Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Derek Greenwood - Posted on 01 April 2025
The doctor is a very conciencous and thorough. She has a caring nature. I first went 6 months ago when I was having problems with my heart and pacemaker. She instantly sent md to hospital where I was kept in for 4 nights for tests. She knows what she is doing. Thank you so much

Review titled Unable to get appointments
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 24 January 2025
What can i say have been at this practice for 30 years with the wonderful dr before his retirement. Have met only once the new lady doctor ..I try to keep healthy and am 72 years old..unfortunately I have come down with this years strain on flue. I called to get medication antibiotics which i dont like taking unless emergency the receptionist refused to help thank god my pharmacy opposite managed somehow to get. Then 3 days later i needed a acid reflux medication and was told by receptionist you cant speak to doctor as you only need more medication fgs..rang every day got through at 8.15 no appointments telephone or otherwise.. a week after finishing antibiotics i have a very bad chest infection..I have not been able to speak to my gp and my appointment i have been given is February 13th Fgs...I have requested more antibiotics which I hate taking but havnt been able to speak to a medical professional for advice....111 is there only awnser but the first week i was projectile vomiting unable to speak or leave my house..I didnt want to take up corridor room at A&E .as someone who was more elderly and infirm needed a bed...We are not in Covid so why should it feel that appointments are notavailable and non medical trained receptionist telling you otherwise..So so disappointed and so would the previous retired Dr have been ..It is terrible am disgusted

Dear Patient; Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of The Leigh Surgery. We are very sorry to read your comments and that you have been unwell, we do hope you are now feeling much better. Following the pandemic the demand for appointments at this practice and practices across the county and nationally has risen exponentially, unfortunately we and our GP colleagues throughout the UK are unable to meet the demand without additional funding from central government to provide much needed additional GP's/Nurses and ancillary staff appointments. The process for appointment booking at The Leigh Surgery is as follows: Patients are able to sign up for the NHS App/System online app and book appointments online, alternatively they can telephone the practice from 8am, Mondays-Fridays to book a same day GP appointment or an appointment in advance ( currently booking for 3 weeks ahead at present) The telephone system The Leigh Surgery uses permits patients to request a "call back" from the receptionist should they not wish to "hang on" in the queue, this facility works very well and as such we would actively encourage you to take up this option when you need to telephone the surgery in the future. Obtaining a same day appointment appears to be slightly easier towards the end of the week when the demand has reduced. Patients are also welcome to attend the surgery in person from 8.15am Monday-Friday to book an appointment in person if they would prefer this option rather than telephoning. We do recognise how difficult it can be to secure a GP appointment however as explained above we simply do not have the resources or capacity to increase our appointment availability. We would suggest you start calling for a same day appointment at 8am instead of 8.15am as you outlined in your review as unfortunately it is likely all same day appointments will have been taken by the time you call at 8.15am. With regard to your request for seeing a Doctor with regard to a repeat medication request, all patients are informed that the quickest and easiest option to request a repeat prescription is to order via a nominated pharmacy, using the NHS App or dropping a written request into the surgery, we also have a practice base pharmacist with whom you can book an appointment if you wish to discuss your repeat medication, this may be something you would like to consider in the future. It is disappointing to read of your dissatisfaction with the care afforded to you by The Leigh Surgery all staff at The Leigh Surgery work tirelessly for the good of our patients to ensure they receive a high level of care, compassion and consideration in a safe environment, we are very sorry you did not experience this level of care when you contacted the surgery recently for which we apologise most profusely. Yours Sincerely Dr Pankaj & Dr Marina Gupta

