I've been trying to get GP approval for a family member to be seen as an NHS patient by an audiologist from a private company. I've done this in the past, with no major problems. This time it seems that the request was not passed on to the GP so I arranged a reminder request and followed it up with a phone call to the practice. Eventually it was agreed by the GP but nobody informed the private company that they had the go-ahead. I only found this out because a friend went into the practice and asked about it. It was a very simple procedure to follow - so why the problems? Patients get the feeling that they aren't important and just get in the way of the staff. It's really not good enough!
