Review titled Difficult to make an appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Diane Inchley - Posted on 04 February 2025
Two days ago I called the surgery at 8.10am to make an appointment for a worsening cough which I informed the receptionist is in its fifth week. Sorry I was told you can only make an appointment now for something that has occurred in the last 24 to 48 hours - call back at 1pm. Today I called back shortly after 1 pm yo be told the first appointment available is 19th February- 2 weeks time. NHS state see your doctor for a cough that lasts more than 3 weeks, this time frame adds another two weeks. After sharing my frustration with the receptionist, she said try calling in the morning at 8am for an urgent appointment. You just end up going round in circles and not achieving the much needed appointment. After my further complaining about this situation, she said I can refer you to the Pharmacy and they will assess you and prescribe if appropriate. The Pharmacy I opted for turned me away because they cannot assess where a cough is present, the referral from the Doctors had stated a sore throat!

Review titled Appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by GAIL CAROLINE BAZELEY - Posted on 24 January 2025
I was invited for a COVID and Flu injection but as I work 6 days a week they were not able to give me an appointment after 3 pm. I have also received a mail to go for Cervical screening but there are absolutely no appointments available. I have tried to get an appointment to see a Dr and they basically refuse to give you an appointment. I have honestly never known anything like it in my life. I called to get an appointment for after 3 to see a Dr and I was told there is no appointments at all available which just doesn't seem right. I own my a business and I am not able to get out during the day so need a late appointment but just cannot get one . Something seriously needs to be done the receptionists should not be refusing people appointments!!!!!!!!

Review titled Not fit for purpose

Tried to book in today in pain with some very concerning symptoms to be told it will be a week before I can see a doctor!!! Absolutely disgraceful!!! Why is St Johns surgery advertised online as taking new patients when your current patients are being told its a week to see a doctor??? The media tell us if we have an issue we should contact our local GP as it could be cancer!!! When you do it's week before you can see a GP!!! Bet if I walk into the surgery now the waiting room is empty!

Review titled Refusal to give 4 year old appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Sophie - Posted on 01 November 2024
I rang at 8am, waited 30 minutes in the queue, to be refused a doctors appointment for my 4 year old in pain. I checked if they had appointments available still, and they did, but my daughter "fits the criteria to see a pharmacist first". I practically begged for her to see a GP. I explained she is in a lot of pain and she is only 4 - but the receptionist was not budging. I complained earlier in the year direct to the surgery regarding their refusal to give my son an appointment after he had a painful problem with his eyes - they told me that needed to be a prebookable - despite the fact he was 7 years old and his notes clearly said to come back if this continued. A child should never be denied an appointment. It's Friday, so if this isn't treated, we will now have to go to A&E which I assume will be a larger cost on the NHS, or ask my 4 year old to wait until Monday? Terrible.

Review titled Please modernise your appointment booking system
Rated 1 star out of 5

I want to express my growing frustration with the difficulties in securing an appointment at this surgery, even for pre-booked or same-day slots. Despite calling nearly every day, I am repeatedly told to call back later or the following day, with no resolution provided. Recently, I have been trying to book a non-urgent appointment for my child. However, the delay in securing one has now made the situation more pressing. When I call at 8am, and am asked if it’s an emergency, I answer honestly that it isn’t and am then refused an appointment. I am advised to call back at 1pm., but by then, appointments are often fully booked due to the high demand. I understand the immense pressures surgeries are facing, but the current system for obtaining an appointment is clearly ineffective. Unlike other surgeries in the area that utilise digital technology, yours relies solely on telephone appointments, which are only available at 8am and 1pm. These times are particularly inconvenient for working individuals like myself. For instance, at 8am, I am often driving to work, and at 1pm, I am in an office with limited phone reception. I try stepping outside to call, only to find myself in a queue of 30 or more. Opting for a call-back doesn’t resolve the issue either, as I’m often back in my office when the surgery attempts to contact me, making it impossible to coordinate. It’s baffling why an online booking system with email or text confirmation cannot be implemented when so many other surgeries have adopted this approach successfully. The experience of seeking care at your surgery is disheartening and deeply frustrating, especially when children’s health is involved. My previous surgery, though equally busy, managed to prioritise children’s appointments and offered a system that worked for patients. I urge the surgery to review and modernise the appointment booking process to better serve your patients' needs. I really hope they will address these concerns promptly to improve access and service quality for everyone.

Review titled Awful Booking System for Covid Jabs
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 November 2024
The receptionists here just don’t seem to know what they are doing. I’ve had to cancel my Covid jab twice recently due to illness and when I tried to rebook it, I’ve been told that I’m not eligible, despite the fact that I was clearly eligible only several day prior when I was originally booked in. I explained that I am double eligible due to being immune suppressed and a front-line NHS worker, but the receptionist wouldn’t budge, even though my medical notes and record was right in front of them. I’ve now had to book a jab online with a pharmacy I have never been to before and have to travel further to get to because this surgery doesn’t seem capable of training its staff to read patient notes. Appalling.

Review titled Fantastic service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I experienced a very worrying episode of vision loss on Friday and called the surgery for advice. I was booked in that afternoon and after seeing the doctor who put my mind at ease I was referred to an optician who also saw me straight away. I was so impressed by the efficiency and care I received. I've only been with the surgery a little over a year and have been impressed from the very start with how great they are.

Review titled Rude staff , no help and fobbed off everyday
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 30 November 2023
Honestly so fed up, you call almost everyday to get a pre booked appointment or even an appointment on the day and you’re constantly fobbed off to call tomorrow. The staff are rude telling you they’re trying to help but they do nothing to help…. The whole run of this practice is so so poor. Patients are not put first but yet only a number. If it wasn’t for the fact one doctor I like seeing because when you do eventually get an appointment they help but apart from that I would have left ages ago !

Review titled Good luck getting an appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 October 2023
The booking system is fundamentally flawed. It is mere impossible to get an appointment, even a non urgent one. The sheer lack of putting patients first is evident from the automated response on the telephone when calling the surgery; which does its best to warn you off attempting to make an appointment by saying you should only call if it is "urgent". Surely if it was urgent, you would be calling the emergency services. In any event, if you do not call within minutes of 8am to get an appointment on the day or within minutes of 1pm to get an appointment next week, you wont get one. Oh, and they can't book further ahead then that .... i'm not sure why?! On my third attempt today to get a routine appointment (non-urgent) and told to call again tomorrow. Waiting in a call queue of 30 people. Each time getting dismissed. I was told to come into the surgery in-person to book, but like many of us, I do have a job and like many of us, I am at work so cannot always call bang on 1pm. I am truly lost for words as to how difficult it is to get an appointment and such a waste of time for myself and the surgery having masses of people on hold, to be told that no appointments are available. The booking system doesn't work. It is unfair and entirely unrealistic to expect patients to have to abide by the regimented times to call, in order to get an appointment.

Review titled Worst Practice
Rated 1 star out of 5

Long waiting hours after the appointment time to see a GP. have visited st johns surgery bromsgrove with my kids 6-7 times in the last 6 months and i have waited minimum 35 minus to 1 hour 30 minutes after my appointment time for all the times to see a GP except for vaccinations. I don't know if it happens only for me or all the people. but it's the worst experience with my 10 months, 4 and 6 years kids waiting hours to see a GP after my appointment time. and I have been in the GP almost 15-30 mins before the appointment and i haven't spent more than 15 mins on any appointment. Some of them are quick 5 mins too, because anything goes with specialist referral. Why do I need to waste my valuable 2 hours to see a GP after an appointment.
