Review titled You won't get an appointment so try alternatives first
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 14 November 2024
Tried to get an appointment for being unwell as I suspected my long term health condition was worsening, was texted by GP and told to go to Urgent Treatment Centre. Urgent Treatment Centre said symptoms are linked to long term condition I have, and subsequently didn't treat me and told me to go back to the GP. In the same month I caught an acute bacterial infection, nothing a course of antibiotics couldn't solve, but when I tried to get an appointment to be examined, I was given a telephone number for a Centre up North. Haven't been able to get an appointment here for love nor money and I think it's GPs like this that put strain on A&Es and walk in Centres. So don't waste your time filling out an eConsult and waiting two days to be told to call or go somewhere else. Especially if its a condition well within the remit of a GP. Try your local Pharmacist first, then Urgent Treatment Centres, then A&E as a very last resort. If you have a long term health condition, see if you can go private, some private health check ups will give you access to a GP line as part of the one off cost.

Review titled Excellent Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Adrian Natella - Posted on 20 November 2024
I did an on line referral and per given timescales, I received a phone call. The person on the phone suggested I had a face to face appointment, which was made for a couple of days later. When I turned up, the appointment was on time. The triage nurse I saw, made sure I had the correct care and had also arranged for me to see the people I needed to see. I came away feeling re assured and with a forward care plan for my needs. Everyone at the surgery was friendly and helpful, my only complaint would be and this has nothing to do with the care that I received, but as someone who has a spinal injury the chairs weren't very comfortable.

I had an appointment at St Marys surgery Southampton at 13.30 this afternoon. I arrived at 13.25, but the surgery doors were locked until 13.30. After I entered the surgery and signed in, I was told I was at the wrong surgery, and to speak to the receptionist. I was then told that they had no record of my appointment. After doodling on her computor for awhile she said she had found my appointment and to wait until called. After waiting since 13.30, a locum doctor called me at 14.20, then had the gall to say that I was very late, and it was lucky that she was seeing me. I tried to explain to her that it was the receptionist who caused me to be late. The locum doctor was telling me completely different things what my last doctor told me. Not a satisfactory story at all

Review titled Excellent
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I've been a member of this practice for many years but (fortunately!) never had to use it until recently. Hearing so much negativity about the current state of health services, I wasn't sure what to expect. After having breathing difficulties, I phoned the surgery for advice. A doctor called me back within 30 minutes and an appointment was arranged for 2 hours later. After then being diagnosed with a heart problem, I was given some medication. The doctor called me the next day to see how I was doing (not great!), and arranged another appointment for the next day. On attending I was told I needed to go straight to hospital. The doctor gave me letter to give to A&E which summarised my condition/treatment, and the hospital staff commented how useful this was in getting me admitted quickly. The aftercare from the surgery since my discharge has been outstanding. I've seen multiple nurses for tests etc., and have found them all to be superb. The surgery is easily contactable by phone (even if it takes a few minutes to get through) and appointments are arranged promptly. Questions & queries are answered promptly & professionally by the reception staff. Altogether a superb and extremely reassuring service. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Arrived at surgery at 2pm with no appointment, asking about a repeat script. It was not available. Reception team discussed with triage. Booked in for triage appointment. Seen within 5 minutes. Problem evaluated. Helpful information given. Script issued to pharmacy. Reception team rang and arranged a taxi home too. Helpful, friendly, polite, problem solving, and a ‘can do’ ethos. Very impressed.

we had been trying to see the gp for my 4 year old son for months because of a cough, tiredness and tonsils. Never any help. We were on holiday and took him to a private Dr. they did blood tests and chest xray. Turns out he was very sick. Came back to the uk and tried to get in touch with gp, got an appointment with a practice Dr, was told the European test are not valid and can't get a blood test here, still his actual gp won't contact us. We went to the Emergency room and they got him on medication, We need more medication and the receptionists refuse to do it, have to fight with them to get more. Still no reply from his gp. now we have had a chest xray and blood tests in uk,he is finished his medication but we have no one to check the results because for some reason his gp will not contact us. We have made multiple requests for a call back and still nothing. We have an actual sick child, his cough is coming back and the gp practice doesn't care, the receptionists give out confidential information over the phone, things they shouldn't be talking about because they are not Dr. or nurse. Its been such a bad experience.

Review titled Awful.

After 7 weeks of trying to get an appointment I give up. You have to submit a E consultation which is only open for less than 45 mins a day from 8am,often it is switched off at 08:30. For those of us who have early starts it is impossible to fill the form in within the the period. I have a number of chronic health conditions that require a review of treatment, along with a letter from a specialist at the hospital stating I need to speak to my GP about a change in my care plan. That's wishful thinking ! You cannot book a appointment via face to face interaction nor or the phone. This is a total waste of time.

For three weeks i’ve tried to book an appointment, the receptionists have informed me I cannot; not that they’re busy- that they physically will not book an appointment. Moving GP surgery.

Review titled Prompt Attention
Rated 4 stars out of 5

I recently called St Mary’s Surgery at 8am on a Monday morning and was told I was 13th in line so continued to hold. My call was answered by a friendly lady who took a brief reason for my call and was told I would receive a call back to triage. I received a call shortly afterwards and was given an appointment that same morning. I arrived for my appointment, checked in quickly and saw the Dr on time. She was welcoming and very thorough and dispensed a prescription for me. I am very impressed with the care I received and would like to thank all members of staff concerned
