Review titled New System unorganised
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Ion - Posted on 23 September 2024
I have waited 9 days for an appointment for a bad back. GP prescribed medication that given me really bad side effects. I am now trying to get alternative medication, this seems impossible as no staff is answering the phone. At my appointment I saw people coming in totally confused with the new system. The receptionist totally ignored a workman that was repairing door alarm, I saw the man pick-up his leaders and left. May I say the GP was OK it's the receptionist that is the problem.

I am sorry to hear that you have waited longer than expected for a response. Our policy is to reply to econsults within 24-48 hours. We respond to all patients with either advice or an appointment. I am sorry that this has not been the case for you on this occasion. I note that you did have an appointment with the GP and I hope that you now have a resolution to your health concern. if you wish to discuss the matter further please contact the practice manager. Kind regards

Review titled Ridiculous e consult service
Rated 1 star out of 5

Can’t phone to get an appointment have to fill in e-consult online. Doesn’t give you all your options and refers you to an and e all the time. Total waste of time. Receptionist are not allowed to help you either.

Dear Patient, The introduction of the e-consult service is to assist the patients in accessing the appropriate care at the right time and ensuring the most urgent of patients receive the care required. Patients are able to contact the practice by phone but will be prompted to use e-consult where possible to alleviate the pressure on admin services. The phone is still covered during core opening hours and if patients are unable to use e-consult they will still be able to contact the practice and the reception team will support the completion of a e-consult for you. The practice still offers the same support we have always had but like most health care providers we have an increase demand on our services. We have to develop new ways in which we can support patients with the same limited resource.

Review titled Huge problems

I have been trying for 3 months to get HRT prescription, you can't make appointments on the phone so e-consult inevitably gives you ones you can't make & have to change. 3 times I have had my telephone appointments cancelled without being told, I ring up after waiting in for 3 hrs to be told the GP isn't in that day. All I want is an HRT prescription which ought be simple but 3 months later still nothing! I would recommend you try another surgery first.

Review titled What ever happened to Selly Oak Health Centre?
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Diss satisfied - Posted on 15 May 2024
Been with this health centre over 20 years and in the last few years the service has fallen off a cliff. May as well discount their phone lines as they never answer them. I have just spent half an hour trying to get through, by the time someone answered I'd forgotten what I was calling for. Bring back the old staff and get this place working again. Just to be clear this review was triggered by a specific experience.

Review titled What has happened to this surgery
Rated 3 stars out of 5

Not sure what's happened to this surgery. Pre covid it was amazing, couldn't fault it all. But now, I can't say the same. I've experienced a 4 week delay in doctors reading my blood results, to the point of me phoning everyday to find out what they were. I've had an appointment today which I didn't get a call because the receptionist moved my appointment and didn't ring to say that this had happened. I'd waited all day for the call. I rang them twice to find out what was happening to be told my appointment had been changed. It takes an average of 20 minutes for the phone to be answered. The online appointment system only works if it's actually read when you have spent ages filling it all in. This surgery has gone down hill which is such a shame.

Review titled Don't waste your time

If you have any aches or pains, then don't wait to see a doctor at this surgery. Tried for three days to get an appointment, they say ring at 8:00, but no one answers. Turned up outside surgery next morning at 8:00 and was told to expect a call from doctor between 9 and 12 that day. No such call was received all day, even rang the surgery twice, just in case they had forgotten, but I was assured they would call back, but they never did. Is this the kind of service our taxes pay for?

Review titled Helpful and Caring Staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 June 2023
Staff always very helpful and try to fulfill requests as best as they can. Sometimes resolution is beyond their control but not due to their lack of trying. Phone lines management has improved a lot more this year. I have several chronic medical issues. Doctors are post-active and pro-active when I have requested help and attended an appointment. Referrals are made when they cannot help further. Referral is key as many other surgeries I have been really take way too long for referrals. Nurses also perform really well. This practise has a large patient base and I can see that they deal very well with it. Would highly recommend this practise. Well done to all the teams including managers, doctors, nurses, admin and reception staff. They performed really well over the pandemic, protecting patients and taking care of them. Keep up the great work as you are greatly appreciated ! PS would recommend highly the NHS online apps if you are technology savvy, the app provides a lot of info and gets things done!

Review titled Communication Issue

Requested repeat prescription 12.04, told it would be ready on the 14th. Went to collect, not there. Had to wat over the weekend by which time my supply had run out. On the 17th went to the surgery, requested tablets again, told they would be ready on 19th, surprise, they weren't. Seems the doctor might want a review but hasn't documented it anywhere nor has anyone asked my to come in for a review. As I had been chaasing my prescription for 25 minutes and had the receptionist on the phone I optimistically asked for an appointment, told to call back in the morning. Really!!! My phone bill and patience are running out, much like my tablets and I need to call them because the GP wants to see me? Call me if you want to see me or at least send an email asking me to book an appointment, I am not a mind reader.

Review titled Thorough and caring
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Despite some trouble getting an appointment (which is the case everywhere right now), my doctor at Selly Oak Health Centre was incredibly thorough in calling me in to the practice following a telephone appointment, examining me and then giving a prescription that cleared up a problem that I had been very worried about. Thanks to all at Selly Oak Health Centre.
