  1. Review titled Coughs and Colds

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Karishma Bhanji - Posted on 13 January 2025

I called for a GP appointment due to very bad flu symptoms.I don’t usually go to a GP for a cold.I made an exception this time as it has been many years since flu symptoms have left me completely wiped out and void of energy. The receptionist I am pleased to say was polite and professional enough and showed some empathy when she heard my chesty cough down the phone. She advised the GP will not see patients for cold and flu symptoms as they are seasonal unless it has been at least 3weeks but advised of a new service they now provide where they can ‘send’ people to a pharmacy. She explained I would get to speak to a pharmacist who would talk to me in a consultation room and they have the ability to prescribe antibiotics or antivirals etc and she then took my details and told me to go the particular pharmacy after 9am today anytime until they close. I hadn’t even been downstairs for 4 days so low were my energy levels but I made the effort to take a taxi to the Applegate pharmacy. My experience was horrendous.I walked into the Applegate pharmacy entrance to canning pharmacy - I saw a counter and saw no sign of life as I approached it. I walked to the other side where I could see the staff members & pharmacists dispensing prescriptions. I stood there for 5 minutes and I could see them chatting but none of them acknowledged my presence. So I walked back to the original counter I had seen and someone finally asked me if I’d been seen to so I said “not yet.” I then said I’d phoned St Luke’s and they’d asked me to come here. The assistant got me to write my name and date of birth once she understood it was a referral (she was friendly)and asked what my symptoms were. She went to relay these to the pharmacist. She came back to ask me what the worst symptom was so I told her it was the chesty cough. Then the pharmacist himself finally came out and the level of disinterest was clear as day on his face.He was not bothered. It was clear he had no intention of of exploring my symptoms, possible causes, or even talking to me in a consultation room.He had no empathy or care or concern and he showed complete indifference on the shop floor as I said the coughing was keeping me up all night and the chesty cough was so strong it was making me throw up and I’d not had flu symptoms that wiped me out like this. He told me to take paracetamol 4 times a day (which I was already doing) and in a bored voice asked if I’d tried chesty cough medicine. I said no, I’d just taken stuff to soothe my throat so far but I might need antivirals (I’d spoken to a GP friend who had suggested the same) so he said ‘if it’s a virus your body will fight it.’ He told me I should take a chesty cough medicine so I asked if he could at least recommend one so he picked one up from behind the counter and sold it to me. I was appalled with the service. If St Luke’s are partnering up with a pharmacy to take on such cases they should use one willing to give the service. What a waste of my time and energy!

St Luke's are sorry that you have felt like this and would recommend that as your complaint is predominantly about another service. You contact them direct.

I will look into your review appointment as soon as the surgery reopens and aim to resolve this issue. We close every 2nd Tuesday of the month for staff training, omitting August and December. We did publish a notice on the door today and this information is also published on our website. Apologies if you did not see this. Repeat prescriptions can be posted through the letterbox during times of closure.

i was allocated to this surgery, mine closed, i always had a good relationship with my previous dr, i don`t do crowds so i was given two monthly prescriptions i put my request in for repeat medication by hand, and online access to order further meds online, collected prescription today only twenty eight tablets instead of the usual fifty six. and still waiting for online access code to be sent. do dr`s realise it now takes from four to seven days for pharmacies to have meds ready?

  4. Review titled Great Customer Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Dee - Posted on 09 September 2024

I popped in today without an appointment concerned about my blood pressure and not feeling well. One of the receptionist told me there were no appointments. She showed no sympathy and quoted apparently she wants to see a doctor. She directed me to the Health Centre. At that moment a lady stepped in and offered to take my blood pressure in s side room. She also consulted with a Nurse they were both very sympathetic took my blood pressure and gave lots of good advice which reassured me. I was very pleased the way they supported me and I had no appointment. I would like to say thank you to both of them for their emphathy time and help.

  5. Review titled Excellent patient care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Audrian Smith - Posted on 27 June 2024

I had cause to visit one of the GP's & managed to book an appointment on the same day that I was seeing the practice nurse for cervical screening. Both the GP & the practice nurse (the latter who I'd met for the 1st time) were extremely friendly, knowlegeable & reassuring & my appointments achieved what I went in for. The practice manager is also approachable & always answers any queries I may have. Many thanks to you all.

  6. Review titled Extremely efficient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Audrian - Posted on 03 January 2024

Whilst the surgery was closed over the new year, I realised that my medication would only last until 1st January. I requested my prescription online at about 08:00 on 2nd January & included a comment to say that (for the 1st time ever) I had just run out of 1 of my tablets. By about 13:30 my medication was delivered to my home address! This is just one example of the excellent care I've received from the team over the last 25 years or so. Thank you to all the team at St. Luke's surgery.

  7. Review titled Awful

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have had several sick notes and various strong medication prescribed to me yet I haven’t been able to see an actual doctor at this place for quite a few years! Maybe if I’d of had proper gp care I might not be in the circumstances I’m in. Would not recommend St Luke’s to anybody!

  8. Review titled Excellent Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rehana Wafa - Posted on 27 August 2023

Find reception staff helpful and doctors knowledgeable, prompt and efficient. I phoned in at 8am was 11th in the queue waited 15 minutes on the line, which is an acceptable wait when you compare to other institutions and companies, and was booked an appointment at 10am to see the doctor face to face. Was actually seen two minutes before my appointment time. Prescription was sent to my chemist electronically and was at work by 10.30am. Excellent experience. Highly recommend St Lukes.
