Surely she should have checked my records in the first instance. Needless to say this is the first and last time I attend this practice. I didn't mind the long waits on the phone trying to get through (1 hour 30 mins plus), or the fact that they have no appointments until a month later or that I paid to park, what I cannot stand is arrogance and people with chips on their shoulders. I would not recommend this place whatsoever.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent consultation. Generally we have very good reports from our patients about our nursing team and I am sorry that this was not your experience. Due to the complexity of the matter, please can you contact the surgery so we can discuss your consultation in more detail. Many thanks

  7. Review titled Exteremly difficult to get an appointment with a doctor.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 September 2023

I have not been able to make an appointment with my own regular doctor this year at all. The reception staff are very polite and that it is all well and good. But I need to see a doctor that is the purpose of being registered with a surgery and not to just to receive a polite response that I can not see one.

  8. Review titled Really appalling GP service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 27 April 2023

Really awful experiences with this surgery mostly when trying to get my 2 year old f so on seen. So difficult to get through, hour long waits to answer the phone. Often no appointments when you finally do get seen. An absolute refusal to see face to face even a young child with a rash. GP’s very arrogant and unhelpful. I can’t u sweat and why the CQC won’t intervene as this surgery is not fit for purpose. I have since left this surgery due to safety concerns s for my child.

  9. Review titled Very disappointing + bad experiences

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 July 2023

I've been registered with this surgery for a couple of years and the every single time I've rung up to get an appointment (20+ times) I've been waiting in a queue for at least an hour, if I'm even able to get through at all. By that point there are very rarely any appointments left, unless they're weeks away. Face-to-face appointments are only offered if 'clinically necessary' due to 'Covid-19', meaning I have never seen a doctor in person. The few appointments I have had by telephone have often been rushed and I haven't been able to say everything I want to, however the doctors are generally pleasant but clearly very busy. I have been sent to the NHS walk-in centre multiple times when I've told the receptionist that I really need to see a doctor. After waiting 4+ hours at the walk-in centre, I was told that there was nothing they could do for me as they didn't treat pre-existing/ongoing conditions, and that the surgery shouldn't have sent me to them. In summary it is virtually impossible to get appointments, I have never seen a doctor in person while being registered here and the receptionists make me feel like a nuisance when I tell them I can't wait 3+ weeks for an appointment. Very disappointed in my experience with this surgery and I will be moving as soon as possible.
