  1. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Clara Glanville - Posted on 06 December 2024

I used the econsultation and a Dr kindly got back to me with an appointment I couldn’t get to due to work, so I used the NHS App to re book and managed to get an appointment for the following morning. This was excellent service. Dr was very thorough and reassuring, listening to me describe my symptoms (there were a few!). She’s arranged for blood tests and supported me in finding the referral number for me to chase my hospital appointment. She’s very professional and caring. I had a similar interaction with Dr a few months back, who was equally professional and understanding. I also managed to book a physio appointment at the surgery for the same day. This surgery is absolutely fabulous, I’ve got 2 children one age 21 and another 12. If ever they have been needing to see a Dr urgently when younger, the surgery have always been able to accommodate this. They are also great at updating on the local community group to ensure patients know when issues are causing delays.

I have received a message (NHSnoReply) asking me to complete a Military Veteran Questionnaire, Please can you explain why this has been sent? This is a specific service. Why would a doctor or GP think this is relevant

Dear John, The practice is now a certified veteran friendly practice, and as such we are gathering all patient's veteran status so that we can better support those who have been in the military. This was advertised on our facebook pages and our website with the following message: Ireland Wood and Horsforth Medical Practice is now accredited as a veteran friendly GP practice, supporting the Armed Forces Covenant. In order to improve the medical care of our veteran patients and to determine which patients were or currently are veterans, we are going to be sending out a questionnaire via text message. Thank you and Kind Regards Freya Keith Practice Manager Ireland Wood and Horsforth Medical Practice

  4. Review titled Have a little compassion for the practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 22 November 2024

Came here to leave a review and I can't believe some of the things I've read. I work for the NHS and I think it's really sad that so many people have such little patience with a practice that has served our community so well for decades. I had a brilliant appointment this week with a GP who couldn't have been more helpful, I was seen quickly after having a call from the triage GP and given the medicine I needed to get better. I think most patients don't understand the pressure that GP practices and their staff are under, and it makes me really sad to see the receptionists being shouted at and belittled. Working in the NHS is really hard, and I for one would like the croft to know that I appreciate what you do. Thank you for everything you do for the patients in horsforth and I'm sorry so many people don't appreciate it. If the NHS goes down the pan and suddenly GP services become privatised, I imagine that patients will finally see what a great job you've all done for us. Thank you to the GP who spoke to me, make me a face to face appointment and then got me on the right treatment straight away! I am feeling much better! Extremely efficient service and a lovely practice. Thanks also to the receptionist who was extremely kind to me on the phone as I was quite upset when I first rang.

  5. Review titled Frustrating

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 October 2024

The receptionists at the Practice do not want to help patients, they do not provide solutions. The GP told me to make another appointment if the medication didn't resolve my chest infection - it returned as soon as antibiotics had finished. day 1. lengthy wait on the phone, no appointments left, told to try again tomorrow. no online appointments for at least 2 weeks. went in to the surgery to try and resolve - told the above. day 2. called again as above. told to try 111. Asked if a note could be left for the GP who asked me to make another appointment, to give me a repeat prescription, was told I need a Dr's appointment for the prescription. day 2. Called again, explained the above, told nothing they could do. Told to call 111. Went on the 111 app. the solution: make a Dr's appointment. day 2. went to pharmacist, told me I needed a Dr's appointment. day 3: repeat. only available option, book the only available online appointment for November, for a chest infection.

  6. Review titled Collecting hospital letter

Rated 1 star out of 5

by ALIREZA - Posted on 11 October 2024

The hospital sent a letter about my cancer treatment to my GP but didn't send a copy to me. I called the reception on Thursday to get a copy, and they said I had to request it online, the same as booking an appointment. Then the doctor should review it and provide me with a copy. This process is time-consuming for the doctors, me, and the reception for simply obtaining a copy of my own letter. I submitted the request online on Friday at 9 o'clock in the morning. The doctor then called me and asked why I wanted the letter, and she said it would be ready within half an hour. I arrived at the reception at 3 pm, but the receptionist couldn't find the letter and said it might take time to print. Then she said the doctor was with patients, and I would have to wait. As I'm writing this review, it’s 16.15, and I'm still waiting for one piece of paper. Is the doctor spending 1 hour and 15 minutes with one patient? Who is not doing their job properly? The hospital, for not sending a copy to me? The doctor, for forgetting to print and pass it to reception? Or the receptionist, who can't find the letter? Is people's time free to waste because of someone's mistake? Now, I’m at reception, and there are eight people waiting in the queue!!!

I am sorry to hear about your experience at the practice. If you would like to discuss this please contact me and I can look into what happened. I cannot comment on this process as I am unsure of the specific information you were requesting, and I do not know who was involved. I can however assure you that the practice team work extremely hard and do their best to meet the needs of our patients. The practice, as with all GP surgeries, is under huge pressures and the team never intentionally waste the time of a patient. If you would like to discuss this or would like me to investigate the incident, please contact the practice directly as I am unable to do so with the information provided in this review. Called in for a blood test as requested by the cardiac team at the LGI was told the first slot would be 8th October when I was unavailable ,next slot was 23 of October .I then had to go to Wharfedale hospital in Otley .where the procedure was carried out in a few minutes I cant say I was happy or impressed .There must be a better way than having people trail about for a simple thing as a a blood test .

Dear Mr Clark, I am sorry that you have had a negative experience at our practice. Unfortunately we have recently had some sickness within the team leading to a shortage of phlebotomy appointments. When this happens, the fastest way for patients to have a blood test is to be directed to Wharfedale where a walk in service is offered. Whilst we understand this can be frustrating for our patients, the pressures on GP surgeries are such that demand cannot always be met. Please be assured however, that the entire team works extremely hard to provide the best service we can. Kind Regards Mrs Freya Keith Practice Manager Ireland Wood and Horsforth Medical Practice

  8. Review titled Friendly practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Donna - Posted on 14 August 2024

I've had to contact the surgery via phone a few times recently. Each time the receptionists have been extremely friendly and helpful. I didn't feel rushed and they ensured my query was sorted. I've also attended the surgery for a nurse appointment. The surgery felt clean and welcoming. An all round positive experience.

  9. Review titled Excellent work on reception desk.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 July 2024

The person on the reception desk on Thursday afternoon was very patient, thorough and kind to people, and remained unflustered by how busy it was. They took personal responsibility for looking out for the email that one person in the queue was sending. (Thursday afternoon, 4th July).

  10. Review titled They Never let me down

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by laraine jones - Posted on 03 January 2024

Today at 16.30hrs i rang Newcroft surgery as i had been monitoring my high blood pressure and was Alarmed at the reading. I wanted to expedite my appointment and the lovely receptionist did just that by asking if i could come into the surgery at 16.50! so within 20 mins i was being seen by a Dr. I have had several serious problems in the past and every time i have been seen within hours and often sent to hospital straight away. Ive always found both the reception and back office staff very polite and helpful and the medical and nursing staff very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. As most surgeries these days it can be difficult to get through on the phone but if ive called in and ive needed them theyve never let me down.
