    Absolutely disgusted with the attitude of the reception staff! Called Monday 27th Jan 10.30am. As I say to my 5 year old 'what to manners cost'. If you ask this receptionist, it should be her job, and not 'nothing'!

    I was recommended this gp surgery by my mum who is a doctors receptionist elsewhere. She has always praised the surgery, especially the very kind receptionists. We joined a few months back and have had multiple appointments due to my children being constantly unwell. Today, and the previous occasion, I got through to a receptionist (the same both times) who was just outright patronising. Speaking to me as if I was a child. All I wanted to do on both occasions was make an appointment for my little boys. She makes it very difficult, advising the only way I can do it is via Dr iq (I’ve never used this system). Upon her saying this, I did try to use Dr iq but never ever received an appointment. I called back later in the day and spoke with a different receptionist who advised that I should’ve called in the morning! When I raised this with the unhelpful receptionist, she suggested that those who are telling me to call in “aren’t doing their jobs properly”. She has now put a marker on my account to say I must use Dr iq instead of calling apparently. I do not appreciate this. It’s incredibly unhelpful behaviour. Even when I’d mentioned to the lady that 111 had advised my son needed to be seen within a timescale that meant first thing this morning, and that’s why Id called (they advised me to call!) - she replied - “well they don’t know our processes and you need to use Dr iq” and “well I don’t have anything for you first thing this morning!”. My call was at 8:10am!! So all morning appointments must have been given out within 10 minutes…! I have never had to use this system before and to be honest, I really haven’t appreciated the manner or tone I have been spoken to now on both occasions. It’s as if I’m an inconvenience to her. When I asked her if I could just please make an appointment as I needed to do the school run - she replied “yes you can. On Dr iq”. Why so unhelpful!!! Whilst the situation itself sounds petty, it was more the attitude and manner in which I was spoken to. It was very much a “so what” and “not my problem” huffing and puffing attitude. At the end of the day, I’m just trying to make an appointment for my children. We all have enough on our plate, no body needs the patronising and condescending behaviour. I think the lady in question should be spoken to about her customer service as to be honest, on both occasions, it’s just been rude, blunt, and not good enough.

    Myself and my family have been registered with The Practice Hawkwell Surgery (part of Leecon Way Practice) for a number of years now. During that time we have only ever received excellent and speedy service from Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists and Reception/Administration staff. This morning I logged onto the linked Dr Iq app with a medication question, and within 20 mins I had received a call back and was issued a telephone appointment to discuss same day. The staff always have time for their patients and are polite, kind, welcoming and warm. We are incredibly lucky to have this surgery so close by.

    I phoned today to make an appointment for my daughter. The very nice receptionist booked a telephone appointment with a nurse practitioner for my daughter at 5.45pm. At 2.30pm I called the surgery again as I wanted to check that it was a telephone appointment and not a face to face appointment. Another nice receptionist confirmed that my daughters telephone appointment was definitely booked in with a nurse practitioner at 5.45 pm. My daughter then received a phone call from either a doctor or nurse practitioner at 3.11pm. She was in a meeting at work and had to excuse herself from the meeting, so she could ring the surgery back. She was then told that she wouldn’t have been given an appointment at 17.45 as the nurses do not work that late! and she would have to rebook next week. Very strange that two different receptionists confirmed that my daughter’s appointment was for 17.45, when clearly that wasn’t the case. It’s difficult enough for my daughter to get an appointment when the surgery is open. Which is why I was helping her. Very disappointed with this service.
