  1. Review titled Very poor practice

by Robert Hateley - Posted on 28 October 2024

I’ve been suffering from severe swelling of feet ankles and legs and needed an appointment to see a doctor. I was told to fill in a triage form which I did on 16 October, and waited for someone to get back with an appointment. I phoned the surgery today 28 October, after waiting over a week to enquire when my appointment would be and I was told they said that they didn’t have any appointments for at least a week and a half, which would mean I would have to have wait almost a month to see a doctor. My legs feel so swollen they feel like they are going to explode which makes walking very difficult and painful and I already have arthritis. I have to walk long distances in my job and can walk 21 km in two days and I don’t know how long I can go like this. I believe that my blood pressure tablets may have contributed to it and need to see a doctor to be able to change them. I’ve looked on Google and Amlodipine can cause swelling to the legs, ankles and feet but it also warns to get it checked as it might not be the medication but something more serious like a heart condition. It’s causing me such extreme anxiety not being able to get to see a doctor that I have no choice now but to change to another practice where I can be seen as quickly as 48 hours once I’ve registered with them, which is better than waiting another week and a half to see a doctor at my current practice. It’s like the lottery. Who decides who will be seen and who won’t. I feel very letdown.

Dear Mr Hateley, Firstly, please let me take this opportunity to sincerely apologise for any distress caused as it it is never our intention to upset our patients. I have spoken to the reception team asking them to contact you and offer you an urgent appointment today. I would like to assure you that I will be looking in to this matter as to why you were waiting so long. Kind Regards Practice Manager

  2. Review titled Great Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Staff at this surgery are very helpful, kind, polite and treat everyone with respect. The only criticism I have is that you have to book an appointment online now, luckily I act on behalf of my Mother, so \i am able to book appointments for her myself. There are many patients that may not be as lucky as my Mother, and may not have anyone to do this on there behalf. Especially elderly patients who may have Dementia or other disabilities, plus may not have a mobile phone. My Mother only has a landline and therefore could not have completed a online form. I do think that for this reason there still should be a dedicated number that patients can call who may otherwise miss out on treatment that they need. Perhaps even have a mark on a patients record to say that needs assistance might be a good idea. The Doctor my Mother saw was really good, and her bedside manner was fantastic, she put my Mother at ease.

  3. Review titled Poor practice.

Called for appointment for my grandad on Friday 12th. Explained he had paramedics out on the advice of 111 few days before and needed a gp appointment for medical referrals and assessment. Tried to call no appointments they sent him a link but he couldn't use it. Called again Friday asked for an appointment, was told needed to fill in form on link wigh his concerns and they would assess what was needed. Filled told GP would call. No call, No contact or appointment. Now got to call again Monday. Really poor service.

  4. Review titled Awesome staff, not so great service

Rated 3 stars out of 5

The surgery is a nice place, and the staff are very helpful, but unfortunately it appears to be nearly impossible to book an appointment at this surgery these days. I have been back and forth to a pharmacy about my issue, but I need to see a doctor or nurse. I have on occasion in the past ended up having to visit A&E for something very minor, because I was not able to get an appointment here. Waiting on hold for more than ten minutes to be told no appointments are available becomes tiresome, and it is looking like I will have to visit A&E again for something that should be being dealt with at a surgery.

Have had to visit harlequin surgery twice in the last week due to an ongoing chest infection, yes I did have to be patient when phoning to try to make an appointment, got through after a short while, the receptionists are always helpful, polite, and considerate of the patients condition. Well done all, this is such a difficult time for the NHS, I have travelled far an wide and I always say we have a great service which we should all be so very proud of.
