  1. Review titled Communication needs improving to prevent errors

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 July 2024

Requested a prescription via website and specifically asked for it to be sent to a different pharmacy, as I've moved. They made an error and sent to old pharmacy. I've not yet changed GP as I'm in the middle of diagnostics and appointments for another condition. After 15 minutes on hold, I got to speak to a receptionist who, whilst very pleasant and kind-sounding, talked over me the entire time, and because of that, kept giving me the wrong information, telling me it was at the new pharmacy, despite me trying to tell her I'd had a text telling me it was at the old one! The data system is clearly a mess, as I was then passed on to a new person who kept referring to a completely irrelevant a condition back in February, and kept telling me she was looking at the screen and couldn't see anything about this new prescription (despite me having received a text from them to say it's ready!). But somehow she could still tell it had been issued on 1st July?! She only started back-tracking when I told her I had a screenshot of the web request. I've always found this practice pretty good, and the staff helpful (except when they gave my child the entirely wrong vaccine, which I only found out because I asked for a printed record, but that's another story!), and I appreciate the pressure the entire NHS staff base is under. However, this does not excuse the situation today - both people I spoke to were defensive, and neither was actually properly listening to what I was saying. Both made me feel that I had created the problem, and that it was not theirs to solve. "This is what happens when you move out of catchment!" Was one response. I now have an hour's journey to collect the prescription, and only got a grudging apology at the end of the call. Instead of making excuses, they should have listened properly, and said right from the start "I'm really sorry, it does look like we've made an error, but unfortunately we can't recall the prescription and re-issue it, due to fraud concerns. We understand how frustrating that must be, and we're very sorry you're now going to have to make such a long trip to get your medicine. We'll flag this up and ensure that prescription requests made through the website are read thoroughly in future, before actioning them." It would have saved time for both of us.

  3. Review titled Excellent staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was a bit nervous coming in for my cervical screen this morning, but the practice nurse who was so professional, informative and very reassuring. A real credit to her profession. I would definitely recommend this practice. All the GPs that I have seen in the past have also been great and the reception team are always so helpful. Thank you

  5. Review titled Caring Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was in my staff room at work this week and heard lots of people complaining about not being able to get an appointment at their GP surgery or discussing how rude the receptionists were. As a teacher, I also know what it feels like to get constant moaning and groaning/ complaints and negative rumours about your organisation. I didn’t want to fall into the trap of only every writing in when there’s a problem, so I wanted to write in and say how wonderful Tadworth medical centre has been to my family. I had an appointment this week and was once again so happy with the service I received. My appointment was on time and the doctor (I’m really sorry I didn’t take her name) was so kind and genuinely caring. I understand how much pressure GP surgeries are under at the moment, but she didn’t make me feel rushed at all and really listened to me. She was also great with my toddler who I had to take to the appointment with me, she gave him a toy dinosaur to play with and gave him a book to take home which has made his day, he hasn’t put it down. My family and I have always been able to get an appointment in a timely fashion and have always been greeted with kind, helpful receptionists and friendly, caring doctors. I just wanted to say thank you to you all, what a wonderful service you’re all providing. Please pass this on to anyone in your practice that needs to hear this! Samantha Henry

  6. Review titled Made to feel I’m wasting their time

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Joe Bugden - Posted on 05 September 2023

I recently went to the gp regarding headaches, I told the gp that I had a sleep study booked for possible sleep apnea and we both agreed to wait for the outcome before continuing investigating the headaches. My blood pressure was high so the gp prescribed medication to bring this down, and asked me to get an ECG and kidney scan done, it was not explained to me why these test were being done. In the next few weeks the gp kept in contact asking for blood pressure readings, increasing my dose as it was not coming down. After a few weeks it came down to a level the gp was happy with. I had the ECG and kidney scan done and was then diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea, which looking at the NHS website can lead to heart disease and kidney issues. I believe that I may have had sleep apnea for many years as I’ve had symptoms but thought it’s just headaches they’ll go, but as my wife and I are now expecting our first child I thought I best get them checked out in case it was something more serious. I then did not hear anything about test results until I queried them after finding out I did indeed have sleep apnea, a full 10 weeks later… I was told a gp would call me to discuss the results in 5 days time, this only added to my worry. I did not receive a call in the afternoon as I was told so sent another request about 6:30pm to the gp surgery requesting I get a call the following day. The gp did actually call me that night at 8:30pm. He said that I had some tests done a few weeks back and ‘what was it I wanted to know’ he sounded very uninterested and made me feel like I was just wasting his time. I explained I haven’t heard anything about the results and want to know if everything’s okay as it’s been so long, I mean what is the point in sending me for tests without giving me the result? His response was ‘well there’s nothing significant, and the scan was okay but a slightly fatty liver which can be helped by following a weight loss diet, so anything else’ I was so taken aback that I did not tell him that after reading about sleep apnea it can lead to heart disease and kidney issues that I have been worrying nonstop. I did mention that my blood pressure had risen again, and the response was ‘well it was fine a week ago so carry on with medication you have and let us know if it changes’ I feel that I left in the dark regarding why the test were done and the outcomes that could have been linked to my health condition. I was then made to feel a nuisance for asking for the results.

  7. Review titled Just Amazing.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The receptionists are always so helpful, our Doctors are incredibly knowledgeable and a pleasure to meet. The only downside with this practice is the online booking system, designed by a computer expert, with little thought for the older generation. We do our best but it is extremely frustrating, and usually ends up having to ask the receptionist, which defeats the purpose.

  8. Review titled Great Practice Providing Quality Service, Care and Treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Nadine - Posted on 27 June 2023

I called the surgery yesterday as my 90 year old Auntie had a water infection. The receptionist was polite and kind and although the appointments were fully booked she appreciated the dangers of a UTI in an elderly patient and said she would speak to a doctor. I received a call just over 1.5 hours later from a fantastic and caring doctor who arranged an urgent antibiotic for my Auntie and advised me that if the symptoms didn't get any better in the next few days to call again and my auntie would be seen. What great service, care and treatment. Thank you for providing such fantastic health care.

I made an online appointment request at 7am. Seen in person by a fantastic GP at 1.30pm and heard from the hospital following her urgent referral at 2pm. Amazing! Thank you so much for your outstanding care.

  10. Review titled Fantastic support at time of real need

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Andy K - Posted on 05 August 2022

Just had my first real need for NHS care - an emergency heart bypass. Support from Tadworth Medical Centre could not have been better both before and after surgery. Doctors I have seen have both been excellent and I found the reception staff went out of their way for me. It’s a shame that several other reviewers have marked the practice down on one poor experience after years of good care. Covid has clearly had an impact on all GP practices but in my view this one remains one of the best - critically with some of the best GPs in the area.
