  1. Review titled Can never get an appointment or e-consult

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Glen - Posted on 16 April 2024

Its incredibly rare to be able to actually get in for anything here! Hayfever season is well upon us, and its effecting me quite badly, infact, yesterday was particularly bad. The existing medication i'm taking is not working particularly well, and this is something I'm taking after seeking advice from a pharmacist as we're supposed to do now. I was advised to take 1 fexofendine tablet once a day (120mg) and 2 squirts of fluticasone propionate up each nostril, and it still wasn't working. I was experiencing horrible symptoms which were constant sneezing, constant congestion and runny nose, which made work a pleasure, so decided to book an e-consult to talk to my Dr and get a prescription for stronger meds. The website asked me to check back at 6:30pm, which I did, and within seconds I was logged in to be greeted with an immediate 'no more e-consults available, try again tomorrow' What exactly am I supposed to do? The same thing happens with the telephone, ring up bang on time, massive queue and by the time you get anywhere near the front, no appointments left. Its not as tho this is a small practice either. All i wanted was some decent medication for hayfever! Looking online, it appears that Sandgate Road Surgery is known for this. If and when you actually get to see a Dr, they're fine, but getting one is the issue.

  2. Review titled Repeat prescription process fails again

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Richard - Posted on 29 April 2024

Tuesday 23 April, hand prescription to receptionist and ask them to make sure it gets to the person responsible for approving controlled medicines, and have this repeated back to me. Saturday 27 April, visit pharmacy to be told that prescription has not been approved / released and is not on the system. Monday 29 April, visit surgery: - no record of precription having been handed in on the 23rd - a note is added to the system with a comment that "patient is not happy" - advised that could have to wait another 3 working days - advised to phone in at 6.30pm to see if precriptions' clerk has approved my prescription This surgery misplaces or mislays my prescription or delays its processing once in every three or four months. I have made other complaints here to that effect. The repeat prescription process for controlled medication is broken and should be fixed. The safest way to guarantee receipt of my medication on time is to hand in the prescription in person weeks before my medication runs out, return every day until the surgery confirms that it has been appreoved and then immediately check with my pharmacist that this is corerct. It is also wise to disregard the "please allow three full working days before collection" notice, because this has also proved an insufficient period of time for the surgery to get it right.

  3. Review titled Used to be Excellent

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Sue - Posted on 11 May 2024

Like everyone else, I'm having trouble getting an appointment. I can't phone at 8h00 because I start work at 07h30. I'm having problems with diabetes and can't arrange a routine blood test and an appointment with the diabetic nurse. The local NHS are superb in an emergency but for "routine" care you are on your own.

  4. Review titled Texts

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Please stop sending texts inviting me to pop in to have my blood pressure taken. Many years ago at William Harvey I saw a sign warning to be aware of the 'white coat affect' on blood pressure. I took the advice and bought my own blood pressure test and have not looked back. The answer today is 117/67.

  5. Review titled Pretty awful.

Rated 1 star out of 5

My experience was like going back to the 1970’s. This surgery has poorly trained staff, poor quality facilities and unsafe policies and procedures. A very poor example of an NHS GP surgery.

  6. Review titled Just concerned

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Katy Brown - Posted on 26 February 2024

The thing that really worries me is the process of only being able to get an appointment by ringing at 8 am in the morning and hopefully managing to secure an appointment for the same day. In the past this hasn’t been such a massive issue for me as luckily I have had quite good health. But I do really need to see a doctor because I have some worrying symptoms. I’m a teacher by profession and it is really difficult for me to try to get callbacks or appointments on the same day. I can’t answer my phone during lessons and I can’t take time off work in the hope that I might get a doctors appointment. The policy of not being able to make future appointments to see a doctor is going to put peoples health at risk. I am really hopeful that I don’t have cancer but I’m following all the advice and going to ask for a test, and I can’t do this easily, in fact it’s really, really difficult, and this, surely, is wrong. When I have tried in the past to see a doctor I was unsuccessful. This is serious now and I have to go through a gruelling process just to get a simple test that, according to the adverts, could save my life,

  7. Review titled Waiting for Covid Antiviral medication.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Deborah King - Posted on 18 January 2024

I tested positive for covid on Tuesday 16/1/24. Rang sandgate They told me there was nothing they could do so I should ring 111 and also tell 111 not to referr me back as they didn't have capacity. Rang 111 who said Sandgate rd had a duty of care, but due to previous illness I told them they would not help me. Wednesday 10.08 am 111 took my details and said I had to now wait for a call from the clinical team. Over 11 hours later 111 clinical team call me and ask again for my symptoms. I again say I tested positive for covid, which she didn't know. I was informed I had to now wait for a call from the covid team. Thursday 10.28am this morning I received a call from a rude abrupt man from the covid team, had to go through everything yet again while I'm having trouble moving and breathing and in alot of pain. As of now, I'm waiting for yet another call from a prescribing team. All I want is a prescription for antivirals due to being asthmatic and anaemic. Why couldn't a GP at sandgate Rd surgery written one out and saved all this messing around and waiting, while I'm really poorly and struggling with my breathing. This isn't a duty of care. This isn't first do no harm.

  8. Review titled Fantastic help and healthcare from all surgery staff.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by JOHN STEWART LITTLE - Posted on 21 February 2024

Following a short period of 'not feeling too good', I contacted the surgery re. this and a prostate-related issue. I was overwhelmed by the kind and efficient attention I received from every person who dealt with me at the surgery and also the staff at Royal Victoria Hosp. + the ultra sound clinic in Dover. My treatment is now on-going and my many thanks go to everyone concerned with my care. What a great surgery and caring staff. How lucky my wife and I are to live in the catchment area of Sandgate Road Surgery in Folkestone.

  9. Review titled Poor Service,Unprofessional and Uncaring

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 November 2023

The lack of patient care is astounding. Some of the receptionists need full customer service training. Cant even organise a simple blood test. No follow ups, have to chase them for everything. Appalling. On hold for an hour and they state to call back next day. Called back dead on 8 and end up 26 in the queue. CQC need to investigate.

  10. Review titled Dissatisfied

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 September 2023

What was once a great practice is now not. I have an ongoing ear problem that I get infections frequently. Like others have mentioned, I was all set to send an econsult at 8am this morning to be informed it had reached its capacity for today & to ring which I did, only to be told that I couldn’t be placed in a queue do to high call volumes & no appointments are available then cut off, how can this be at 8am! Luckily we have a fabulous service at the local hospital but why should we have to go there constantly, it worries me that if we lose this service, what are we supposed to do & what if it’s such that you’re unable to leave the house. It’s funny that I can get my flu jab appointment though without any trouble….doesn’t take much to know why…please sort this out.