Review titled No Appointments Available - Unprofessional Receptionist
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 December 2024
I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by the reception team at this GP practice. Some of the receptionists are rude, unprofessional, and arrogant. Despite calling for two weeks straight at 8 am and waiting on hold for nearly 20 minutes each time, I was repeatedly told that no appointments were available. This is unacceptable, especially since the pressures of the COVID-19 period have passed, and there is no valid excuse for such poor service anymore. This used to be a great GP under the previous management, but the current state of the practice is appalling. On one occasion, instead of apologising for the lack of available appointments, the receptionist began questioning my personal circumstances, including what job I do and why I couldn't attend their only available slot. When I asked why they needed this information, the receptionist abruptly hung up the phone. This behavior is completely unacceptable and unprofessional.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of The Leigh Surgery. We are very sorry to read your comments. We would inform you that since the surgery was taken over by new partners in October 2023 the management of the surgery has remained unchanged, our current Practice Manager has been employed at the practice since January 2015. The appointment booking process you refer to has also not changed. We do recognise how difficult it can be to secure a GP appointment however as explained above we simply do not have the resources or capacity to increase our appointment availability. It is disappointing to read you found our receptionists to be rude and unprofessional, this is not something we have been made aware of previously and as such all staff have been circulated the comments from your review in order that lessons can be learned and additional training arranged where it is deemed necessary. All staff at The Legh Surgery work tirelessly for the good of our patients to ensure they receive a high level of care, compassion and consideration in a safe environment, we are very sorry you did not experience this level of care when you contacted the surgery recently for which we apologise most profusely. May we take this opportunity to wish you and those around you a very Happy and Healthy Festive Period, The Leigh Surgery closes at 6.30pm on Tuesday 24th December and re-opens on Friday 27th December at 8am (for telephone appointments) Yours Sincerely Dr Pankaj & Dr Marina Gupta

Since being taken over the surgery has got a lot better. Can get an appointment now and every doctor I’ve spoke to actually takes the time to listen properly and is efficient in the way they have dealt with my issues/ailments.

Start calling at 8 am, get through at 8-15 only to be told no appointments, and if you need to see a doctor call 111…

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for "The Leigh Surgery", we are sorry you have been unable to obtain an appointment to see a Doctor. The demand for an appointment currently far outweighs our availability, this is a nationwide problem affecting all GP surgeries. We offer same day appointments and pre-bookable advance appointments as well as a limited number of online appointments. If a patient considers their problem is so urgent it cannot wait we always encourage them to call "111" who provide urgent medical advice and guidance. Same day appointments are available to be booked from 8am via the telephone and 8.15am when the doors open. If your medical problem is not urgent we would always recommend a patient books an in advance appointment to ensure they have the security of a guaranteed appointment. We trust this explains our booking process. Kind Regards The Leigh Surgery

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for "The Leigh Surgery", we are sorry to read you have been unsuccessful in obtaining an appointment with the Doctor. We currently offer same day appointments for urgent problems (telephone and face to face) these must be booked by calling the surgery at 8am. We also offer face to face and telephone appointments which can be booked in advance for routine matters (we are currently booking approx 4 weeks ahead for these type of appointments). Unfortunately the demand for GP appointments currently far outweighs our capacity, this is a national problem affecting all GP surgeries not just "The Leigh Surgery". I trust this information is of use to you. Kind Regards The Leigh Surgery

New doctors, no appointments, have to keep ringing every day, can't get through, can't book in advance, face to face appointments weeks ahead ... you have to ask yourself, does anyone really care?

Dear Patient; Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for The Leigh Surgery, it is disappointing to read your comments so soon after the new Doctors have joined the practice. Our appointment booking system has not changed, patients are still able to make an appointment on the day or in advance, these can be made by attending the surgery in person, over the telephone or booking online. For a same day appointment we would recommend a patient calls once the telephone line is open at 8am. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate all requests for same day appointments due to the demand which currently far outweighs our capacity. We would recommend you sign up to the NHS App or Systmonline which will enable online booking facility. We would now like to take this opportunity to invite you to join The Leigh Surgery "Patient Participation Group", this is a forum for patients who want the surgery to work as well as it can for patients, Doctors & staff. Please contact reception for details of how you can join the group and when the next meeting will be held. All staff at The Leigh Surgery work tirelessly for the good of the practice and go above and beyond to ensure all patients receive a caring and compassionate service. Your feedback has been passed on to the Doctors for their review. Kind Regards The Leigh Surgery

Rated 5 stars out of 5
by ShH - Posted on 13 October 2023
Phoned many times from 8 a.m. got through at 8.20. Reception staff always very helpful ... Appointment same day at 11.55. First appointment with new doctor, nice introduction. Thorough review of my health issues, with my own thoughts and feeling taken into consideration. Examined, appropriate treatment and required tests arranged. Dr. to follow up services that may be of benefit to me. Very pleasant experience indeed ... A very professional approach / experience, one I know patients will value! Thank you to one and all, fro the excellent service available to us all.
