  1. Review titled Useless

I am over a year overdue for a smear test because I cant get an appointment. For months I have been told that I have to keep ringing back to see if more appointments have become free as they cannot book anything over a month. I was told that they had no nurses and that I would have to go to a walk in clinic at the hospital. The receptionists are snappy and do not want to help. Constantly told that I have to go to Whipton branch which is nowhere near where I live. If there are no staff at Southernhay just close it! Drs themselves are actually very helpful when you can get to see them. Odd that there are 'no' appointments and yet the waiting room is always empty. No online option to book appointments. Drs have actually agreed that reception are awkward and advised that Drs themselves have access to offer additional appointments which reception don't have access to. Seriously considering changing surgeries.

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry that you have had difficulty booking an appointment. We are a two site practice and therefore will offer appointments at our branch site as well as our main site. We did have a period of time when we had less nurse availability but engaged a locum nurse to support the team whilst a new team member was being trained. Nurse appointments vary in duration depending on the reason for the appointment so we are unable to offer online booking as we need to be sure that sufficient time has been booked. Some of our nurse appointments can book booked up to 12 weeks in advance though and through our links with other local practices, there can be Saturday appointments available. The drop in clinic offered by the local hospital is an option that often suits patients on the occasions that practice and patient availability do not align. Looking at the appointment availability today I can see at least 3 nurse appointments at our main site in the next two weeks that could suit your needs. Please do get in touch and speak with Ella, Sophie or Cindy.

Dear Chris Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. Patients are added to a triage list and contacted within two working days. e.g. If you were added to the list on Tuesday you can expect to hear by Thursday latest. At least two contact attempts are made. If you'd like to provide more details to the team so your particular case can be investigated, please get in touch.

  3. Review titled Prompt responses.

I contacted the surgery via econsult because of a really bad throat about 3pm yesterday. Two hours later I received a call from a doctor who listened to the problem and questioned me before saying "you need to be seen by a doctor. I can book you in for tomorrow is that OK?" I agreed and she told me the name of the doctor I would see. So this morning I saw a very kindly GP who examined me, prescribed antibiotics and took swabs to send away. He told me that if I didn't feel better in 7 days I should come back. I was treated promptly, with great kindness and patience from econsult through to receiving my medication. I have been with this surgery for many years and they have always been good but I thought this was an outstanding and efficient mix of use of technology, medical skill and old fashioned kindness.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback, it was shared with the team at the time and as good feedback always does, it gave everyone a boost. I apologise for the lack of acknowledgement via this site. The team work hard to provide good patient care and receiving positive feedback assures us we are getting things right. Thank you.

  4. Review titled Telephone Service needs modernising

Every time I call the surgery the call is rarely answered. They don't have a call management system so you have no idea where you are in the queue, and you often just get cut off when holding for a long time.

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback. The practice has made many improvements with lines of communication and our new telephone system let's you know where you are in the queue, allows for a 'ring back' facility and does not cut you off. We also have a method of contacting us online via our website and through the NHS App. If you would like support with online services, please get in touch and Lysette, our IT and data Quality Lead can help you.
