  1. Review titled Great service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jane - Posted on 17 December 2024

I completed the Klinik form at 8 am when the online clinical form opened. Within half an hour a GP called me. She asked me a few health questions and suggested I come in to see a clinician for a face-to-face appointment. She arranged this for 230 that day. At my face-to-face appointment, the clinician asked me appropriate health questions, listened to my chest and decided antibiotics were necessary. These were sent to my nominated pharmacy which I collected later that day. A day later and I’m already on the mend. Thank you for your prompt and appropriate clinical advice! I appreciate how relentless your workload always is, so I am very grateful. Wishing you all a happy and well deserved Christmas break.

Thanks for taking the time to do this and glad that you were helped efficiently . This motivates us to continue doing what works for the patient and helps morale within the team greatly when can be quite low with relentless pressures. We are grateful for your understanding with the workload which is very high and long hours being worked by the team daily to manage this. Many thanks again and best wishes as always.

Third time of trying to get an email from my nurse or doctor to say yes thats fine for microbladding. I have hung on for an hour this morning in the queue to then be cut off. This is not the first time. I have been told different information everytime i have called to a point they wanted to charge me 45.00 for an email saying yes thats fine ...... unbelievable its so frustrating, on klink there is no option for general enquiry either so you go around the house..... i feel so sorry for the aged dealing with this... itts the worst its ever been

Sincere apologies for the problems you have had. Unfortunately we are the busiest we have been this year and workload is extremely high. We do have a facility on the phone that allows callback such that you dont have to wait and using this might have helped. Secondly, giving an opinion (and taking responsibility for the opinion) for non-NHS services is not part of the NHS GP contract and there is a charge as per BMA guidlines unfortunatley - many GPs dont give such letters as is extra work and do not wish to carry the risks. Access to services from the surgery is in multiple ways including use of Klinik, telephoning and also walking in which many patients employ. Again, apologies for the experience and hope all is resolved for yiu now. Best wishes as always.

  3. Review titled Very prompt response to online consultation

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Robert Haggett - Posted on 01 August 2024

I spoke with GP within 10 mins of requesting a discussion. He helped with that issue and also outstanding queries and practicalities of ordering repeat medication. He also spotted that I had missed actioning a change in anticoagulant after my last blood test and recommended remedial action. Comprehensive, helpful and timely service.

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I did an online consultation for my son at 8am & had an appointment by 11.30 with a GP. The GP we saw at Birch Hill was very helpful & thorough. Everytime I have used the online service I have had a response quickly & my concerns have always been addressed.

My appt was for 1450, I was called at 1437 for ten seconds, couldnt get to my phone so I called back, I was 20 in the queue. I wasn't even called back during my 10 min appt! I cant see why I needed a tel appt for an ankle injury, what does that do. We are being triaged before we even get to the door! Merging surgeries was supposed to make the service better, well it couldnt be any worse, the staff are rude when you do get to speak with them. Its an awful awful service, its that bad Im going to fork out and go private... Thats how bad it is

Thank you for this feedback and sincere apologies for the experience you have had. Generally speaking, we call the patient and almost all of the time if it is not picked up it goes to voicemail. We usually leave a voicemail or send a text that we have called and advise patient not to call back as we will try again a few minutes later that day, considering that the patient may have been busy so wouldn’t be any earlier that 10 minutes later. So unsure why you had to call us back and wait on the phone. Furthermore, our new phone system has a call-back facility which you could have used, and we would have called you back, rather than you having to wait on the line. We carry out telephone consultations to assess the need – it may be that in your case with an ankle injury, you needed to go to hospital straight away, need an x-ray or see a more appropriate clinician eg physiotherapist – hence the need to assess first in this way. If you were seen by a clinician without triage, then your wait could have been longer and assessment inappropriate as the clinician would only have advised as stated. Hence the telephone assessment is more efficient and better for patients. The merger has brought us many challenges, but the overall feedback has been overwhelmingly positive as we have changed much since the merger – better access, higher quality and updated innovative systems for care delivery – but we do appreciate we have a long way to go to get it to the level that we aspire to. We would really appreciate you contacting the practice as I am unable to access your case and would really like to firstly see if we can help asap – the NHS is there for you and you shouldn’t have to go private - but also secondly, to review calls as we do record all calls to investigate if there is a staff training need – we strive to ensure staff are empathic and supportive at all times. You can contact us via the website, Klinik (our online consultation tool) or walk in and leave a message for a doctor, or of course call the practice. Again, thanks for the feedback, and apologies for the problems you have faced.

