    I requested a health check and saw a health care assistant or practice nurse. (She didn't introduce herself.) Her first shouted question was 'do you know why you are here today?' , assuming I was both deaf and senile. Her questions and comments throughout were patronising and stereotyping. I am 79 but inependent, fit, active and mentally sound as are many people my age. I challenged her approach but she didn't appear capable of modifying it. I was shocked and angry to be treated like this by my GP practice, where I have only had positive experiences since joining it in 2001. I hate to think that less confident people might have been much more damaged by the experience. Urgent retraining is required if this is the general approach being used.

    Thank you for your comments and I have spoken to the two HCAs that saw you. They apologise for the way they may have come across but assured me they were not trying to patronise you. One of the HCAs has been here for 18 years and gets fantastic feedback from all the patients so I am a bit surprised that you were offended by her.     I love St James practice. From the receptionist to nurses, the blood tests and of course the doctors. Like the awesome doc I seen this morning. It was only meant to be a phone appointment but he asked me if I could come to the surgery to meet face to face. He was wonderful, went through all my history and showed so much concern and he listened to me. Feel I'm moving forward with my medical needs and I'm truly grateful for the care I was shown. Wish I'd made a note of his name, but Tank you all....

    Some of the staff are very helpful extremely happy with general assistant the nurses are amazing. They listen to your concerns. Some of the front desk staff can be rude and not very understanding

    I called the surgery on Thursday afternoon for my dads prescription that we urgently needed as due to the pharmacy being incompetent the request was not put in time. I got through to a lady who was not able to aid me with my query as she was training so asked me to hold whilst she passed me onto her senior. The senior lady kindly explained how the new staff member is currently in training and she would happily help with my request. She said she will speak to a gp to see if a gp could prescribe the medication for today. I recieved a call after about 40 mins informing me the medication had been done. Both members of staff had great telephone manners and worked together to help me so I thank them and the gp for their prompt work.

    I like this practice. For the entire time that I was dealing with problems (the child's and my own), I received good advice from the wonderful girls at the reception window and treatment from the doctors.

    although the doctors provide a good service, getting the appointment is extremely difficult. The system used to book an appointment is difficult to use. The surgery never answers the phone no matter what time you call. Doctors often do not call within the 48 hours timeframe they give, which means to you have to physically go into the surgery to chase up. The surgery never conyacts you regarding a blood test result when there is a concern. If you do not chase them up, they will never chase you. The reception staff are often rude.

    Thank you for your feedback. We have recently implemented a link to Klinik when you phone the surgery on your mobile and press button 1 for an appointment, this should let you go through the process of getting an appointment once you detail what your problem is. Once you submit your application your request will be triaged and you will receive a response in 48 hours,(not necessarily an appointment) that maybe a text message to say you will get a call from the GP or you may get a call from reception to book an appointment face to face with a clinician. It all depends on the urgency of the problem which determins the priority of appointments. If you have difficulty using the on line process you can phone reception or come to the surgery an a receptionist will complete the appointment application for you. Often patients believe their blood results are urgent and should be notified immediately which is not the case, when your results come to the surgery they are looked at by a GP straight away, if they are deemed urgent you will be booked an appointment with a GP in 1/2 days to discuss your results, if however they are not deemed to be urgent a task is sent from the GP to reception to book you a routine appointment which may be in 3 weeks time. Last year we offered 70,853 appointments of which 38,957 were with a GP, we also handled 143,879 telephone calls an average of 11,989 per month, the average waiting time in the queue was under 6 minutes which is exceptional for any company let alone a GP surgery. Unfortunately you have posted this feedback as anonymously, however if you call the surgery and identify yourself and ask for the Practice Manager we can discuss the matter further in a meeting.

    This GP only accepts online requests for an appointment through the Klinic system between specific times (8-10am???). It’s of course impossible to get through on the phone, especially at lunch time when the phone lines are closed for 2 hours. This seems to have changed recently (in the last 6 months), previously they accepted online forms 24 hours a day. And there has been no communication to patients about this change. This is frustrating but I wouldn’t mind if this system was well communicated by staff, by the voicemail, and by the website. However when you try to fill out the online form outside of these hours you are just told to try again tomorrow (no mention of the time restrictions, which is very unusual for an online system). I wasted nearly a week checking every day and just being asked try again tomorrow. I have now used this service twice in the past 3 months and have noticed that there is still no communication about this process on the website or phone line. This is completely indefensible and will cause delays and many people to give up completely (especially those who are more vulnerable or already struggling with the online system). I have major concerns that this lack of communication will cause adverse health outcomes for many people, which will cause delays in diagnosis and treatment and more pressure on the NHS. Also, it is more work for the receptionists who must have to relay this information many times a day when patients do finally get through. Please address this lack of communication about this complex and confusing process otherwise I will make a formal complaint.

    Thank you for your feedback, Our on line system changed just over a year ago. With the previous system which was open 24/7 (On line consultation) we discovered a flaw which could possibly be unsafe. If a person completed the online consultation after the Surgery closed on a Friday evening we would not be able to see the application until Monday morning which may be too late if the patient needs to be seen urgently. The second problem was when completing the on line application and your case was deemed urgent needing immediate attention you would receive a message directing you to go to A&E and the application would not come through to the surgery. If you decided to ignore the advice and something were to happen to you, we would not know about it. We therefore changed to Klinik, we have had some teething problems with it but it is better than the old system and safer. We do have the capability to alter the opening hours of the on line appointment booking however if it is not open you can phone the surgery and request a Receptionist complete the booking on your behalf

    We had a lovely experience with a doctor at this practice. The doctor acknowledged my child and they made them feel comfortable and at ease. They spoke to them on their level and did a thorough check before ruling anything out There was no rushing and everything was explained in full. There was lots of reassurance and information given at the pace I wanted. Seen pretty quickly, not much waiting. Had a phone call first before being asked to visit in person. Lovely experience and lovely doctor. 100% would recommend.