  6. Review titled Awful

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Ella - Posted on 29 January 2024

I’m a new patient with this surgery. Had a blood test less than 2 weeks ago and after I called up to get my results I was told it hadn’t been processed, called up again a few days later and someone said they would call me back but no one did, I’ve called up again and it seems that my blood has been lost. No one can give me any information about what’s happened to my blood or where it is. I’m really regretting transferring to this surgery but unsure if I can transfer away so soon. Feeling very uneasy.

Thanks for this and sincere apologies for the experience you have had. Please do send in our online consultation enquiry via our website called Klinik and i shall personally look into this. Over the past 6 months we have had similar issues and seems to be that the laboratory at the hospital does not send us the results and we have to request them etc or check their own reports, and this may be the case with your bloods - but anyway, i shall have to investigate this as a matter of urgency. So i would urge you to either call us again, but may be easier to send in a Klinik form, or visit the practice again (there is no surname and cannot identify the patient, so i am having to request you to do this) . Please do mention for the attention of the executive partner on Klinik. Thanks again.

Awful Surgery after waiting more than 12days for a prescription to be fulled I went round to Cambridge road site to ask what happened, I asked the receptionist what happened she told me she hadn’t seen the two email that came from Lloyds direct she then said it was taking more than 10 days to process a prescription I said why was that she said because they had over 48 thousand patients. I was asked to wait if I wanted to see the practice manager while waiting I went to use the toilet the floor was wet there was know toilet paper, know hand towels and the smell was disgusting. Shocking surgery badly led and they talk down to you wouldn’t let them run a bingo came in a care home this branch should be closed.

Thanks you for this review - and am very sorry for the experience you have had. We shall definitely look into issues you have highlighted as this does not meet the standard of care we aspire to deliver. We have currently got a large number of prescriptions that need processing - and this is due to many factors but not specifically the number of patients. It is due to increased prescribing in the NHS, increased monitoring, many medication shortages, staff shortages and illness, amongst other factors. We have the whole of our premises cleaned daily professionally, and we would hope that patients would inform us of any areas we need addressing but no-one had on the day you used the facilities. We shall look into processes in all of these areas to see if we can improve things and apologies again. We would also ask that if you wish then do let us know via reception you personal details so that we can further understand any of the issues, take on any recommendations and give you confidence that we are working tirelessly since having only recently taken over this surgery

  8. Review titled Unable to book blood test appointment on-line

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Prof Michael Bagshaw - Posted on 19 January 2023

Advised by GP to undergo blood test but he was unable to book it during telephone consultation and asked me to make appointment. No facility for booking blood tests on website. After waiting nearly an hour for the phone to be answered, I was told there were no appointments available for blood tests and to go to Heatherwood. Unacceptable.

Professor Bagshaw, thank you for alerting us to the problems and sincere apologies for the inconvenience you have faced. I shall take these to the management but will give you an update: 1. Telephone: we are aware of the issues with waiting time when calling the surgery. To help with this we have set up telephony hub and an online consultations service via our website (called Klinik), which has helped manage the volume such that when we were getting something like 100 calls and hour ,we are now getting around 50. However, the demand is huge and relentless. We have employed 5 new staff over the past 6 months to manage the pressures we are facing and to help mange demand. Additionally, we are looking to change our phone provider that may facilitate not waiting on the phone but to have a call-back facility within - but is being discussed and hopefully in place in the next couple of months. 2. Booking on website for blood test: We have some for general appointments, but this has not been an option for blood tests as we had found in the past that these appts were taken up by non-blood test reasons, and that the correct forms weren't in place meaning that blood tests had to be repeated. The facility at the hospital is there to help but I am aware that they too have long waits. But we are continually reviewing the need that best helps the patient 3. As you are aware, there are many pressures in the NHS. One is that of workforce. We have been short (although advertised extensively over the past 2 years) of nurses and phlebotomists. However, 2 new Health care assistants have started last week and will be able to start taking bloods after induction and training soon - so hopefully help in many ways. The need for blood test has arisen greatly as we are still catching up with review post-Covid, plus we are doing far more as a result of been asked to do by hospitals Anyway, i hope this helps to explain some of the issues you have raised and actions we are taking, and thank you again.
